Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: Welcome, friends and adventurers, to another episode of Dungeons and Blackguards. I am your dungeon master, Robulon. Joining me in no particular order, are the players.
Tomo.
[00:00:17] Speaker B: I am playing Steve Tehuman, Level 5 Gloomstalker. Ranger Fighter, Level 2, Rogue, Level 1. I have an owl.
[00:00:27] Speaker A: Brandon.
[00:00:29] Speaker C: I am Ikarutpuishlay, Level 8 Blood Hunter, half orc.
[00:00:34] Speaker D: And I have breast enhancements.
Hey, I'm Braden. I play Beleague Degar, half elf. Hexblade, warlock, level eight, Eric.
[00:00:48] Speaker C: I'm Eric. I play Dr. Zozo brightfeather, a level eight neurokocra artificer.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: And last but not least, Caleb.
I am the construct Kaito Hatata.
And I am a level 8 warforged barbarian.
Previously on Dungeons and Blackguards.
[00:01:16] Speaker D: This is where it gets difficult, not having everybody here.
I want to go to Hugh Castle as soon as possible to try and intercept.
[00:01:24] Speaker B: Well, I mean, we need to. Yeah, we really need to get that Ms. Chick down.
[00:01:29] Speaker D: So either I take a short rest or I forego that. We try to go straight to Hugo Castle.
[00:01:40] Speaker B: Do we want to jump into a fight again? Minus two?
[00:01:43] Speaker C: Yeah. I don't know if I want to.
Yeah. Do we want to go into that with Oaks?
[00:01:48] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:01:49] Speaker C: Two people down.
[00:01:50] Speaker D: But do we want to risk taking, like. Do we want to putter around and risk spending too much time?
[00:01:59] Speaker B: Well, yeah, I mean, I don't.
[00:02:00] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:02:01] Speaker B: I don't want to waste the time that we have because she's certainly gone back to the castle and who knows. Who knows where afterwards.
I kind of have a.
There's. There's something that's bugging me about the.
The chests, the.
[00:02:15] Speaker D: The mimic that.
[00:02:18] Speaker B: In the danger room. Wizard and spear in the danger room. There's the.
[00:02:24] Speaker D: Do you want to investigate that?
[00:02:26] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. I mean, while we're here.
[00:02:29] Speaker D: That's something the three of us could do.
[00:02:31] Speaker C: That's a mimic in the danger room.
[00:02:35] Speaker B: So when we were deposing Nafre, who was this guy that represented the. The mage's guild? He had this chest in his office.
[00:02:44] Speaker D: Wizards guild.
[00:02:45] Speaker B: Just. Yeah. Did I say Wizard's Guild?
[00:02:48] Speaker D: No, no, you keep saying Mage's guild.
[00:02:50] Speaker B: Okay, well, the. The wizards guild.
I'm sorry.
Anyway, the wizards guild, he have his chest in his office that was, like, highly guarded by. It was either the chest was a mimic or it was guarded by, like, some sort of mimic, like, creature.
And so there was a replica or a copy of it in this danger room at the White Chain.
[00:03:17] Speaker D: It's still all cased up. Too, isn't it?
[00:03:19] Speaker B: Yeah.
Yeah. I mean, we should. We could check it out since we're here already.
Yeah.
[00:03:25] Speaker D: I just want to double check with Rob that it's not gonna screw us over in the long run.
[00:03:30] Speaker B: I mean, for all we know, Emmaus is gone already.
Maybe it took us to, like, drag all our ship back into the. Into the white chain.
Well, we discussed Steve kind of having some sort of.
I guess it was like an epiphany, A small epiphany of sorts regarding the mimic chest or the copy of the mimic chest that's in the danger room.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: Oh, yes.
[00:04:00] Speaker B: Something pinged, I guess.
[00:04:03] Speaker A: I'm sure. As the mud courses off your boots and as the rain pours off your poncho, you're mostly dry inside.
You look to Dante, and he kind of looks you in the eyes and looks at the party, and he says.
[00:04:22] Speaker E: I have a message.
[00:04:24] Speaker B: From whom?
[00:04:25] Speaker E: What would it be? If I said it wasn't from Gurm, but that the little gnome had another name, and he said that I would use that name special.
[00:04:33] Speaker B: Like, we can call him Gurm. Let's take the message. Okay.
[00:04:38] Speaker E: Well, it's coming from Germ. Wink, wink. But he said to use another name.
[00:04:45] Speaker D: And that name was.
[00:04:47] Speaker F: He said to only let friends know.
[00:04:50] Speaker A: Who's the bird?
[00:04:53] Speaker D: The bird's not here right now.
[00:04:56] Speaker A: No, that bird, the big owl, you know, Dante catches her eyes.
Dante has a message from Gurm.
[00:05:08] Speaker C: Gurm, okay.
[00:05:10] Speaker E: Oh, you know Gurm, too?
[00:05:13] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, I know Gurm.
[00:05:15] Speaker E: Well, guys and ladies, I see all work together.
[00:05:20] Speaker C: Yep, yep, we work together.
[00:05:22] Speaker A: Now, you certainly all dress the same.
[00:05:25] Speaker E: You know, covered in rain and shit.
[00:05:30] Speaker D: Look, I consider that accessorizing.
[00:05:33] Speaker E: Here was the parting message from Gurm.
[00:05:35] Speaker F: But he said to call him Mickey.
[00:05:40] Speaker E: He said, tell the Badger boys Mickey says.
And then he was transported away from the Kenku's tower to I don't know where, with that emissary.
[00:06:08] Speaker D: Oh.
[00:06:11] Speaker B: Oh, fuck.
[00:06:14] Speaker E: And then he screamed as he dematerialized, I assume, behind the closed doors to the Kenku's tower. This was just about a half an hour ago. I suppose it was while you were napping.
[00:06:29] Speaker D: Oh, God.
[00:06:31] Speaker E: And so I. I ran back.
I don't know what to do anymore.
[00:06:38] Speaker B: Oh, they got Mickey. Huh?
[00:06:40] Speaker D: All right, we have to go to the Wizard's Guild.
[00:06:45] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah.
[00:06:47] Speaker D: I don't see any other.
Any other option.
[00:06:52] Speaker B: All right, Steve.
[00:06:57] Speaker A: Sorry. As you. Listen, you were interrupted in that epiphany you had.
There is a connection between the material that makes up the mimic, the material that makes up Nafrey's. Construct guards.
And you even begin to see a similarity between the locking mechanism and the door to the wizard and spear and the counter at the wizard and spear. It all begins to dawn on you, as Dante blabbers on.
[00:07:33] Speaker D: Did you write that down in your notes, Tomo?
[00:07:35] Speaker B: It's all made of the same stuff.
[00:07:38] Speaker D: Because I didn't write that down in mine. And it should be written down somewhere.
Would beleg know how long it would take to ride to where the Wizards Guild is?
[00:07:52] Speaker E: Weeks.
You wouldn't want to ride there going through all the northern provinces. I mean, those steward kingdoms, they're just in open revolt against the Mad King orc they call him now, Mad King Poonslee, on the hunt for his missing son. Going totally fucking nuts up there. And so then a boat ride to Tonwyn.
[00:08:18] Speaker B: It must be a different punsle from the one that we know.
[00:08:23] Speaker C: I think Poonshlei's probably a pretty cool.
[00:08:24] Speaker B: He's a different prince, I'm sure.
Can we. Can we go check the box?
[00:08:30] Speaker D: You want to check the box right now?
[00:08:31] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So as the conversation drifts away from matters of significance to Dante, he takes off his small cap and bows low before you.
[00:08:45] Speaker E: Well, there's only one friendly face left at the castle. And really it's whom I report to ultimately, the castle warden, the dwarven warden.
[00:08:58] Speaker A: And he leaves into the rain.
[00:09:03] Speaker B: I.
I toss him a silver and tell him to go buy some nice soup.
[00:09:09] Speaker E: Ping. Oh, money talks in pole. That hasn't changed. Thank you. I'm really glad I came to work today.
[00:09:16] Speaker A: Oh, no, wait. Not at all.
[00:09:17] Speaker F: Bad day.
[00:09:18] Speaker E: Look at the stairs of the Temple of Dan.
[00:09:21] Speaker B: We didn't do that.
[00:09:23] Speaker D: We saved people.
[00:09:25] Speaker B: That wasn't our fault. That was.
