Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: Welcome, friends and adventurers to another episode of Dungeons and Blaggards. I am the dungeon Master, Robulon. Joining me in no particular order are the players.
Eric!
[00:00:16] Speaker B: I'm Eric and I'm playing Dr. Zozo Brightfeather. She is a level nine Aarakocra artificer potionsmith.
Brandon!
[00:00:25] Speaker B: I'm Ekurook Punschley. Level nine blood hunter, half orc.
Caleb!
[00:00:32] Speaker B: I'm a level nine warforged barbarian: Kaitoa Tata.
Braeden!
[00:00:40] Speaker C: Hey, I'm Braeden. I'm playing half elf, Beleg Dygar, Level 9 hexblade warlock.
Tomo!
[00:00:50] Speaker B: Hey, I'm playing Steve Tehuman. I am a Gloomstalker Ranger level five, Battle Master Fighter, level three. And I have just a little schmeck of rogue. And I have an Owl.
Vale!
[00:01:06] Speaker B: I am playing Johawk the Gnoll, a champion fighter 4, Bear totem barbarian five.
[00:01:20] Speaker A: Previously on Dungeons and Blaggards
As Dr. Zozo performs arcane surgery and partial arm swaps of Kaitoa and Beleg, the half elf does a bump of redfrog and slips into a delirious stupor - transported in his mind back to the Feywild. Steve summons Stolas into the floor above, whence he discovers there is a smaller gel cube residing there in the darkened floor. And this cube has the severed arms within.
The guillotine like trap door is attacked and eventually destroyed by the party, and Rook dispatches both his unseen servant and mage hand to the darkened floor above to retrieve said arms, while the Gnoll takes potshots with their bow. Soon Beleg and Kaitoa are made whole... but different.
The owl artificer using all the materials at her disposal, the party is alerted by the construct, looking out through the seemingly unbreakable windows to a meeting of what appears to be wizards and pupils or apprentices far below at the noontime balcony room in the opposite tower. Rook, unable to resist, tests the strength of the windows with a deafeningly loud strike from his long sword.
Then the smaller cube, dubbed Nube by the party, is coaxed back down through these five floors, finally rejoining with Rube, who immediately lunges towards the party in aggression. Gradually, however, as the party makes their various actions, communication and appeasal, except for the Gnoll, who is actually changing two levels above, and Steve, who launches three spikes at it, the aggression is lessened, culminating in the action of Dr. Zozo Brightfeather, who returns the rod to Rube. And now the rod spins. And also in that moment, the ominous and repeated tapping sound from all around the party.
And you see now the rod spinning wildly.
And now, just now the rod seems to start to slow down, and yeah, top of the order Steve.
Spin the bottle.
[00:03:52] Speaker D: Rube's gonna make out with someone.
[00:03:55] Speaker F: Well, I'm trying to gauge like the. So the. The aggression levels of this cube have now dropped off.
By my nature. I don't want to fight this thing if we don't have to. I think there. There's.
It knows more about this area than we do, so I think there's use to it.
[00:04:14] Speaker A: Steve, as your internal monologue rages on, what are you doing?
[00:04:19] Speaker F: I'm waiting for it to make an action.
[00:04:21] Speaker A: Do you want to hold your action?
[00:04:24] Speaker B: Okay, yeah, yeah.
[00:04:25] Speaker F: I want to read. I want to read its motives if I can.
Trying to use what I usually use with beasts.
[00:04:31] Speaker A: Okay, well, I will give you a perception roll with advantage then, as at least you notice something.
[00:04:39] Speaker F: Okay, Rolling on advantage. I rolled a natural 20.
That's plus 10 for perception.
[00:04:48] Speaker A: Two things your keen hearing does pick up. Those taps and pings coming now from seemingly also the party's level. In the dark here, you can hear something outside.
And then you also see that rod now almost come to a complete halt with the end of your move, Steve. Although when you want to act again, we will pick you up for your full action.
[00:05:16] Speaker G: Okay.
[00:05:17] Speaker A: Number two in initiative, I believe, is Beleg, Kaitoa on deck. Johawk, next on deck.
Beleg, you are muted.
[00:05:27] Speaker E: Testing, testing. One, two, three.
[00:05:31] Speaker B: Classic.
[00:05:32] Speaker D: This is a test.
[00:05:35] Speaker B: Of your emergency muting system.
[00:05:41] Speaker A: Beleg is our spokesperson.
[00:05:45] Speaker E: Yes, I am.
Are your decibel levels too high?
Do you need to be spontaneously muted? Let me tell you.
Fuck, I have no idea.
[00:05:57] Speaker B: Right.
[00:05:58] Speaker E: Rod is spinning like crazy, eh?
[00:06:01] Speaker B: I think it came to a stop.
[00:06:03] Speaker F: It's come to a stop.
[00:06:03] Speaker E: Oh, it has. It has come to a stop right.
[00:06:06] Speaker A: In the middle of the cube. Also, you deposited that lantern in there, didn't you?
[00:06:11] Speaker F: Yeah
[00:06:14] Speaker B: Right?
[00:06:14] Speaker D: We threw everything at it.
[00:06:16] Speaker E: Yeah, yeah, I chucked the lantern back in. How does that look?
Is it all nice and chummy in there again?
Both right to the center as well, right?
[00:06:24] Speaker G: Yes.
[00:06:25] Speaker A: Both of these items are now rather close together. And actually you now you see bubbles sort of forming around.
And there seems to be a shape now forming inside the cube and around those items. As you know, Beleg. You know, you look on. Would you roll anything? Would you do anything? Last time you communicated it via scroll, it gobbled it up.
[00:06:48] Speaker E: Yeah, seems like we're heading in the right direction. Just throwing shit into it.
But I don't really have anything else to say to it right now. What's the shape that's forming in the bubbles?
[00:07:02] Speaker A: Let's see. It looks like a huge protrusion that is now starting to form in the cube. It looks like a huge maybe fist that's about to punch out.
[00:07:15] Speaker E: Oh, oh.
Can I take the.
What is it? Defend action or.
[00:07:24] Speaker A: Yeah, you can take sort of hold your action and I guess same as Steve, you will act when you will act.
[00:07:33] Speaker E: Okay.