That was the Golem and Emmaus.
[00:09:30] Speaker E: Okay, I bet you we'll be hearing.
[00:09:32] Speaker A: That quite a lot. It was the Golem.
[00:09:34] Speaker E: Bingo.
Farewell Malaysias and lords and ladies. No, it's getting awkward. Bye.
[00:09:48] Speaker B: Bye.
[00:09:50] Speaker A: Off into the rain now, guys. It is well into, say, the second hour past midday, and as you move upstairs now. Yeah, nothing can be done, I suppose, with the casualties.
Porco has been restored.
You have triaged everybody that was available and all the second floor has been ruined. Yeah, no guests there except for Zozo. Ostensibly there was a room being set up for you up here, and it is.
Let's see what side you were gonna.
[00:10:26] Speaker B: Get put up on.
[00:10:27] Speaker A: The nice side.
Oh, yeah. Your room got destroyed.
[00:10:31] Speaker C: Oh.
[00:10:34] Speaker B: And so everything you touch gets destroyed.
[00:10:39] Speaker A: We're gonna be put up, I guess, on. On the Higher end side that they were, you know, pre. In pre launch. You know, they'd made up the beds, they put the linens out, they'd filled the wash basin. Nope. And so now you're going up to the more familiar third floor owner's floor. And now you're seeing Steve indicate that he is, like, hopping. What the hell? Did Steve just hop out the window?
[00:11:02] Speaker D: What?
[00:11:03] Speaker B: I do tend to do that.
[00:11:05] Speaker D: Steve.
[00:11:06] Speaker A: Yeah. And Steve is gone.
And Steve, you are now, you know, hopping through the window into the Danger room.
[00:11:15] Speaker D: That leg follows Steven to the Danger Room.
[00:11:18] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:11:19] Speaker C: I follow them.
[00:11:21] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:11:22] Speaker B: Before they get a chance, I gingerly and very quickly release the trigger mechanism to the traps that I've left in the window.
[00:11:32] Speaker A: I was gonna say watch that window.
It can really hurt your ankle. Rook knows.
So you have disarmed any sort of traps, Steve?
[00:11:43] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:11:44] Speaker D: Am I making, like, a dex save or something?
[00:11:47] Speaker B: No, they're good. They've been.
They've been disarmed.
[00:11:51] Speaker A: And. Yeah, it appears under the eaves here is a second portion to the room. So I'll pull a map up for your curiosity, everybody. We haven't seen it in a while, but yeah, this third floor owner's floor.
[00:12:03] Speaker D: Roughly, is one half where he lost his hair.
[00:12:08] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:09] Speaker A: One half where you guys sleep. The Hurt Locker in the middle. And then the other side, this sort of call it empty attic. And Steve, you were after the crated mimic.
[00:12:23] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah, we're gonna. We're gonna open that thing up.
Hey, Billy, you want to do it or do you want me to do it this time?
[00:12:33] Speaker D: Open it up.
[00:12:34] Speaker B: No.
Assume the. Assume the. The rightful owners.
Look.
[00:12:41] Speaker D: That'S up to you, buddy. Want to practice your disguised self?
[00:12:46] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:12:47] Speaker D: All right, then go for it.
[00:12:48] Speaker B: All right, I'm Nephrey.
[00:12:52] Speaker A: Bloop.
Okay, can you both roll?
[00:12:56] Speaker D: Belly snaps his fingers and turns into Steve.
[00:13:04] Speaker A: Oh, boy. Can you both roll intelligence?
[00:13:09] Speaker B: That is not great for me.
[00:13:11] Speaker D: No, that's. That's my dump stat.
[00:13:15] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:13:18] Speaker D: No.
17 on 19 and then decided to flop over to nine minus one. That's an eight.
[00:13:27] Speaker B: Steve has an even roll and rolled a 17.
Can I. Can I swap it? Swap the look for the wonderful gentleman that we met initially at the beginning of this whole adventure.
The ex. Owner of the white chain.
[00:13:52] Speaker D: Oh, the guy who took the arrow to the back of the head when we were escaping.
[00:13:56] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, the human.
[00:14:00] Speaker D: Fuck. What was his name?
[00:14:01] Speaker B: His name was. I lost my game notes.
My.
The word file that had all my game notes got corrupted. It was awesome.
[00:14:16] Speaker A: You're so close, your mind is Remembering. We should almost call a listener in or something.
[00:14:23] Speaker D: Oh, no, I'm gonna find it. I've got it. For sure.
[00:14:26] Speaker B: It's not Dallow.
[00:14:29] Speaker D: No, Dallo is Dallow was the grandson of Tilty.
Yeah, Numba.
My name is Numba.
[00:14:41] Speaker B: Oh, shit. Yeah. Did I find them? Hold on.
[00:14:44] Speaker D: Your notes, Bartio.
[00:14:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:14:50] Speaker D: Hell yeah. I didn't even find it. I just remembered it.
[00:14:52] Speaker A: Beleg, I will award you inspiration.
[00:14:57] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:14:59] Speaker A: And you recall the name of Bartio, who you now understand to be the previous owner up here of the white chain. And Beleg, you also understand him to be.
Well, I'll save that for the private chat.
So in the corner is the crated mimic, which Steve, you remember just in time.
[00:15:26] Speaker F: That's not natural.
[00:15:30] Speaker A: That's at the wizard and Spear.
This is a mystery chest that looks virtually identical to Nafrey's.
[00:15:41] Speaker B: Yeah, I think.
I think it's possibly gonna be Bartia. So I'm going to swap the look and hope for the best.
[00:15:54] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:15:54] Speaker D: Alex got his like thumb and second finger prime to snap into other disguises.
[00:16:00] Speaker B: Just in case this doesn't occur.
[00:16:04] Speaker A: And Dr. Zozo, you're witnessing these guys shuffling a couple of quick disguise selfs on. And so, Steve, you only ever saw Bartillo in a burlap sack and a rope.
What would you put him in? And I will give you a huge modifier if you can use anything to describe Bartillo.
[00:16:27] Speaker B: Oh, no, it's not in my notes.
[00:16:32] Speaker A: I will give you three guess who type questions.
[00:16:37] Speaker D: That's a fun game.
[00:16:38] Speaker B: Okay.
Does he have facial hair, like a beard?
[00:16:44] Speaker A: Yes, he does.
[00:16:46] Speaker B: Yes, he does.
Does he have black hair?
[00:16:51] Speaker A: No, he doesn't.
[00:16:56] Speaker B: Does he have long hair?
[00:16:59] Speaker A: No, he doesn't. It's funny though. You're hitting on enough things. We described him as an auburn mustachioed bastard.
And you remember him inching out of the cell where you found him. And you remember, yeah, his auburn hair. He had a big mustache and he said he wasn't a fighter. Merchant guy. So maybe a little portly. And there you go. Steve, you have now a good approximation of Barteo.
[00:17:30] Speaker B: All right. I floopity floop into Bartio.
[00:17:37] Speaker A: As you approach the chest, behind the sort of wooden 2x4 crated frame, you see that little locking mechanism, that little brass eye come to life.
[00:17:50] Speaker B: Cool.
All right, Chess, open up.
I am Bartio.
That's my best.
That's my best performance.
[00:18:05] Speaker A: Yeah. This eye is searching around the room, and as the light crisscrosses in through the windows, it is now focused on you, Steve. Bartio, can you roll a performance or charisma based skill?
[00:18:23] Speaker B: Oh, God.
Warlock, get ready.
[00:18:30] Speaker D: Yeah, I'm getting ready.
[00:18:31] Speaker B: All right.
[00:18:32] Speaker D: I've made mental notes of your Bartio.
[00:18:36] Speaker B: Oh, darn it. Well, that's a 14 as performance.
[00:18:43] Speaker A: Dr. Zozo is investigating the wall behind the hurt locker. And Dr. Zozo, am I to understand that did you just get trapped behind a wall?
[00:18:57] Speaker C: I think I did.
[00:18:58] Speaker A: Okay, Dr. Zozo, that really happened. We're gonna get back to you.
[00:19:09] Speaker B: That's awesome.
[00:19:10] Speaker A: That really.
That was literally the crack that, as we're about to find out, Nafre escaped from.
Oh, Zozo, your inquisitive nature is insatiable.
[00:19:28] Speaker B: So.
[00:19:31] Speaker A: As your backs are turned to the owl sage, you guys approach the chest.