And I just keep watching.
[00:07:37] Speaker A: Okay. I would have you I guess roll one skill of your choice just simply as a bonus sort of action as you kind of forfeit your turn.
[00:07:47] Speaker E: Insight.
[00:07:48] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:07:50] Speaker E: That's a 16 plus 5. So a 21 on insight.
[00:07:53] Speaker G: Trying to.
[00:07:54] Speaker E: Trying to read Rube's mood.
[00:07:59] Speaker A: You sense a concentration.
You get the same feeling when you look at another caster or when you think about yourself concentrating on a spell.
[00:08:13] Speaker E: Do I get any idea if it's a malicious spell?
[00:08:17] Speaker A: What did you roll there?
[00:08:19] Speaker E: 21?
[00:08:21] Speaker A: You sense a massively powerful spell being brewed.
[00:08:28] Speaker E: Cool boys. Brace for a big one.
[00:08:33] Speaker A: Okay, Kaitoa, you are up.
[00:08:39] Speaker D: I wish I had the Krizbomb at this point.
[00:08:44] Speaker E: You can't always wish you had the Krizbomb to solve your problems.
[00:08:48] Speaker A: I know.
[00:08:49] Speaker D: You sound like Dr. Phil of like you can't.
[00:08:53] Speaker F: You're.
[00:08:54] Speaker D: No, you can't always rely on your Krizbomb.
I just wanted to freeze
[00:09:01] Speaker E: The Krizbomb won't bring back your dad.
I'm sorry.
[00:09:07] Speaker D: I just like Dr. Phil is just trying to.
[00:09:10] Speaker A: Dr. Phil lecturing about like now there's only one Krizbomb.
[00:09:16] Speaker D: Now is the Krizbomb gone, or are you just not letting it go?
I don't want your lies.
Yeah.
Fuck.
Gelatinous cubes. If. Does anyone know about this? Of like I imagine it's acidic.
[00:09:40] Speaker B: It was digesting things.
[00:09:42] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:09:46] Speaker B: I don't know that Rube is the biggest threat right now because Steve heard something in else in the room with us.
[00:09:51] Speaker D: Yeah, he might be bracing for something coming in to like shock the room. And he's bracing for a like protection.
[00:10:03] Speaker G: Yeah.
[00:10:04] Speaker F: The pinging is coming closer.
[00:10:06] Speaker G: Yeah.
[00:10:08] Speaker D: Should we dive into Rube?
[00:10:13] Speaker F: Jump into Rube for safety.
[00:10:18] Speaker A: Okay. Kaitoa, can you roll a perception?
[00:10:21] Speaker D: Yeah, I'd love to.
Oh, it's terrible.
It's an eight.
[00:10:29] Speaker A: As you joke about going through Rube, perhaps the party collectively does wonder one thing about this floor.
[00:10:41] Speaker B: Where's the trap door?
[00:10:43] Speaker D: I'm gonna use my artist as to write on a piece of paper and send a message in a room. A Rube asking, what's going on?
[00:10:51] Speaker A: Okay. You take in your ads and did you hear what Dr. Zozo said?
[00:10:55] Speaker D: Yeah. And then my second action, I'm going to use this new crossbow to fire. Like, I'm going to look around the room and find an area that's not looking like it's going to open or close.
And I'm going to shoot my little grappling hook with my rope on it, and I'm just going to hold on.
[00:11:16] Speaker B: To this piece of rope.
[00:11:19] Speaker A: To brace for something.
[00:11:21] Speaker D: Yeah, I. I expect that I'm gonna either be sucked out of the room, fall, or something is gonna come through the room.
[00:11:29] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:11:29] Speaker D: So I'm anchoring myself.
[00:11:31] Speaker A: First things first. Okay. Grappling hook onto. Well, the only thing that would be the upper hatch. Okay. That would just be a dexterity roll. So roll dexterity or.
[00:11:41] Speaker D: Actually, I don't want to go on the hatch, though. I want to go on, like, the wall.
[00:11:46] Speaker A: Well, every sort of. Every part of this room. Of course. It's like a petri dish, right? No corners, smooth angles along the edges. The only things there are is the party Rube and the open hatch.
[00:11:59] Speaker G: Okay.
[00:12:00] Speaker D: Yeah. Then I guess the top of the hatch. Yeah.
[00:12:03] Speaker A: Okay.
Roll on decks and hopefully 17. Perfect. Hopefully your move is smooth. And you write that note, eject it into Rube, and it goes and goes into Rube, and it is immediately dissolved and some popping begins to happen. And then you are braced and you have a good purchase on that hatch.
[00:12:28] Speaker D: Like, how do I let you know what I wrote to Rube?
[00:12:32] Speaker A: You said, what's happening?
Yeah, it starts popping, and of course, you do hear and you are able to sort of translate that. Kaitoa, if there's nothing else in your move, I would say then, yeah, probably the last thing you hear then is the popping of Rube saying, attack.
[00:12:56] Speaker B: Okay.
All right.
[00:12:59] Speaker D: I convey that to the party.
Rube's response.
Hey, guys, I asked Rube what was happening. He's saying just all he responded with was attacking.
Brace yourselves, I imagine.
[00:13:14] Speaker A: Okay, party of six, minus one, let's go to the minus one. Joe Hawk, you are two floors up. And that tapping rests on your mind as it persists. What are you doing? And, you know, given that you didn't go all the way down, I think you're, like, one tenth of the way into your heavy arbor.
[00:13:34] Speaker G: I think I just, like, got my pants on, and that's probably it.
Do I still count as unarmored? I'm just asking because I like my 15ac. I don't want it to drop because I have very little armor on.
[00:13:47] Speaker A: If you want to. If you want to spend another action here trying to get one more piece on. Yeah, sure.
[00:13:55] Speaker G: I think I'm just gonna pick up the mall next to me.
I'm going to look into the trapdoor.
Darkvision C in that room.
[00:14:06] Speaker A: So you're looking down to the room below you.
[00:14:09] Speaker G: Yeah. And I'm kind of like on. I'm kind of like prone and just looking my head.
[00:14:14] Speaker A: Got it.
[00:14:15] Speaker G: So that way I can get the entire situation upside down.