[00:19:42] Speaker B: And what did you roll for my performance? Mm, 14.
We.
[00:19:50] Speaker A: Okay, the chest starts to kind of shake on its big claw feet. And the eye is still fixated on you. And now it seems like it has an inner brass pupil. I can almost hear it sort of click like a mechanism as the pupil dilates and is just focusing right in on your mustache. Something is wrong.
[00:20:15] Speaker D: Make it curlier.
[00:20:17] Speaker B: I. I can. I can't do it like you do it. I can only do it. And then it's there.
I.
I cut myself shaving improperly.
I figured it was time for a new look anyway.
[00:20:36] Speaker A: Oh, boy. You see the eye studying, studying you and Belak, what do you look like?
[00:20:43] Speaker D: I look like Steve right now.
[00:20:45] Speaker A: And you look like Steve did a boy in a poncho. And then the owl has just emerged from what looks like behind this small slice that has opened out of the rear end of the. The Hurt Locker. And now the brass eyes. Searching between all three party members. Going between all three of you. Searching, searching for familiarity.
[00:21:12] Speaker B: All right, time to open up. Bardio wants inside.
[00:21:17] Speaker D: That's creepy.
[00:21:20] Speaker B: Yes, creepy. Bardio.
Bellication.
[00:21:27] Speaker A: As you laugh and chuckle in a sort of higher pitched Steve voice. And as you get sort of a little thick with the innuendos there, Steve, the eye relaxes.
And just like you saw before Beleg in Nafrey's chamber, the eyelid, the brass eyelid snaps closed.
And there is that kind of imperceptible sense that the lid has been unlocked.
[00:22:02] Speaker D: Ace Bertio, I think we're all right.
[00:22:07] Speaker B: We're always alright here at the White Chain.
All right, get Shorva to make us some brunch. We're going to dig deep into this chest here.
[00:22:19] Speaker A: Okay. Well, as the lid rises, you note it is restrained still, right? It's still in The.
The shipping crate. So it has only opened about 5 to 10 inches, and now it bumps against the inside of the shipping crate that it is contained within.
[00:22:40] Speaker B: Oh, so it's still. I.
Like, we can see it, though, right? Like, it's.
[00:22:46] Speaker A: Oh, yes, absolutely. And, I mean, all you have to do would be to peek in, and you'd probably be able to see the contents. But right now, it's. It's still limited. The chest is limited from opening within its shipping crate.
Yeah.
[00:23:00] Speaker C: Ip, can.
[00:23:03] Speaker A: Zozo you stock up.
[00:23:08] Speaker B: So sneaky.
[00:23:09] Speaker A: We now have a list of things to get back to with zozo. Well, zozo, sure. In this moment, you've rejoined the party and will essentially at the moment, tell you all about that. You discovered the rear entrance to the hurt locker. As you were poking around, you found a secret brick that all it would take would be somebody with a high intelligence to spend a little bit of time on this thing. And the moment you released this brick, you found the rear entrance to what appears to be a seal tight safe, the one which you've seen the front of.
And as you momentarily get caught back there and aren't quite sure how to kind of release yourself, you're lucky. And you sort of stumble back into the light just in time to peek inside.
[00:24:04] Speaker D: Can Beleg use his.
No, he can. He does. He uses his pact of the blade to summon a crowbar. Start taking apart the box.
[00:24:17] Speaker A: Whoa.
Summon a mystical crowbar, and you want to pop the top pieces off. Well, Zozo, as you're peering into it, all of a sudden, the lid flies open because, you know, Beleg has aided you. And a couple of these rust nails fly out into the dusty attic danger room here.
And as you look inside, there is Bartillo.
[00:24:52] Speaker B: That's gonna stink.
[00:24:56] Speaker A: There is.
[00:24:59] Speaker F: A case.
[00:25:00] Speaker A: It looks like a metal lockbox, and it fills, you know, virtually the entire bottom of this chest. It looks like it may have been custom made to sort of fit this just so.
[00:25:16] Speaker B: All right.
[00:25:16] Speaker D: They're like, do we see the lock mechanism?
[00:25:22] Speaker B: Just as Bartio left it. Let's get this thing out. I want to see it.
[00:25:27] Speaker A: Well, the locking mechanism is sort of integrated into the side of it. It's like a. Imagine a locking cash box.
[00:25:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:25:37] Speaker A: But large, you know, almost two and a half feet by 18 inches. And it lays in the bottom of this chest.
[00:25:48] Speaker D: Well, let's pull that lockbox out.
[00:25:50] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:25:51] Speaker D: Hey, guys, let's pull the lockbox out.
[00:25:54] Speaker B: Hey, I don't sound like that.
[00:25:56] Speaker D: I know, but it's the best I Can do.
[00:25:58] Speaker B: You're using a real shitty, shitty, shitty sounding voice. That's not how Steve sounds.
You're making fun of me, aren't you?
It's not my fault. I don't know.
[00:26:12] Speaker C: It's.
[00:26:12] Speaker D: It's.
It's hard.
[00:26:16] Speaker B: I'm not. I'm not fully grown yet. It's not my fault.
[00:26:24] Speaker A: But, oh, what is in the bottom of this thing?
[00:26:28] Speaker D: I don't know, but I'm excited.
[00:26:30] Speaker A: God, I don't know how many times our campaign's gonna get to the point where it's like the cliffhanger is what's in the box.
[00:26:39] Speaker B: What's in the box?
[00:26:41] Speaker D: It's like our favorite reference.
[00:26:44] Speaker B: There have been so many boxes.
[00:26:46] Speaker E: What's in the pontoon?
[00:26:49] Speaker B: What's in the boat?
[00:26:51] Speaker D: Yeah, man.
[00:26:52] Speaker A: What's in the desk?
[00:26:56] Speaker D: I really think we should have Brad Pitt as an official sponsor of this podcast.
[00:27:00] Speaker B: I'm sure he has the do that for us.
[00:27:04] Speaker C: We just opened a box within a box, and now there's a box inside it.
It's just a nesting box chest and then a box.
[00:27:15] Speaker D: In line with the most frustrating Christmas presents I've ever gotten.
[00:27:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
Has someone ever done that to you where they just put a box within a box?
[00:27:23] Speaker D: Oh, yeah.
[00:27:23] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:27:24] Speaker D: You had a fucking gift card.
[00:27:28] Speaker B: Fuck you guys.
30 minutes.
[00:27:34] Speaker A: Well, it appears to require the skills of a lock pick.
[00:27:42] Speaker B: Yes. Steve, zozo, you want to flip a coin, see who gets to do it first?
[00:27:48] Speaker A: Sure.
[00:27:50] Speaker B: All right, let's roll a D2.
Call it in the air. Heads or tails?
Tails it is. Heads. Steve Guthrie.
[00:28:03] Speaker C: All right.
[00:28:03] Speaker B: All right.
Get my little.
My little gnomish thieves tools out.
[00:28:11] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. And this set you got from Mickey contains very thin rods.
Some of them are straight, and some have hooks on the end. And you quickly determine you will be using a very small gauge. This is a fine lock.
[00:28:34] Speaker B: All right, let's get to it.
So with the thieves tools, what it does, I guess it's dexterity plus proficiency with tools.
I think that's the way it works. Right.
They offer the proficiency bonus to a dex role.
[00:28:49] Speaker A: Yeah. So you'll be adding D20 plus Dex plus proficiency.
[00:28:57] Speaker B: Yeah. Okay.
[00:28:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:28:59] Speaker B: Oh, yeah.
So that is a 19 plus a dexterity bonus of 6, plus a proficiency bonus of 3. So that is 28.
[00:29:13] Speaker A: Interesting.
Well, you notice for the very first time that this is monogrammed on the inside.
And as you, you know, withdraw this very thin, sort of forked rod and very gingerly manipulate the mechanism, you hear a click. And as you put the rod back in you do notice there seems to be the end of a monogrammed gnomish name.
[00:29:50] Speaker B: Oh, is it.
Is it a T?
[00:29:55] Speaker A: It is not. It is. D E R. You see the end runes D E R sort of sticking out of a fold. Let's clear the end of a name.
But more things are pressing because as this box opens, it is full of gold and papers.
There must be. There must be four or five thousand gold pieces in the form of ingots.
[00:30:33] Speaker B: Okay, this is not the time. We're high fiving now, right? Yeah.