[00:14:19] Speaker A: Peekaboo. Can you roll a stealth, then quick stealth?
[00:14:22] Speaker G: I'm good at that.
15.
[00:14:26] Speaker A: You hear another one of those pings, and a small flying creature seems to have pinged off one of the windows.
[00:14:38] Speaker G: Outside or inside the window?
[00:14:40] Speaker A: Outside.
And then you hear another one.
And this room that is bathed in sunlight here has six windows, and they seem to be. Yeah, you'd say a small.
Definitely look like a small winged creature.
[00:14:57] Speaker D: Hey, guys, there might be, like, a sonar thing happening. And it's like using pings to tell.
[00:15:04] Speaker F: Where we all are that it's trying to get through the window.
[00:15:09] Speaker B: It's all those birds from Polb.
[00:15:11] Speaker D: They followed us.
[00:15:11] Speaker B: They just finally got here.
[00:15:12] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
[00:15:14] Speaker G: Oh, I only see two of these creatures.
[00:15:17] Speaker A: Yes. In that moment, you. You saw two.
Couldn't have been the same creature because they hit sort of at different sides of the tower.
[00:15:26] Speaker F: They look armed.
[00:15:28] Speaker A: Did they look armed in your one little glance there? I guess. Roll perception.
[00:15:33] Speaker E: Oh, do they look like gargoyles?
[00:15:35] Speaker B: Yeah, I bet they do.
[00:15:37] Speaker A: Well, no, they did not look armed. In fact. Yeah, this looked like a small winged, you would say stone skinned creature in the form of an animal. So it was not armed.
[00:15:53] Speaker E: It's the goat.
[00:15:55] Speaker G: We got the noise.
[00:15:57] Speaker A: Not hostile.
[00:16:00] Speaker G: But Grizt is watching us, I'm sure.
[00:16:03] Speaker A: Okay, party. You hear the booming voice of the gnoll, who is actually conducting a little bit of recon there? Boy, three people said something all at once, though. I think it was all very relevant.
[00:16:17] Speaker F: Through the window.
[00:16:19] Speaker G: After I do that, I'm gonna duck.
[00:16:21] Speaker F: Okay.
[00:16:21] Speaker G: Trapdoor, so that way they can't see me.
[00:16:23] Speaker F: Okay, you don't. So, Rob, we're down a level from. From the knoll.
[00:16:28] Speaker C: Correct.
[00:16:29] Speaker D: Two levels.
[00:16:30] Speaker A: Correct.
Rube's level. Level 44, where the sunlight is.
Level 45.
Another no window level. Windows level. Level 46 is where gnoll is. And then you have another level above knoll sunlight. Another level above that dark one where the guillotine trapdoor was destroyed. And yeah, if there's nothing else in. Your move, Johawk.
[00:16:56] Speaker G: That's it.
[00:16:57] Speaker A: On to Mr.
Rook.
[00:17:02] Speaker C: I am going to take note of Kaitoa's bracing and Rube's bracing. And I'm gonna actually pull up my yellow shield embrace.
Did I hear clearly?
I'm gonna yell back to Joe Hawkins. I didn't hear you clearly on what.
[00:17:23] Speaker A: You were relaying to the group Gargoyles outside the windows.
[00:17:30] Speaker E: That's pretty clear.
[00:17:32] Speaker C: Well, now I hear it.
[00:17:35] Speaker E: Ah, yes. There it is.
[00:17:37] Speaker C: Yeah. Yes. Yes.
[00:17:38] Speaker F: Gurgles loud and clear.
[00:17:41] Speaker C: So I'm gonna pull up my yellow shield and my Bergen's blade and be ready to fight.
[00:17:52] Speaker A: Okay, Half Orc, as you stand at the ready and you hear Johawk's voice again, confirm there has now not been any pinging or rapping or tapping at the windows or otherwise in the last 30 seconds or so. All is getting ominously quiet. Anything else in your move, Rook? Zozo, you're on deck. Then Stolas and then Rube. And maybe something else.
[00:18:21] Speaker D: Subtle.
[00:18:26] Speaker A: No, no.
[00:18:27] Speaker C: I'll just stand at the ready.
[00:18:31] Speaker D: Robin, can I jump in with a bonus action?
[00:18:33] Speaker A: At the moment, anybody can use any of their pretty much full action. But I would say most people you've experienced suspended all of your. Unless you're gonna do some grand move. Everybody has their big action and we are just waiting. So.
[00:18:47] Speaker D: Enrages.
[00:18:48] Speaker A: Okay. Yep. No. Fair enough. Easy.
[00:18:50] Speaker G: Yeah.
[00:18:52] Speaker A: And still preserving initiative. Here's Zozo. You're up.
[00:18:58] Speaker D: I'm gonna look around the room.
[00:18:59] Speaker B: Use my dark vision looking for threats. And the trapdoor down.
[00:19:06] Speaker A: Okay. You have your eyes on the prize. And roll perception 18.
The trapdoor is located directly beneath Rube.
[00:19:18] Speaker C: Of course.
Tell Rube to get out of the way.
Move it, Rube.
[00:19:24] Speaker D: I don't think Rube's concerned about much.
[00:19:27] Speaker E: We haven't seen this trapdoor open yet, have we?
[00:19:31] Speaker A: No.
[00:19:32] Speaker B: I think it's probably been under Rube the whole time.
[00:19:35] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:19:36] Speaker G: No.
[00:19:38] Speaker B: So was that all I saw was there? Did I see anything else in the room with us?
[00:19:42] Speaker A: Well, you now see the rod and the candelabra begin to push out towards the party in an appendage of goo. But no Dr. Zozo, other than the trapdoor, Rube. There's a couple of chicken bones right? There's still a little gravy on the floor, but that is about it.
[00:20:08] Speaker E: Oh, shit. Is he giving us his stuff back?
[00:20:12] Speaker A: Who can say?
What you up to, Dr. Zozo?
[00:20:16] Speaker B: I think I'm going to say to Rube, if you get us through this. We'll help you find your ring.
[00:20:26] Speaker A: Right. You address Rube directly then.
[00:20:29] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:20:30] Speaker A: Okay.
And anything else in your move?