Yes.
[00:30:38] Speaker D: We're not telling Rook and Kaito.
[00:30:41] Speaker B: These guys don't need to know.
[00:30:48] Speaker A: Oh boy.
[00:30:50] Speaker D: Let's go buy the Ring of Might.
[00:30:56] Speaker B: Let's just get really, really awesome. The pimp clothes. When they come back.
We're hard to. Everything has changed. We've just got gold dripping off of us.
The finest of silks.
[00:31:10] Speaker D: We took one nap. What happened?
[00:31:15] Speaker B: Oh, we need matching suits.
[00:31:18] Speaker C: I start looking at the papers.
[00:31:20] Speaker D: Yeah. What do those papers look like?
[00:31:22] Speaker A: Yeah. These things are all in gold ingots, Right? These are finely cast gold bars.
The papers are well organized and immediately all. Well, Sorry. Yes. All three of you, I suppose would recognize them to be maps and diagrams and lists.
[00:31:45] Speaker B: Are these papers you have are on the list prepared?
[00:31:48] Speaker D: Rob.
[00:31:50] Speaker A: The maps are of the Gulf of Gila and the area between there and Match. And the west, the northwestern provinces.
The diagrams, Zozo, are fascinating to you.
They describe constructs and animated armor and various things that you would put on the list towards creating life and golems and all sorts of creatures here. There's a long list of names as well.
[00:32:32] Speaker B: Any familiar names?
[00:32:35] Speaker A: Yeah, I was confusing the party for a second there. Beleg and Steve, you recognize all of these documents?
[00:32:43] Speaker B: We've seen these before.
[00:32:45] Speaker A: These are documents.
[00:32:47] Speaker D: Same documents that we found in Nafrey's chest.
[00:32:51] Speaker A: These are the documents bearing a watermark and inspiration to anybody who can remember. I think it was Rook who noticed it. Anybody couldn't. Yeah. Identify or confirm once and for. For all the. Yes, these are. These are one and the same.
[00:33:07] Speaker D: Because of the watermark.
[00:33:09] Speaker A: Yeah. As you hold it up, Beleg. And you look in the four corners of this sheet and you look up to the light.
You do begin to see something.
[00:33:19] Speaker D: Oh shit. Black arrow.
[00:33:22] Speaker A: Oh, very nice. Yes, it is hard to make out. But there's the impression of the black arrow. And yes, these seem to be almost carbon copies. Or at least from the same desk of and from the same plot.
[00:33:41] Speaker D: Can we. Can we get Oldfoot to come look at these?
[00:33:45] Speaker A: Dr. Zozo. Where are the patients?
[00:33:53] Speaker C: I think we. They're resting in bed.
[00:33:57] Speaker A: First floor, second floor.
[00:34:00] Speaker C: Probably took them to the.
I think. Didn't Rook go up to the. Yeah, Rook went up to the third floor.
[00:34:06] Speaker A: Rook's in the third floor. Oldfoot. Yeah, that. That would be. Did you include Oldfoot? Is he a bona fide member of the party?
[00:34:14] Speaker D: I consider him one. Well then he's my current favorite.
[00:34:17] Speaker A: NPC's upstairs.
[00:34:23] Speaker D: See, he might recognize these if I would assume he was part of the Ravens root or.
Yeah, Raven's roots and stuff.
[00:34:31] Speaker A: Okay, well, so we can assume then that what happened was after triaging everybody downstairs, you took Oldfoot with you up here.
He would just be in the other side. He's not with you in the danger room. But yeah, Belak your mind is starting to really see the opportunity there.
[00:34:54] Speaker B: Hey, Rob.
[00:34:55] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:34:56] Speaker B: The notes on.
On this construct situation, so called giving life to inanimate objects.
If.
If there's a method to give life, then the opposite of that method would possibly taketh away. Allow. Yeah, Allow one to remove life from a construct.
[00:35:24] Speaker D: Are we gonna kill Kaitoa?
[00:35:26] Speaker B: Not yet.
Steve's taken a very vested interest in.
In removing life from constructs or being able to understand how to. And constructs in general.
[00:35:43] Speaker A: Well, Beleg, as you say, taketh away.
Your raised specter is now finally reaching the end of the hour.
[00:35:55] Speaker B: And he.
[00:35:56] Speaker A: Says something to you.
You can understand it.
[00:36:02] Speaker F: Consult the dead.
[00:36:06] Speaker B: Elf.
[00:36:09] Speaker D: Consult the dead elf and Beleg.
[00:36:12] Speaker A: You're turning towards the other side of the third floor. Yeah. You brought Oldfoot up there.
The chest at the moment, you know, you are Bartillog. You're Steve. The chest seems as before when you encountered this type of chest content. You know, and its brass eye looks upwards towards the ceiling as the lid is raised the full 90 degrees.
[00:36:37] Speaker D: Joke's up. I'm gonna transform back to Beleg. I'm gonna go grab Oldfoot.
[00:36:41] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:36:42] Speaker B: Is there any more in the chest or. That was it just the.
Just the multitude of golds.
[00:36:50] Speaker A: Let's see here.
[00:36:54] Speaker B: I'm checking for like false bottoms for any.
Any like Millennium Falcon style fake floors that could possibly hold anything else.
[00:37:06] Speaker A: Yeah, but what you do notice, Steve, is the wood is one continuous piece. It's like a dugout canoe. And no, there's nothing left in the bottom of it. But that is what you remark as you look for false bottoms. There could be no such thing in such a beautiful piece of workmanship as this. You know, the lid is one solid piece. This is one solid piece. And you start again realizing, what is this exotic wood?
[00:37:44] Speaker B: Do I know of any, of any place or people that could form wood like this?
[00:37:50] Speaker A: Well, yeah, roll history, intelligence or wisdom.
[00:37:54] Speaker D: And yes, go to Flomber to find that.
[00:37:59] Speaker C: Yeah, I mean, if I can roll.
[00:38:01] Speaker B: Like a straight wisdom, that always works for me.
[00:38:03] Speaker A: Okay, Wisdom. And Zozo, you can include yourself in this.
[00:38:09] Speaker B: That 20 nat. 20 plus 2.
[00:38:16] Speaker C: I got a 15.
[00:38:18] Speaker A: Okay, Beleg, as you go out through the window back to the other side, you shout offhand whatever you shouted about Tlombur.
[00:38:36] Speaker D: Yep.
Figure if there's anywhere that we could find a type of wood that you could make a solid chest would be in the feywilds in Clomber.
[00:38:47] Speaker A: Okay. And you're off to get Oldfoot and Steve as he says those words.
And you as well, Zozo. But especially you, Steve.
You start thinking about spirit wood.
And more than that, Steve, you think about the exotic tree that is told to hold the feywild fold together, where land turns upside down on top of itself and waterfalls flow into the sky. And you even think, Steve, about the fabled sore wood. Yes, the flying wood. Gravity defying, very light.
[00:39:37] Speaker B: Makes balsa wood feel like lead.
[00:39:40] Speaker D: My home is so cool.
[00:39:45] Speaker A: Well, you don't know what the owl and the boy from Moy are doing in the other side because you're trying to scoop up old foot.
[00:39:55] Speaker F: But I was down for a bit of a nip.
[00:40:00] Speaker A: And sure enough, it looks like he has stumped all the way down and he has tapped into the chintadoo beer.
[00:40:10] Speaker D: Atta boy. There you go.
[00:40:12] Speaker F: I crawled all the way back up as I watched the rain fall. I drank my beer and my experiences will be like that.
[00:40:23] Speaker A: Tears in the rain.
[00:40:26] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Poetic.
I got something that I'd like you to take a look at.
You can bring your beer.
[00:40:35] Speaker F: Well, scoop me up here in my shield. I got a beer.
[00:40:39] Speaker D: Okay, scoop me up in his shield.
[00:40:41] Speaker F: Put me in the baby bunting.
[00:40:46] Speaker D: I don't have one. I'm just gonna have to carry you like a child.
[00:40:49] Speaker F: Oh, Uncle Beleg, why not I, your love child? Why not I in your arms before we nap?
[00:40:59] Speaker D: I just scoop him up and start walking upstairs.
[00:41:02] Speaker A: And his breath reeks of ale.
[00:41:07] Speaker D: I also take a sip of his pint.
[00:41:10] Speaker B: He really is a gross uncle.