There is a popping, but now it seems to not be any sort of communication. The popping is from huge bubbles now forming around the objects.
[00:20:45] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:20:46] Speaker B: Yeah, that's all I'm gonna do.
[00:20:48] Speaker D: What is. Are the. The bubbles around the objects bursting or are they just.
[00:20:54] Speaker A: They appear to be almost ready to eject out. And Stolas is up and then Rube.
[00:21:02] Speaker D: What the fuck is going on?
[00:21:07] Speaker E: Telling you he's giving us the stuff back. He wants us to have it.
[00:21:12] Speaker B: Yeah, it might be.
[00:21:13] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:21:14] Speaker E: Wishful thinking.
[00:21:16] Speaker B: I wonder. He's going to use them all.
[00:21:18] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
Steve, the owl, of course, had a nice little poop and cube and now what are they doing?
[00:21:29] Speaker F: The owl?
Well, I think Steve. Steve's in the room with Rube, so I think what the owl is doing is flying up to a room that has the.
The windows. And I'd like to. Like to have him suss it out so Steve can get a. Get a view as well.
[00:21:49] Speaker A: Okay. Fly through the hatch.
[00:21:50] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:21:53] Speaker A: And Stolas would be now up in the sunlit level.
There is nothing other than still the one little undestroyed construct that dutifully just sits there motionless. There's nothing at the windows and none of that rapping or tapping.
[00:22:10] Speaker F: And so the.
The windows themselves weren't damaged, they were just correct.
[00:22:17] Speaker A: Just on passive perception. All the windows are intact.
Yeah.
[00:22:22] Speaker F: So that wasn't necessarily the. The motive then.
[00:22:25] Speaker G: They wanted to get in. They probably would have taken.
[00:22:28] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:22:28] Speaker G: Window.
[00:22:29] Speaker D: Yeah, they would have gotten in for sure.
[00:22:32] Speaker E: Rook didn't break it. He just like hit it and it went.
[00:22:37] Speaker C: Yeah, I didn't break it.
[00:22:38] Speaker E: It is an unbreakable window.
[00:22:40] Speaker D: I have a feeling like they were just trying to see what's in here.
[00:22:45] Speaker A: Seemingly unbreakable.
Right.
Anything else in Stolas move? Are they holding? Are they holding position up there? What are they doing?
[00:22:56] Speaker F: I sent him up to get a look at the windows.
[00:23:00] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:23:01] Speaker A: Stolas, anything else?
[00:23:03] Speaker C: Nope.
[00:23:03] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:23:04] Speaker F: No, that's. I mean, that's. He's just got. He just gathered the information.
[00:23:08] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:23:09] Speaker F: For that Steve can't see.
[00:23:11] Speaker C: Okay, can I bring my unseen servant back? And I want him to try and pull the candelabra and rod from Rube.
[00:23:19] Speaker A: Okay. As you think about that rook, he will not need to, because as Rube ejects both objects towards the party in a huge sploosh, both items clatter to the ground
At Beleg's feet!
[00:23:44] Speaker A: And then Rube begins to solidify.
And now that bioluminescence sort of goes out and now it's very dark in the room. And that is pretty much Rube concluding their movement.
Steve, you're at the top of the order.
[00:24:03] Speaker F: So nothing's going on. The pecking is stopped, the cube is hardening. He's kicked out all this stuff and there's a trapdoor underneath him.
[00:24:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Are you seeing through your eyes or Stolas eyes? Sort of.
[00:24:20] Speaker F: At that moment, Stolas was just giving me the information for his turn.
[00:24:24] Speaker A: I see.
And then what would he communicate to Steve at the beginning of his turn? If all of a sudden somebody had transported directly into that room?
Oh.
[00:24:45] Speaker F: Well, I guess that would be the thing that he sees.
And it's the room right above.
Incoming.
[00:24:56] Speaker A: Okay, shout incoming. And Stolas immediately transmits to you. As they probably duck away, it appears something has dimension doored into this floor and left.
But they did not leave the floor empty.
So what looked like some type of caster has just dimension doored in, dropped somebody off and is gone. And Stolas actually flutters down about 2ft below the hatch.
[00:25:34] Speaker F: So there's something in there. They've left something.
I was worried they took something that we didn't see.
[00:25:44] Speaker B: They dropped something off something.
[00:25:46] Speaker F: Yeah, yeah, yeah, they left something.
[00:25:48] Speaker G: There is a window in the room. I was about to say. That's scary. If they didn't have line of sight to it, they could just teleport anywhere.
[00:25:56] Speaker E: Buddy, that's dimension door, man. If you can.
[00:26:00] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah.
[00:26:00] Speaker E: If you can envision it, you can basically just go there.
[00:26:03] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:26:04] Speaker F: Nowhere is safe.
[00:26:08] Speaker B: Inside room.
How do you envision the room when they're all identical though?
[00:26:12] Speaker F: It's like.
[00:26:13] Speaker B: Oh, it's a round room with six windows.
[00:26:15] Speaker E: You know where the trap door is.
[00:26:17] Speaker A: Oh yeah.
[00:26:19] Speaker D: All right, we're fucked.
[00:26:23] Speaker B: Want to just take a peek up there, Steve?
[00:26:29] Speaker F: I see what happens when you, when you like poke these portholes.
[00:26:34] Speaker B: Let's see if my head through first.
[00:26:39] Speaker A: So Steve, have you, have you just asked Stolas what it is?
[00:26:46] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:26:47] Speaker A: Okay, Stolas transmits to you. There is a large, what appears to be iron alloy gargoyle with huge wings, massive claws and what looks like a ten foot tail.
And they are standing there motionless where they have been deposited.
[00:27:11] Speaker D: A ten foot tail and I assume a ten to fifteen foot beam.
[00:27:17] Speaker B: All right.
[00:27:17] Speaker A: The size, yeah. Yes.
[00:27:22] Speaker F: I pull out a healing potion that I have in my pocket and offer it to anyone. They would need one of these.
[00:27:29] Speaker E: Holy shit.
[00:27:30] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:27:30] Speaker F: Please.
[00:27:34] Speaker A: Okay. That is a minor action. Just to toss that to whoever said they need a healing popo.
[00:27:39] Speaker F: And then I. I will also. Steve will also mention this.