[00:41:15] Speaker A: You manage to rejoin the party on the danger room side, the ultra secret side of the ultra secret owner's floor.
[00:41:23] Speaker D: And dump Oldfoot into the chest with all the pages.
[00:41:31] Speaker B: Just right in a little canoe.
[00:41:32] Speaker E: Hey, look at me.
[00:41:34] Speaker F: I have a paddle. Why Not I paddling to the sea.
[00:41:40] Speaker D: Take a look at these papers.
[00:41:42] Speaker A: And. Oh, guys, he throws up inside the chest.
And he's rolling con two.
Oh, and he's got a minus one.
[00:41:56] Speaker F: Oh, wait, hold on.
[00:41:57] Speaker A: But no, he's got a dwarvish stat here. Hold on against intoxication.
I got advantage.
[00:42:03] Speaker B: I hope spirit one is self cleaning.
[00:42:05] Speaker A: Hey, 12.
Okay, well, he's. He's conscious and so he mutters to all of you.
[00:42:14] Speaker F: Bath time for Old Foot.
[00:42:19] Speaker B: I am not giving this guy a bath.
[00:42:22] Speaker C: No, not it.
[00:42:27] Speaker A: Beleg. You're beginning to regret bringing him into the situation. But what was the question that you wanted to ask?
[00:42:34] Speaker D: I wanted to ask. I wanted to ask him what he knows about the. All the documents in the papers and the list of names.
[00:42:42] Speaker F: Oldfoot betrayed me. You know it well.
[00:42:47] Speaker D: You're Old Foot, you drunken slut.
[00:42:51] Speaker F: I was taken abroad by abroad on a vessel. And she told me she was awfully in metal.
[00:43:03] Speaker A: And he throws up again inside the chest.
[00:43:06] Speaker D: I pick him up out of the chest.
[00:43:11] Speaker A: Does anybody have an aspirin?
[00:43:13] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:43:16] Speaker D: Zozo. Give him a hangover cure.
[00:43:18] Speaker C: Yeah, pull up a little tree bark and grind it up.
[00:43:23] Speaker B: Yeah, I probably got like the raw materials, but Zozo probably makes a more palatable medicine than I do.
[00:43:31] Speaker A: For real. You guys can concoct something. What would that look like?
[00:43:35] Speaker B: Yeah. What do you need?
Got plenty of. Plenty of stuff and pouches that I've collected over the years.
Yeah.
[00:43:43] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:43:45] Speaker B: Ooh, and they have candy too. We can put it in the candy.
[00:43:50] Speaker C: Yeah, grab a few.
A few things and mix them together.
[00:43:56] Speaker A: Okay. And how do you administer it to this, you know, dwarven veteran here? He's got a close cropped beard, a little uncommon for dwarves. His breath smells dank of ale. Is this like a potion?
[00:44:12] Speaker C: I like the idea of putting in candy.
[00:44:17] Speaker F: Here, let me catch it. Woohoo.
[00:44:22] Speaker C: Oh.
[00:44:22] Speaker B: Werther's Original. Delicious.
Yeah.
[00:44:26] Speaker A: Mmm.
[00:44:27] Speaker F: It tastes like caramel.
[00:44:31] Speaker A: Oh, my head.
[00:44:33] Speaker F: My head. It is clear but fuzzy at the same time.
[00:44:36] Speaker A: Same time what?
[00:44:39] Speaker F: What would you have me deliberate on? Eleg, half elf.
[00:44:45] Speaker D: Why don't you take a look at these documents and tell me what you know about them.
[00:44:50] Speaker F: Well, these are the names of the people we slaughtered.
[00:44:56] Speaker D: Who you slaughtered?
[00:44:58] Speaker F: I said we've done horrible things and I would be better to dead.
[00:45:04] Speaker D: Yeah, I know.
[00:45:06] Speaker F: Bidden in Lotmuro. The cleansing. The purge.
The hopeless ceremony of sacrifice. They're nobles, you see. Magic users.
[00:45:21] Speaker B: Look.
[00:45:22] Speaker F: The Black Arrow.
It is nothing more than a shade of the Wizards Guild.
[00:45:31] Speaker D: Hmm.
Why Were you guys sacrificing people all.
[00:45:36] Speaker F: To imitate the Freeze in Basel?
[00:45:41] Speaker B: The Freeze?
[00:45:43] Speaker C: Why these people?
[00:45:45] Speaker F: A hopeless reenactment of the past.
And I was led astray.
Things came to light, you know, that was searched for. Like your friend, he who calls himself Kaitoa.
And all you wild cards that seemed to upset whatever plot the Wizards Guild was hatching.
[00:46:14] Speaker B: What relation does the Wizards Guild have to the Black Arrow?
[00:46:17] Speaker F: If any One and the same.
After the Goblin wars, all the spymasters disbanded.
But beneath all the endings of kings and empires was a new sort of evil.
As I said before, it won't be long before the next war.
[00:46:49] Speaker D: That's quite a list of people you guys killed.
[00:46:52] Speaker F: Oh yes.
[00:46:55] Speaker B: Yeah, we do have the list.
Who had the ability to make these kind of things. Seeing as I'm assuming this wood is all tied into one another.
[00:47:06] Speaker F: Intertwined, you mean.
Boy.
Well, the Wizard's Guild might have the.
[00:47:13] Speaker A: Capability, but in this age they just.
[00:47:16] Speaker F: Make imitations of life.
Like my hollowed out scooped out sheer guardian. It was not as it was intended to be what we just fought. There was no Clay Golem.
It was a crude attempt at the majesty that were the real Clay Golems.
They rely on some alchemist. Wizard from Moe.
[00:47:56] Speaker D: Always has an alchemist.
[00:47:59] Speaker F: Oh, wizards. They refer to this master. They call him the Master of Moi.
[00:48:09] Speaker B: And he created working for the Wizards Guild, is he?
[00:48:15] Speaker F: My knowledge is this.
I was led to believe I could take possession of a true ancient warforged dragon slaying super soldier. And I was lied to.
[00:48:31] Speaker B: Hey, Steve.
[00:48:32] Speaker D: You know anything about the Master of Moi?
[00:48:36] Speaker B: I think I know somebody who could possibly take that title.
[00:48:40] Speaker D: Like potentially your mentor.
[00:48:43] Speaker B: Yeah, you've got a mentor.
It's a long story.
I don't. I don't know if we.
If.
[00:48:55] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:48:55] Speaker B: I don't know what to expect if we meet him. I know of him. I don't know what we'll get when we do meet him.
I think I'll be okay in the end in some way or another. But I can't say for the rest of you.
[00:49:09] Speaker D: Oh, not gonna stop me from wanting to go up there, that's for sure.
[00:49:14] Speaker B: No, especially now that Mickey's up there.
[00:49:17] Speaker D: Yeah, got Mickey and mem.
[00:49:20] Speaker B: I don't think we have the.
The time to travel by regular means.
[00:49:25] Speaker D: What would you suggest?
[00:49:28] Speaker C: Or the Kinku Tower.
[00:49:30] Speaker B: Yeah, we need to talk to Captain Kirk.
I'm sure Kirk is tied into however Emis and however Gurm got dematerialized.
Like. Yeah, we're probably gonna have to Meet this master of Moe, too.
[00:49:51] Speaker D: Well, he's probably at the Wizards Guild.
[00:49:54] Speaker B: Yeah, possibly. There's plenty to meet if we're gonna save.
We're gonna save Mammoth. We're gonna save Mickey.
[00:50:03] Speaker D: Yeah, it starts with the canku.
[00:50:06] Speaker C: Yeah, that's where we have to go.
[00:50:09] Speaker B: And we're bringing Old Foot with us?
[00:50:11] Speaker D: Yes, we are.
[00:50:13] Speaker B: Do we want him.
Do we want him as Caddy Oldfoot? Or do we want him as bring me my armor?
Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
[00:50:27] Speaker D: Bellak goes and grabs his armor.
[00:50:30] Speaker B: Bullfoot, do you want revenge?
[00:50:33] Speaker F: I want nothing more than to die and to join my wife and children, slain and waiting for me in the afterlife. I see now that my hopelessness was misplaced. There is still hope in the world.
I want something to wield, though.
[00:51:02] Speaker D: We can try and stop by the wizard and spear to see if we can get in there. Now, it's been a few days.
The spell should have worn off that was keeping us out of there.
[00:51:13] Speaker B: Yeah, I mean, if Rook. If Rook comes back, he maybe will lend you something.
[00:51:17] Speaker A: Okay, Zozo, you realize they're talking about breaking into the wizard mems shop, which you have definitely been into a many times. Your good friend of the wizard, Mem in town.
[00:51:33] Speaker D: Oh, I didn't know you knew mem.
[00:51:37] Speaker C: Just as a. You know, a patron of their establishment.
[00:51:42] Speaker B: It's not theft if we're using the items that we potentially take to help him keep his life.
[00:51:50] Speaker D: No, I don't view this as theft at all.
[00:51:51] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah, it's a fair trade.
[00:51:54] Speaker D: Should we go there now?
[00:51:56] Speaker B: Take his stuff?
[00:51:58] Speaker C: Let's do it. Yeah.
[00:51:59] Speaker D: All right.
[00:52:01] Speaker B: You ready to die in blazing glory there, Oldfoot?
[00:52:05] Speaker F: I want nothing more than a glorious death.
[00:52:12] Speaker D: Have we put Oldfoot back in his armor?
[00:52:15] Speaker A: Well, you have exited the third floor. Just quick check on the roughly 4000 HP. Where'd you leave that?
[00:52:24] Speaker B: In the chest? Yeah, that's gonna go. Oh, God. There's Barf in there. Now.
[00:52:30] Speaker C: The lockbox, and then there's the chest.
[00:52:32] Speaker B: At least if anyone gets into the mimic chest while we're away, maybe the stench will keep them from opening up a little. So, yeah, can we. Can we just set everything back the way we found it?
Put the. Put the crate back on top of the chest, kind of get it all locked up back up to.
[00:52:49] Speaker A: You can.
And you hear Zozo exclaim, well, there's the box and then there's the chest. And that's true. The gold and paper box was not vomited in. So are you putting it all back like so. Now there's also a vomit trap.
[00:53:06] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah, it's pretty funky.
[00:53:09] Speaker A: Oh, and the mimic closes. And I sure hope you've stayed as Bartio.
[00:53:14] Speaker B: Yes, I have remained.
[00:53:17] Speaker A: Oh, what does it say? Oh, it's brass eye clasps shut, and you feel it lock itself tight. Tighter than a drum.
And what do you say to reassure this that you're Bartio?
[00:53:30] Speaker B: Remember, Box, I shaved my mustache this way.
It's a new look. A new Bartillo.
This way. And I make a mental note of the partillo that I created.
[00:53:48] Speaker A: It's somehow creepy. Like everything you say is Bartillo.
Remember, Box, look at my mustache.
[00:53:54] Speaker B: I shave it this way. Like, what the hell?
The new Vartio.
[00:54:00] Speaker A: Okay, the box is complacent, shuts, and it seems dormant. You know, it shuts down. And now, as you guys exit the third floor and you have given the opportunity for Engo to reattach to his shield guardian armor.
[00:54:18] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:54:27] Speaker F: Let'S go crush something.
[00:54:32] Speaker B: All right, we gotta.
[00:54:33] Speaker D: Let's go to the wizard and spirit.
[00:54:35] Speaker B: We gotta raise. Oh, yeah, we gotta get some weapons. Let's get strapped up first. Oh, Rob, while they're. While we're kind of getting him in his suit, Steve's gonna restring that eager shortpo.
[00:54:49] Speaker A: Okay, you would have. Was that on your list from the cross axis?
[00:54:54] Speaker B: Yeah, and I've got a couple backup strings as well.
[00:54:58] Speaker D: Nice.
[00:54:59] Speaker A: So you've restrung that, you know, and I think that.
Did you guys get your hour rest?
[00:55:07] Speaker D: I don't think so.
[00:55:10] Speaker A: Were you mechanically needing to regain anything with that short rest, Bellog?
[00:55:16] Speaker D: I could use the extra spell slot, that's for sure.
[00:55:19] Speaker A: Well, then you guys could say that you've spent two hours doing this whole thing and you'd regain spell slots. Or you can say you've spent one hour triaging the people investigating the chest. Everything.
[00:55:32] Speaker D: If we're going to meet Kenku and then head into heading up to the wizards guild after that, then I would like to say we use two powers.
[00:55:44] Speaker B: If the Kanku does have some way of teleporting us, we're. We're going by their terms. So there's.
[00:55:51] Speaker D: I want my spell slots.
[00:55:53] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:55:54] Speaker D: Yeah, okay. Yeah, okay.
[00:55:56] Speaker B: Short rest.
[00:55:57] Speaker C: And I can use a short rest to. To make a infuse a potion.
[00:56:03] Speaker D: Oh, sweet.
[00:56:04] Speaker B: Steve's gonna stay in the danger room after he strung a shortbow, and I'm gonna test it out for its efficiency. Is it the same shortbow that I had?
[00:56:15] Speaker A: Oh, very clever, Steve. Zozo, what are you preparing And Steve. No, it is not.
[00:56:21] Speaker B: What?
No.
[00:56:24] Speaker A: You feel like this is lacking the ability to give you advantage on all rolls. It is still that plus one, but the magic filament is missing.
You have not been able to replace this with an army surplus string.
[00:56:46] Speaker B: It was the string all along that had all the magic in.
[00:56:52] Speaker D: Wasn't you, Steve? It was the string.
[00:56:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
Well, where am I going to get magic string?
[00:57:05] Speaker D: The wizard skill.
[00:57:07] Speaker B: Steve has a little bit of a fit in the danger room. Knives are thrown accurately. Yeah. Yeah. Well, at this point, there's like. I just envision that room to be like. There's just knives everywhere.
Knives and sharp things that are stuck in the wall. And my name is being scratched into everything.
[00:57:28] Speaker D: Steve was here and also here. And Steve was here.
[00:57:32] Speaker B: Yeah. It's like. It's like that teenager that has figured out that they can take, like a sharpie to anything so that his name's on, like, his tags on the bus. It's on like the.
It's just like in his room, he's got little books. Like, all his books have his, like, little tag in the. Like, he's kind of basically just done that to everything.
Oh, fuck is.
Oh.
[00:57:54] Speaker D: Whoa.
Hello. Last page of my notebook. Gonna have to get one of those.
[00:57:59] Speaker A: Oh, wow. That's impressive. Well, party, are you exiting down the front? At the front, it is well tarped, and it seems like the bodies have been removed. The meat Wagoneers obviously stopped and also removed your casualties from your employee roster.
[00:58:19] Speaker C: I'm gonna make a shatter potion.
[00:58:21] Speaker F: Sweet.
[00:58:22] Speaker A: What does that do?
[00:58:25] Speaker C: That. It infuses the spell shatter into a potion.
So when the bottle is broken, the spell shatter will be cast. At that point.
[00:58:39] Speaker B: Can you attach that shatter bottle to the end of this arrow?
[00:58:44] Speaker C: I think we probably could do that if we. I mean, we might need to spend a little time on it, but yeah.
[00:58:50] Speaker B: Let'S think about it. I like the idea of that.
Your potions, my method of delivery. I think we can really figure something out here.
[00:59:02] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:59:03] Speaker B: Can you fix this short bow? It sucks right now. I want it better.
The magic bow string is broken.
[00:59:12] Speaker C: If I cast mending.
[00:59:15] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:59:19] Speaker A: Very interesting. Cast mending on the string. Yeah. You know, as you guys, you new friends come out the front door of the white chain, you know, the frame is the only thing that remains. And you're talking about. Maybe you could mend my bow roll initiative.
There are two swarms of ravens attacking the party of three.
[00:59:50] Speaker D: No, that's a 19 for Bellic.
[00:59:53] Speaker A: Okay. 12. 18 come from right in your face. They seem to have been waiting outside on the window sills. And then 12 swoop across from the square at terrifying speed.
[01:00:07] Speaker E: They're going for beak attacks.
[01:00:10] Speaker B: Steve has got a 19 plus three, so 22.
[01:00:13] Speaker C: And I got an eight.
[01:00:15] Speaker D: 18. 19 and 22. Those are some pretty good initiative rules.
[01:00:19] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:00:20] Speaker D: Robin, Roberto.
[01:00:22] Speaker A: 18.
[01:00:24] Speaker C: Yep.
[01:00:25] Speaker A: That is the best you have rolled on initiative, Zozo. You are starting to feel the thrill of battle.
19 was Belling. 22 is Steve.