[00:27:43] Speaker A: Okay, Steve, you're still top of the order.
[00:27:46] Speaker F: Big metal gargoyle. We're probably gonna need to.
[00:27:50] Speaker G: Yeah.
[00:27:50] Speaker F: To do something against this. So you're gonna need these. You're gonna need these ahead of time if you're hurting.
[00:27:58] Speaker E: That's a yes. That like says yes.
[00:28:01] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:28:01] Speaker F: Johawk says yes as well.
[00:28:05] Speaker A: Beleg roll 2d4 plus 2.
[00:28:09] Speaker F: Is Johawk within range of me being able to do the healing spirit trick?
[00:28:15] Speaker A: Well, you can hear him. So as long as your little healing kodamas are able to sort of manifest where you want them to be and they don't have to kind of travel through anywhere and they just kind of appear.
[00:28:28] Speaker G: Sure.
[00:28:29] Speaker F: Yeah. I create a five foot cube that I can see within range. So I have to be able to see it.
[00:28:38] Speaker D: Can I jump inside that cube?
[00:28:40] Speaker C: Yeah. Rook's gonna jump in there too.
[00:28:43] Speaker F: Yes. Just do a. Do like a little conga line. Team huddle.
[00:28:49] Speaker D: This is our like pre game like chant where everyone gets together like pre game huddle. Like.
[00:28:54] Speaker B: Well, can I throw some fortifying fumes into the huddle?
[00:28:58] Speaker D: Life's just gonna pass you by.
[00:28:59] Speaker A: In fact, I will allow you guys all to essentially in order though. If you wanna spend an entire round buffing and prepping, Stolas can confirm. And Johawk, if you wanna confirm again as you sneak a peek there, totally quiet and motionless. So if you would like to spend an entire round buffing, just tell me and we'll go through it in order quickly.
[00:29:23] Speaker E: Yes.
[00:29:25] Speaker A: This is what the wizards do. Let's do it, guys. So Steve, what would you do? You've obviously got lots of people who want the good good.
[00:29:32] Speaker F: I will put the. Put it down in what I assume is a safe place and let everyone else know. The little healing guys right here. And I guess they would be like. Would they be like in this tower, little mechanical or like metallic elementals?
[00:29:54] Speaker A: You see now these little spiritual kodamas, they seem they're battle kodamas again and they're armed with tiny brass weaponry.
[00:30:03] Speaker F: All right, you guys know the deal. They're here to help.
[00:30:08] Speaker A: Okay, Beleg you are up the rod. The candelabra still there and a little bit of green sploosh.
[00:30:20] Speaker E: I'd love to pick up the candelabra again because I was growing quite.
I liked it. I wanted to attune with it.
[00:30:28] Speaker A: As you grab that candelabra, you Remember, this acts as four spell slots.
[00:30:37] Speaker G: Okay.
[00:30:38] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:30:39] Speaker E: I would love to use like a bonus action to drink a healing potion that Steve offered. I would love to walk through the kodamas. I want.
I want as much hit points as humanly possible.
[00:30:51] Speaker A: You want to do it all? Okay, so Steve, can you just advise us, how much does a person get this round if they step into the Kodama healing circle?
[00:30:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:30:59] Speaker F: On your turn, you can walk in, you get a D6.
And it lasts for 10. 10 of those turns?
[00:31:07] Speaker A: If we're getting one D6 healing.
[00:31:11] Speaker E: And then I'll roll it.
[00:31:13] Speaker A: Popping the cork on a healing potion is 2D4 plus 2.
[00:31:18] Speaker E: 2D4 plus 2.
[00:31:20] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:31:22] Speaker E: All right, so that's four hit points from Kodamas and nine hit points from potion.
Okay.
[00:31:36] Speaker A: Okay. So, Kaitoa, you're juicing. You're juicing. You've raged. Anything else?
[00:31:43] Speaker D: I'm gonna shoot another message into Rube the rubinator. Yeah, and just ask, what are we against?
Like, what's the weakness?
[00:31:56] Speaker A: What's the weakness? Okay. And then it actually spits something back at you. It spits back that the weakness Towers broach.
[00:32:07] Speaker D: Oh, okay.
So I now have my Twin Towers brooch again.
[00:32:14] Speaker A: And in this towers, Kaitoa, you know, you realize it is both returning your brooch and answering your question.
[00:32:26] Speaker D: I get it.
Message received, Rube.
[00:32:34] Speaker A: All right, Johawk, you hear the machinations of the party below.
[00:32:40] Speaker G: I'm going to peer back down because I don't think I've noticed this thing yet.
[00:32:46] Speaker A: Okay, roll that Stealth 1212.
The gargoyle immediately animates and looks directly at your little upside down ears.
[00:33:01] Speaker G: Oh, and then I'm gonna.
I'm gonna stand up and I'm going to take the dodge action.
[00:33:11] Speaker A: Okay. And you would have just had time to see this creature draw what looked like a massive. A ridiculously large stone.
Stone sword.
[00:33:27] Speaker F: AIs, it's got a sword.
[00:33:28] Speaker G: And it's coming for me.
[00:33:33] Speaker E: Sounds terrible.
[00:33:37] Speaker B: You can take it.
[00:33:38] Speaker A: Okay, Johawk, taking the dodge action. Getting some arrangement.
[00:33:44] Speaker D: Try biting it.
[00:33:47] Speaker A: Rook, you are up. Zozo, you're on deck. And so, Rook, I guess the first thing I'd do is, you know, obviously as you thought about commanding your servant to grab the rod and such a lot has happened since then, but your servant still is at your disposal and is passing right in front of this.
[00:34:05] Speaker C: Huge metallic gargoyle as he's passing there. Can I have him search the room? See if there's anything around there that, yep, shows an advantage for us.
[00:34:23] Speaker A: Your servant is Going to diligently keep on stalking around this room and see if there may be a weak spot or something you can use. But at the moment, the open hatch door, this huge creature, six windows and that's it.
And now you are up, Rook, and. Yeah. Healing little kodamas. I don't know if you took advantage of those.
[00:34:47] Speaker C: I did.
So do I have to roll a D6 myself or is that.
[00:34:52] Speaker F: Oh, go wild.
Yeah, roll the D6.
Just a D6.
[00:34:57] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:34:57] Speaker D: All right.
[00:34:58] Speaker C: So five there and then.
So how.
[00:35:04] Speaker D: How many?
[00:35:05] Speaker C: I guess he's two stories above us, this gargoyle.
[00:35:09] Speaker A: Just one.
[00:35:10] Speaker C: One story, but one story. And he's between us and Johawk.
[00:35:17] Speaker A: Frighteningly correct.
[00:35:19] Speaker F: Okay.
[00:35:20] Speaker C: Is there anything in the room from the unseen servant? I guess up there that traces of whoever dropped off this gargoyle. Like, did he leave anything else? Did he take anything out of the room?
[00:35:37] Speaker A: Nothing. Except for a reverse bampf.
[00:35:41] Speaker C: What the heck's a reverse Bampf?
[00:35:43] Speaker A: Well, you know, when they Bampf in. Bampf!
And all your unseen servant might have seen was after the, atfter the drop off this cloaked figure.
Clearly a caster, you might say.
Just Bampf. Right out of there.
[00:36:01] Speaker E: Bampf.
[00:36:02] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:36:03] Speaker A: Beleg knows what that's about. He's bampfed before.
[00:36:05] Speaker E: Oh yeah. I know all about the dimension door. Kaitoa has too, but he was unconscious.
[00:36:11] Speaker C: That's true.
[00:36:12] Speaker D: I bumpfed.
[00:36:14] Speaker A: Oh no. You took Kaitoa once when he was totally conscious. From the observatory tower to the secret tunnel under Hewgill Castle.
[00:36:20] Speaker E: Oh, true.
[00:36:26] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm gonna.
[00:36:27] Speaker B: I've been known to bampf.
[00:36:29] Speaker C: I'm gonna look at the group and just ask.
Are we going up there or are we staying down here waiting for him?
[00:36:36] Speaker E: Well, I remember the last time we had this conversation.
[00:36:40] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:36:41] Speaker B: I mean, he's going after Johawk right now.
Okay.
[00:36:46] Speaker D: The big thing we should think about is like it's a stone metal golem.
[00:36:54] Speaker A: Or gargoyle.
[00:36:55] Speaker D: I don't know. What is he gonna be prone to.
[00:36:58] Speaker B: As far as attack?
[00:37:00] Speaker E: I can cast a fifth level shatter.
[00:37:03] Speaker D: If we could freeze him or slows movement, that would help.
[00:37:08] Speaker E: No, Nobody wants a shatter?
[00:37:10] Speaker A: Oh, I like shatter.
[00:37:12] Speaker E: Yeah, yeah.
[00:37:13] Speaker F: Everyone loves shatter.
[00:37:14] Speaker E: Little little 5D8.
[00:37:17] Speaker A: Rook's question hangs in the air. Are you going up now? And then Rook is. You know. As the party continues to offer their various.
Yeah. Things such as what would happen when combat starts. You. You are up.
[00:37:32] Speaker C: I'm gonna kind of stand pat for now, but I'm just gonna quickly change my sword to my voltaic machine.
That's all I wanted to do.
[00:37:44] Speaker A: Swapping for the voltaic. You still got the. The heater shield there? The shield mortale.
[00:37:51] Speaker C: Yes, sir.
[00:37:52] Speaker A: Lovely. Okay, still in the buffing phase down here. But there is a huge stomp right above your head, Dr. Zozo. And you are up. And that surely is the stomp of the creature of moving on the upper hatch where the gnoll is.
[00:38:09] Speaker B: Okay, I'm gonna pick up Rube's reactionary rod to start.
[00:38:15] Speaker D: Now.
[00:38:15] Speaker A: You did attune to this thing prior?
[00:38:18] Speaker G: Yep.
[00:38:19] Speaker A: Okay. You immediately become aware that a spell has been charged and stowed in the rod.
Oh, okay.
[00:38:30] Speaker B: And then I'm gonna do a fortifying fumes potion for everyone standing around here.
So that will be.
[00:38:38] Speaker A: Oh, this is the purple Vicks, Good stuff.
[00:38:41] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Dr Zozo vapo rub.
[00:38:45] Speaker B: Yeah. So Everybody within the 10 foot radius gets 11 temporary hit points.
[00:38:52] Speaker F: Magic water purple.
[00:38:53] Speaker A: Okay, look Johawk, if you. If you maybe sniff and waft like, you can tell there is some sweet combat enhancing fumes being brewed down there. And you're like. You are like two to three feet away.
[00:39:08] Speaker E: Hey Eric, we've got a little ball.
[00:39:10] Speaker B: Going on down here.
[00:39:12] Speaker E: Temp hit points are non stackable.
[00:39:14] Speaker F: Right?
[00:39:14] Speaker E: Because I still have nine from the first time you cast them. These new temporary hit points would just replace them. Right.
[00:39:22] Speaker F: The.
[00:39:23] Speaker B: So in addition to the the hit points, everybody gets 1d6 additional damage on their next melee attack and advantage on any constitution saving throws. And those last until the end of my next turn.
But I don't know if it says how long the temporary hit points.
[00:39:45] Speaker G: How many temporary hit points were they?
[00:39:47] Speaker B: 11.
[00:39:48] Speaker C: 11.
[00:39:49] Speaker D: 11.
[00:39:50] Speaker B: I mean. Yeah, that might include the hit points.
[00:39:56] Speaker E: Okay.
If you have temporary hit points and receive more of them, you decide whether to keep the ones you have or gain the new ones so they don't stack.
[00:40:04] Speaker G: Okay.
[00:40:04] Speaker E: Yeah, but the 11 is better than the 9. Anyways.
[00:40:07] Speaker A: Top up with the more fresher seems to be a good sort of general rule. Okay.
Okay.
[00:40:14] Speaker B: So yeah, everybody gets 11 hit points. 11 temporary hit points, D6 of additional damage on the next melee attack and advantage on the next constitution saving throw until the end of my next turn.
[00:40:25] Speaker E: Rob, I am going to burn that fourth level spell slot for some armor of Agathys.
[00:40:31] Speaker A: I knew you would, buddy. And frosty armor appears as you snap your finger. And in that same movement that the frosty armor appears on Beleg, the wonderful fortifying fumes.