[01:00:37] Speaker B: Yeah. And then I guess Solas is still around, because I had never. Yep.
Zoned him out.
He is a 16 plus 2. 18.
[01:00:49] Speaker D: Okay, roll up.
[01:00:54] Speaker A: I got two swarms of ravens, and you know, they didn't roll well, but guess what. The first swarm of ravens surprised you. So none of you will be able to act in initiative. The first round, you will take the beaks unless anybody has some sort of reaction that is applicable even in this surprise state. I don't know.
[01:01:20] Speaker D: I don't think so.
[01:01:25] Speaker C: Here we go.
[01:01:26] Speaker B: I think. I think. I don't think I've got anything against.
[01:01:30] Speaker D: Yeah, everything I have is an action, a reaction.
[01:01:35] Speaker B: No, I don't think I've got anything that keeps me from being surprised.
[01:01:39] Speaker A: Okay, we're checking in on armor class.
Hey, Zozo, my Armor class is 14.
Okay, you feel beaks now being confounded by your parrying off of their blows. Oh, but not the third one.
You take six damage.
[01:02:02] Speaker C: Oh, the first damage.
[01:02:04] Speaker A: I've taken beleg time to check in on that AC 16.
Oh, 13.
No, that's not gonna work.
Beleg you fend off three or four of these. First wave of beak attacks, Steve. Checking in.
[01:02:22] Speaker B: 1711.
[01:02:25] Speaker A: That's not even close.
Again, Steve.
[01:02:28] Speaker F: No problem.
[01:02:29] Speaker A: So the first wave of 12 seems to have gone kind of roughly four on each three of you.
Blood on the beaks around Zozo.
[01:02:41] Speaker D: How you feeling, Zozo?
[01:02:45] Speaker C: Why'd they have to get me with the beaks?
[01:02:47] Speaker B: Secure your cousins.
[01:02:53] Speaker D: They know your weak spots.
[01:03:03] Speaker B: All right. These guys getting daggers.
[01:03:04] Speaker A: Steve, you are at the top of the order as the second wave is literally bearing down on you. And the first wave, they haven't left at all. All of them have grouped into four, and they are around each of you. You're surrounded.
[01:03:24] Speaker B: So the first. The. The first wave have acted. I need to attack the second wave in order to get my. The ones that have not acted yet. Okay, those are the ones that are gonna eat it.
[01:03:35] Speaker A: Oh, they're black flapping wings all around you, but yes. So you're attacking the ones that have yet to attack.
[01:03:42] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah, if they. If they haven't acted yet, then that's when I get all my bonuses.
So game wise, I assume they're. They're acting as a pack. So you just attack the. The mob, so to speak.
[01:03:56] Speaker A: That's correct.
[01:03:57] Speaker B: You attack the pack.
How many. How many groups have not acted yet?
[01:04:04] Speaker A: One group.
[01:04:06] Speaker D: Rob, would I have gotten a pact of opportunity on any of the groups that came into my range because they entered your range? Yeah, that's my polearm mastery.
[01:04:19] Speaker A: Yes. So that. That's the sort of outlier question that I was probing for before, which is, does anything. Let's look into that.
[01:04:27] Speaker D: Yeah, I just. I just thought of it now.
[01:04:30] Speaker A: So you're asking, does a surprise attack provoke Pam.
Polearm mastery. Attacks of opportunity.
Okay, here we go.
[01:04:38] Speaker D: Or if the other groups. There's two groups, right? If the other group is also around me. Yeah, within 10.
[01:04:44] Speaker A: Those ones. Those ones you'll probably get. Okay. But it looks here like no surprise specifically will not trigger an attack of opportunity, because that's the definition of surprise.
[01:04:54] Speaker B: Cool.
[01:04:55] Speaker A: But there is some. There is some hot debate about it.
[01:04:58] Speaker D: I believe that.
[01:05:00] Speaker A: All right, Steve, swarm of ravens.
[01:05:05] Speaker B: Yeah. First attack is 16 plus three.
So 19 to hit.
[01:05:10] Speaker A: That hits.
[01:05:12] Speaker B: All right.
That is, of course, with the sharpshooter shot.
So that is roll with advantage. I get the sneak attack dagger. So that's 3 plus 15, 18 damage.
[01:05:31] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:05:33] Speaker B: And then the second attack, the same pack.
So that is a 15 plus three for 18 to hit.
[01:05:43] Speaker A: Total to hit above 12.
[01:05:46] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah. That's a roll of 18 to hit.
And that is another 18 damage.
[01:05:54] Speaker C: Okay.
[01:05:55] Speaker B: And then the last attack, I assume they're still. They're still going.
[01:06:00] Speaker A: You have taken out, at this point, one half of the first swarm of ravens.
[01:06:05] Speaker B: All right, So I got one more attack to go, and that is a 19 to hit.
[01:06:12] Speaker A: That hits.
[01:06:14] Speaker B: That is 16 more damage.
Whoa.
[01:06:19] Speaker A: And now only definitely will. Less than half of the swarm remains.
[01:06:26] Speaker B: Okay. And I'll throw my offhand.
And that is a 14 plus three. So 17 to hit.
[01:06:36] Speaker A: Whoa, guys. Steve is like a. Sorry, guys and gals. Steve is like a whirlwind juggler.
[01:06:47] Speaker D: His bow doesn't work anymore.
[01:06:50] Speaker B: That's 11 more damage.
[01:06:53] Speaker A: Well, there is only one solitary raven left in this swarm. And you feel, Steve, that now this swarm of ravens will be probably attacking with half of its hit dice.
[01:07:09] Speaker B: Yay.
[01:07:10] Speaker A: But that's all that remains. Then, Steve, you have decimated the second wave.
[01:07:15] Speaker B: Sweet.
I've used my bonus for the offhand, so that is.
That's pretty much it beleg.
[01:07:23] Speaker A: You are up, and there is a swarm of ravens about you and Zozo and Steve.
[01:07:32] Speaker D: All right, they're all right around me.
[01:07:35] Speaker A: They are flapping around you, cawing in your face.
[01:07:40] Speaker D: All right, I'm gonna try and double Eldritch, blast them.
[01:07:45] Speaker A: Okay, you're just targeting the swarm of ravens. They are a singular entity. They are a medium swarm of tiny beasts unaligned.
[01:07:53] Speaker D: Yep, yep.
First roll is 15 on AC.
[01:08:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:08:04] Speaker A: Blasting.
[01:08:06] Speaker D: Second roll is 16 on AC again.
All right, so that's nine damage, and they get blasted back 20ft.
[01:08:18] Speaker A: Okay, they get blasted back in the air, but they're by no means, you know, prone in any way. But they're no longer around the party. You've just put some distance there, Belak, and dealt some damage.
[01:08:32] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:08:33] Speaker A: Anything else in your move? Zozo, you're on deck.
[01:08:37] Speaker D: Nope, that's my move.
[01:08:40] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:08:41] Speaker A: Dr. Zozo, the black wings are pushed back, and you have respite from the claws and the talons and the bloody beaks.
[01:08:51] Speaker C: Since there's some distance between us now, I'm gonna throw some alchemical fire at them.
[01:08:55] Speaker B: You can.
[01:08:58] Speaker C: Reach into my pack, grab a couple pouches of ingredients, and mix them up into a vial and toss them at the ravens.
[01:09:06] Speaker A: A viciously quick reaction. Okay, so you toss this thing.
Do you toss. Is this an area of effect?
[01:09:15] Speaker C: Yes.
[01:09:16] Speaker A: Okay, they're within your. They've been blasted back. What about like, 20ft?
[01:09:22] Speaker C: Yep.
[01:09:22] Speaker A: This is a very easy shot.
[01:09:25] Speaker C: Yeah.
Okay, well, yeah, I have to. I can target within 15ft. So I'll move 5ft and then toss it.
[01:09:32] Speaker A: Oh, nice. Okay, well, guys, you see the she owl, aarakocra. Take, like, a couple huge leaps up, and she almost becomes airborne on the third leap and just hucks this thing.
[01:09:46] Speaker C: Okay, so the creatures can make dexterity saving throw.
[01:09:50] Speaker A: Okay. Versus.
[01:09:52] Speaker B: Yeah, we.
[01:09:54] Speaker A: Dex. Plus two and has 10. Plus two. So I got 12.
[01:10:01] Speaker C: It doesn't say in here. I think we. This last time I didn't.
[01:10:05] Speaker D: What's your spell save? Dc?
[01:10:07] Speaker A: 10 plus your spell save, which is your int, which was 4, which was 14.
[01:10:13] Speaker C: Yeah. Right.
[01:10:14] Speaker A: So you're like a.
[01:10:15] Speaker B: You're like a.
[01:10:16] Speaker A: Beat the 14 Spellcaster DC.
[01:10:19] Speaker C: Yeah. Okay, I did.
[01:10:21] Speaker A: I did not. I got 12.
[01:10:23] Speaker C: All right, so they are going to take two D. Eight plus four. So five. So that is nine.
Nine damage.
Nine fire damage.
[01:10:37] Speaker A: Can you describe the scene as you catch the entire flock in the alchemical fire?
[01:10:44] Speaker C: I think it probably. Well, the bottle shatters when it hits the first raven, and it bursts into Just a fireball.
I think I said it was purple fire.
And then it just engulfs all of them, and they're all flapping around, bur.
[01:11:12] Speaker A: Oh, it is terrible. The purple flame takes their black feathers alight, and you're dealing damage to the group. And they've already been dealt a fair bit of damage from the blast. And what was your total damage on this?
9.
Okay, that's calculator time. You see, they're only a of piece appear to be. What would that be?
Three solitary ravens left of this group.
[01:11:44] Speaker C: Okay.
I don't think I have any. Any bonus actions or anything to do with a bonus action.
So that'll be end of my turn.
[01:11:57] Speaker A: Okay. And Dr. Zozo, being out on the front ranks, you feel retribution.
14 plus 2.
Is that over your AC?
[01:12:13] Speaker C: Yes, it is.
[01:12:14] Speaker A: You're gonna feel a beak, buddy. But this is not the 2D6 from before. This is 1D6, because the swarm is certainly less than half their health.
Here we go. Hail four.
[01:12:27] Speaker C: Four. Okay.
[01:12:29] Speaker A: And a beak makes it past your defenses and your robes. Unfortunately, you are stopped again.
The second swarm is no more, and we're at the top of the order. Steve, you have seen Zozo again.
[01:12:49] Speaker F: Shed blood.
[01:12:51] Speaker B: Oh, did you.
Did Stolas get a.
Oh.
[01:12:56] Speaker A: Nine. Seven. Where's Dolas?
[01:12:59] Speaker B: He was 18 as well.
[01:13:01] Speaker A: Oh, he was 18 with Zozo. Oh, then he came before the beak attack.
Okay, Stolas, where were you?
[01:13:12] Speaker B: Well, he was. I guess he was sitting on Steve's shoulders or just hanging around Steve. Anyway, in this case, I guess he's gonna fly up to the remainder of that pack that Steve attacked and just.
[01:13:29] Speaker A: Mess with them aid in the help action. Okay, well, we'll say this then. I will give. Because in this moment, there's a flurry of wings. Stolas joins in with the beak salt around Zozo. And that's how we'll just blend their sort of initiative together. Apologies from the dm. You have the help action there. And Zozo, I'll half that damage.
[01:13:57] Speaker C: Okay.
[01:13:58] Speaker A: It is retroactive help that Stolas offered.
[01:14:03] Speaker C: All right?
Stick together.
[01:14:06] Speaker B: Yeah. Team Owl. Yeah.
Yeah.
[01:14:12] Speaker A: Well, it seems like Stolas took out one of this. Yeah, there's only, you know, one quarter of this swarm remaining, Steve. And you've seen your al familiar pull off one of the angry beaks that was sure to deal a blow.
[01:14:28] Speaker B: Just a solid wing buffet. Okay, well, I guess the. The pack that's attacking, so I wanna. I want to clear them out now that it doesn't really matter who I'm attacking.
Yeah, I'm gonna. I'm gonna throw some daggers at them.
Warm swarm. First one out.
That's gonna hit. That's an 18 plus three, definitely.
And then I'm gonna add the sneak attack because they're within five feet of Zozo, I believe.
Yes, they are attacking distance. Okay, so that's 4 plus 13. 17 damage.
Yep.
They're still there.
[01:15:15] Speaker A: Nope, Nope.
[01:15:17] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:15:22] Speaker A: Your last two daggers have pinned the final animals here, and none remain any second squad.
That is all.
[01:15:34] Speaker B: Oh, that's it.
[01:15:39] Speaker A: One remained from the second squad, right, Steve?
[01:15:43] Speaker B: Yes. Yeah, from the first attack.
[01:15:45] Speaker A: And the swarm can move through any opening large enough for a tiny raven.
And you see that raven taken off.
[01:15:56] Speaker B: Oh, it's dead. I want to kill it.
Can I. Is it still within range?
[01:16:01] Speaker A: Into the third floor of the white chain.
And it has disappeared into the eaves, you know, quick as a tiny little black shadow.
And that is what the swarm, that second wave, does with the end of its move.
[01:16:21] Speaker B: Can I see it with darkvision in the shadows?
[01:16:26] Speaker A: Let's see. As you look up yet. It's bright here. The rain has totally dissipated over the last half hour. 45 minutes that you guys were inside. And so as you look up, it is hard to adjust to the darkness under the eaves, but you can tell. Ah, it's found its way into the. Not the white chain, Steve, for sure.
[01:16:52] Speaker B: I want to. I don't want it to get back to its master.
I definitely want to keep some element of surprise.
[01:17:01] Speaker D: Did Beleg see where it went in?
[01:17:04] Speaker A: I would say, unless your focus was elsewhere. Zozo and Beleg, you know, all of you were tracking the remnants of this initiative, and you are now out of initiative. You decimated what, all of these rather large and fierce black ravens. Their black feathers are still kind of floating in the air and settling on the ground.
[01:17:27] Speaker D: Yes.
[01:17:28] Speaker A: All of you see, it went up into the chain.
[01:17:31] Speaker D: I want to cast dimension door and appear in the place that I like.
If I see its trajectory and I see its speed, I want to anticipate where it's going to be cast dimension door and see if I can teleport in front of the raven so I can kill it.
[01:17:46] Speaker C: And I'm gonna fly up to where it entered behind it.
[01:17:51] Speaker D: So we're gonna try and pinch it so it's got nowhere to go.
[01:17:54] Speaker A: Okay, sounds good. Sounds good.
[01:17:55] Speaker B: I also want to pinch it, but with my knife.
[01:17:59] Speaker A: Okay, so we have Zozo flying up. Bella, you're gonna dimension door directly to where you think, well, they are clearly going this small raven to the third floor. They're going in through the ruined second floor. There they go behind the tarp that has been put up. And you can imagine their trajectory is leading them up.
[01:18:18] Speaker D: Yeah. So I want to intercept them.
[01:18:21] Speaker A: Okay, Dr. Zozo, you appear then at the third floor window. You have just seen Beleg warp into the space. And then. Steve, are you. How are you getting up there? You were just running through the building?
[01:18:38] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm doing my parkour.
[01:18:43] Speaker D: Old foot sure was useless in that fight.
[01:18:46] Speaker A: He did not even make it out of the building.
I said the crows attack you three.
And you.
[01:18:57] Speaker D: He's the fourth pinch point.
[01:19:00] Speaker A: He's still down there. And you have Steve. Then a small disadvantage then on making it up there, because Belega and Dr. Zozo, you have cornered a large raven.
[01:19:18] Speaker D: Do we roll initiative or do I just start blasting?
[01:19:24] Speaker A: And that, friends and adventurers, is where we'll have to leave you tonight. Until the next time on Dungeons and Blackguards. Thanks so much for.
[01:19:32] Speaker B: What's the bird? What's in the bird?
[01:19:39] Speaker A: Always. Hey, thank you so much for coming tonight, guys. That was a lot of fun.
[01:19:45] Speaker D: Yeah, that was fun.
[01:19:47] Speaker B: Very happy to get some game time in.
[01:19:50] Speaker D: Yeah. Got to roll some dice.
[01:19:52] Speaker B: Yeah. Yeah.
[01:19:54] Speaker A: Well, yeah. You know, Rook is in this moment, by the way. I should say. I should say, as you corner the black bird, you hear the angelic orc snores of Rook in his cot, and you're reminded of the statuesque Kaitoa guarding the foyer with Oldfoot.
And that, friends and adventurers, is where we'll leave you tonight.