Johawk, you said you could drop down and you certainly could. And if you did that, you would be standing only 10ft away. From this beast
[00:40:56] Speaker G: It's gonna bite me anyways. Might as well have some courage.
[00:41:01] Speaker A: In that case, I will. You know, they say courage unused withers. And in this case, I will give you the benefit of the fortifying fumes. As they waft just up and the party is right down there. You can look down at the hatch. None of them have actually come up. So, guys, now you hear a thump and it is Johawk who thuds down onto the floor above you and is now there, virtually toe to toe with this beast. And if you look up through your hatch, you could probably see both of these figures and Zozo. Anything else in your move?
[00:41:37] Speaker B: Can I tell what the spell on the rod is?
[00:41:41] Speaker A: It is a seventh level evocation that you have only heard about in fairy tales. And in fact, this spell appears in lots of children's stories in Baheru. Because it's so outlandish and so outrageous. Surely this spell couldn't possibly exist in reality. So it's often used in children's stories.
Eight multicolored rays. This is a prismatic spray.
[00:42:12] Speaker E: Oh, dope.
[00:42:14] Speaker D: Okay, he's got some spells all over this place.
[00:42:21] Speaker A: Talking about a spell that hits in a 60 foot cone to each creature. So, Zozo, you feel a almost unbelievable amount of power stored in this rod.
[00:42:34] Speaker B: I think it's good we didn't try to fight Rube.
[00:42:37] Speaker D: Rube's all about that Pride week.
Get that rainbow.
[00:42:48] Speaker A: That's funny.
[00:42:48] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah.
[00:42:49] Speaker F: Oh, fuck, that's funny. Okay, so we'll time it out.
[00:42:52] Speaker A: Rainbow spread.
Zozo, you got the rod, you've identified the spell. The other two slots are empty. So one spell has been lodged into this rod.
[00:43:05] Speaker D: Holy. Okay, did anyone look at this spell? Insane.
[00:43:12] Speaker A: This is. This is one of these spells that I. That I would consider to be.
[00:43:17] Speaker D: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue. Yeah, it's fucked up insane, dude.
[00:43:21] Speaker A: Very Jack Vance.
[00:43:25] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:43:26] Speaker G: Holy shit.
[00:43:27] Speaker C: In a moment.
[00:43:28] Speaker A: You have, I guess, no nothing left in your move, my friend.
[00:43:32] Speaker B: No.
[00:43:32] Speaker G: Yeah.
[00:43:33] Speaker A: Okay.
Quickly, Stolas. And then Rube does act.
But Johawk, you are immediately going to realize, you know, from a meta perspective and from a real perspective perspective that this creature is about to act upon you.
[00:43:52] Speaker G: I'm still dodging.
[00:43:55] Speaker A: Stolas.
[00:43:59] Speaker F: Can I poop and swoop?
[00:44:00] Speaker A: Absolutely. You know what they say about gargoyles, great guardians of wizards. Except the pigeons make a mess of them.
Yeah, like getting just right up.
[00:44:13] Speaker F: Right up in one of its glowing red eyes.
[00:44:15] Speaker A: Okay, go for it.
We would say Stolas has pooped on his head.
Well, the trick is done. The next person who attacks on melee has advantage or just Steve?
[00:44:29] Speaker F: No, it's anyone that attacks has. Has the help action attached to it.
[00:44:35] Speaker A: Okay. This huge creature is confounded.
Anything else with Stolas, where do they fly to?
[00:44:43] Speaker F: Flies out of range.
[00:44:47] Speaker A: One of the areas where the gargoyle is not.
[00:44:51] Speaker F: Yes. Yeah. Out of. Out of attack range.
[00:44:54] Speaker A: Okay. There's a bit of popping from Rube. And with their move, they're going to communicate a couple things.
They communicate firstly in Kaitoa, you can obviously translate this.
Can't cast.
[00:45:10] Speaker F: No magic.
[00:45:12] Speaker A: And then pops again and is now, you know, clearly issuing a warning about the prismatic spray. They say, stand back.
[00:45:26] Speaker G: Yeah.
[00:45:28] Speaker D: He says, can't cast. And a warning about the prismatic spray. I think Rube. Obviously you could say don't cast, but Rube's cryptic for some reason.
[00:45:41] Speaker E: I think Rube's saying that he can't cast anything.
[00:45:45] Speaker A: You hear three popping noises and they go.
And you actually hear him clarify with three words. I can't cast.
[00:45:57] Speaker D: Yeah, there you go.
Rube can't cast.
[00:46:01] Speaker F: So let loose.
[00:46:04] Speaker D: Like, I message back to Rube.
[00:46:07] Speaker A: Like, why, in that moment that you try and communicate back, you are distracted by the sound of a huge clang from up top.
The iron gargoyle has acted.
Thirteen plus eight.
Does that hit you, Johawk?
[00:46:31] Speaker G: Is that with disadvantage?
[00:46:33] Speaker A: No.
13 +8.
[00:46:40] Speaker G: Even if I was wearing armor, that'd be a hit.
I have enraged.
[00:46:44] Speaker F: I'm saving that.
[00:46:46] Speaker A: Okay, are you ready for.
[00:46:50] Speaker B: Okay, that's not terrible.
[00:46:52] Speaker A: 10 damage.
[00:46:55] Speaker G: One temporary hit point left.
[00:46:57] Speaker A: And those fumes are serving you well.
This creature now.
Yeah. Sort of remains in that stance right in front of you.
[00:47:09] Speaker G: Okay.
[00:47:11] Speaker A: They seem to be holding back a little bit.
I growl.
Steve, you hear the gnoll growl and receive what sounds like an attack.
And I believe you're up at the top of the order party. And now combat is underway on the floor above you five.
[00:47:34] Speaker F: Okay, so we've got to get. I've got to get up through this. This hole here.
This porthole.
[00:47:41] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, hey, look, there's Kaitoa's grappling hook where he at least had something brace there. And there is Zozo's old rope as well. So plenty of things.
[00:47:51] Speaker F: Okay. I'm going to shimmy up as quickly as possible. In fact, I'm going to kind of do an acrobatic move or I'll pull myself up and try to vault up through the hole in the floor.
[00:48:11] Speaker G: Oh, Lovely.
[00:48:11] Speaker A: Okay, so you'll just expend 10ft of movement going up there. And let's just make a nice, easy acrobatics check. just beat a 10.
[00:48:19] Speaker F: That's a 14 plus 7.
[00:48:21] Speaker A: Okay. And the boy from Moy just scurries up and does a couple flips. And as. As you come up here, you are flanking the iron gargoyle.
[00:48:31] Speaker F: Okay, I'm gonna use. I'd like to use the rest of my speed to create as much space as possible.
[00:48:38] Speaker A: Okay, you would be.
You'd have about, I don't know, 40ft before you hit the wall.
[00:48:43] Speaker F: I'm. Like I said, I just want to make as much space between me and the gargoyle as humanly as whatever I've got left. So I've got 20, I guess.
And then I guess I'll do what Steve does and just unload.
Do I have. Do I have a bonus action still?
[00:49:07] Speaker A: Yeah, all of our buffing round and. Etc. Well, let's see you climb the rope.
You're throwing a dagger.
[00:49:14] Speaker F: If I have a bonus action left, I'm gonna. Hunter's mark.
[00:49:18] Speaker A: Yes, you can certainly.
[00:49:18] Speaker C: Hunter's mark.
[00:49:20] Speaker A: Well, Steve, what are you doing with the rest of your move?
[00:49:25] Speaker F: See, Steve has hopped up. He has moved as far away as possible.
And then I'm throwing a mark on the big metal thing, and I'm gonna start chucking daggers.
What? I kind of want to do the first dagger. I want to see if I can throw it into a.
Into like a crease in the armor or a crease in these metal plates to try and jam it and remove mobility.
Yeah, but jam it. So first one out.
19 plus 3 for 22.
[00:50:08] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[00:50:10] Speaker F: That is 13. 3. 16 plus 10 for 26.
[00:50:18] Speaker A: Wonderful.
[00:50:19] Speaker F: Okay, next attack is going to be a miss.
That was real shitty.
And the last one is a 15 plus nine. I want to use a battle master maneuver.
[00:50:39] Speaker A: Okay. 15 plus nine was to hit.
[00:50:41] Speaker F: 24 to hit. Yeah.
And I'm going to use a battle master maneuver. So on hit expend a die to knock a target down.
[00:50:50] Speaker A: Okay, Steve, how magical are your weapons feeling right now? Like your slashing, piercing.
[00:50:57] Speaker F: Not at all.
[00:51:00] Speaker A: Go on.
[00:51:02] Speaker D: Well, is that Dr. Phil asking?
[00:51:04] Speaker F: Yeah. This trip attack isn't necessarily for damage. It is to slip a dagger under its feet. A banana peel.
So timed out to. To put a dagger under its feet. Yeah, yeah. It's a trip attack to make it fall prone and it needs to take a strength save or fall.
[00:51:26] Speaker A: Okay, what kind of strength save it's.
[00:51:29] Speaker D: Like as it steps down, it steps down on you.
[00:51:31] Speaker A: It fails. It doesn't matter. Don't even add it up.
[00:51:33] Speaker C: It's a three.
[00:51:35] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:51:36] Speaker F: And since this is just a regular attack, it's going to take some damage as well.
So that is 8 and 3. 11 plus 3. So it's 14 damage. And then it falls prone if it fails.
[00:51:54] Speaker A: And it did indeed. So you slid your dagger right under one of its feet.
[00:51:58] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:59] Speaker F: There it goes.
[00:52:02] Speaker A: Anything else in your move? It falls prone with a huge crash that makes the entire two to three floors of the the Brass Tower here reverberate.
[00:52:16] Speaker F: That's it for me.
[00:52:21] Speaker A: And that is where we will have to leave you until the next time on Dungeons and Blaggards.
[00:53:30] Speaker A: Wait, was that our halfway cutoff point?
That was the spiritual ending. Yep.
[00:53:35] Speaker G: I think I'm gonna use my action surge next turn might reckless attack because it's probably gonna hit me anyways.
[00:53:43] Speaker F: What was it? Thirteen plus eight?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's gonna.
[00:53:49] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:53:52] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:53:53] Speaker F: So if it rolls about a seven or higher.
[00:53:55] Speaker G: Yeah.
[00:53:58] Speaker F: I wonder if there's anything we can do to mitigate that.
[00:54:01] Speaker G: Wait, we already have advantage on it.
[00:54:04] Speaker F: Yeah, we managed to hit it for sure. I mean I'll just. I'll just keep throwing stolas at it.
[00:54:09] Speaker G: Did I create weapon master? This thing probably has some pretty good ac.
[00:54:12] Speaker D: I. I wouldn't. Great weapon it.
[00:54:15] Speaker G: Yeah, there's no point see if my low rolls hit it. And if they don't, then I won't. Great weapon master.
[00:54:24] Speaker F: Yeah, it's probably gonna have a decent if.
[00:54:25] Speaker D: If you can hit with a 17, I will. Great weapon.
If I can't hit a 17, then. Yeah, no chance.
[00:54:35] Speaker B: So I should probably save this prismatic.
[00:54:39] Speaker D: I think this is not the worst thing we're gonna fight.
[00:54:44] Speaker A: Yeah, I think we're gonna.
[00:54:46] Speaker B: I think it'll come in handy later.
[00:54:48] Speaker D: I mean I. I think it would easily, but I don't think this is the worst thing we're going to encounter.
[00:54:54] Speaker G: Alternately, Rube might have another casting of that or at least a sixth level spell.
[00:55:01] Speaker F: True.
[00:55:02] Speaker G: Can you cast more than once into that rod?
[00:55:05] Speaker B: Yeah, it has three slots in it.
Store up to three spells at a time.
[00:55:11] Speaker C: Me and Kaitoa can got the strength to do some damage there and I think.
Was it, Beleg's shatter should do some good.
[00:55:19] Speaker B: Yeah, I feel like Shatter would probably do. Do some pretty good damage.
[00:55:23] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:55:23] Speaker E: Yeah, I think so.
[00:55:24] Speaker A: Just sitting back down.
