Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: Welcome, friends and adventurers to another episode of Dungeons and Blaggers. I am the dungeon master, Robulon. Joining me in no particular order, are the players and their level seven characters.
[00:00:20] Speaker B: Tomo.
[00:00:22] Speaker A: Hey, I'm Steve Toman.
[00:00:24] Speaker B: Human Gloomstalker Ranger, Level 5 Rogue, Level.
[00:00:28] Speaker A: 1 Fighter, Level 1. Caleb Kaito.
[00:00:33] Speaker B: Etata, Level 7, Warforged Barbarian.
[00:00:38] Speaker A: Brandon.
[00:00:40] Speaker B: I'm Ikaru Poonschlay. Level 7 Blood Hunter, Half Orc. Darklord Brayden.
Hey, I'm Beleg Dagar. I'm half elf. Hexblade Warlock, level seven. I'm not a dark lord.
[00:01:02] Speaker A: Well, half elf, you're walking up the stairs. You have left that moment where the party had not really acknowledged your great transformation into Kaitoa. So, you know you are walking up stairs. What are you thinking about as you hit the sack and take off your adventurer's gear?
[00:01:28] Speaker B: Well, I don't think I'm thinking about a whole lot considering the the day we just had.
I'm trying to do my best to turn my brain off. Beleg is trying to conk the fuck out because he's exhausted.
[00:01:45] Speaker A: And you do. So can you roll a constitution check.
[00:01:53] Speaker B: That's a nat 20.
[00:01:56] Speaker A: That is so narratively perfect.
Can you describe how awesome and cinematic and perfect it is as your head hits the pillow?
[00:02:10] Speaker B: Oh, it's a straight walk.
There's the the classic get home drunk and go straight to bed. Trail of boots and garments from my door all the way to the bed. And Belik just lets his knees hit the side of the bed and the momentum of his upper body go forward and just flat on his face conks. One of those conks where he falls flat on his face and falls asleep immediately and just like feels like he's falling, just melts into the bed.
[00:02:44] Speaker A: And the deep embrace of slumber is immediate for Beleg d'gar, half elf, Warlock.
The sound of water is all around you, filling your shapely ears. Beleg, you're opening your eyes. It's immediate to change around you. You are back in front of the ruins of Tomber.
[00:03:22] Speaker B: It's not my first rodeo.
I know what I'm about to be in for.
Sigh and put my head down and walk forward into the ruins.
[00:03:38] Speaker A: Can you roll a perception as you approach the ruins?
[00:03:45] Speaker B: That is a 13.
[00:03:50] Speaker A: All right. You'll recall the last time you were here, the waterfalls had flooded part of the entrance. You got your boots wet. Well, this time there is a ton more water broke present. In fact, the entrance is submerged. As you walk gingerly towards the entrance to These ancient ruins, their true age is now revealed. Most of the year they are underwater. Beleg Dagar.
[00:04:26] Speaker B: Oh, shit. Completely submerged, eh?
[00:04:30] Speaker A: Well, let's see. As you look down, it's probably about a 2 to 3 meter dive down to get to where, you know, is that entrance chamber which then leads to a corridor that leads left and right and then to the chamber, you know.
[00:04:48] Speaker B: Well, yeah, little training chamber.
[00:04:53] Speaker A: As the light streams through the trees. Yes, Beleg. It is now a different time of year than the last time you visited this place. In your mind.
[00:05:09] Speaker B: What time of year does it look like?
[00:05:12] Speaker A: It is certainly the spring flood, you know, leading to the bounty of summer. And as you look down, there is tons of light, you know, in your vision, in your dream here. Beleg. It appears to be the early morning and it is clear water down to the submerged entrance.
[00:05:44] Speaker B: Try and swim down to it.
[00:05:48] Speaker A: What is your swimming speed?
[00:05:53] Speaker B: What is it? Half your movement speed.
[00:05:58] Speaker A: Right, so can you roll an athletics and then we'll roll a constitution at the end of the athletics role.
[00:06:07] Speaker B: All right.
Was an 18 plus 4, 22.
The con wasn't nearly as good. The con was 75 plus 2. The athletics was great though.
[00:06:19] Speaker A: Wow.
Well, you are a keen diver apparently, I guess. And can you describe how you crack into the bubbling water? Because you're sort of, you know, you're diving into this pool that, you know, isn't here most of the year and waterfalls are all around you. Yeah. Just describe how you crack on in and I'm going to take that as a cue. You.
[00:06:52] Speaker B: Both hands forward. Not much of a jump, more of like a, a graceful fall and then bone straight, nice and lean.
Very arrow or water dynamic hydrodynamic.
[00:07:08] Speaker A: Well, you have taken a large gulp of water as you cracked the surface of the water here. And so as you go down, although you are strong swimmer and your dive was proficient and you are now at the entrance to the stone, curved stone archway here. You can feel that you have sort of less air than you would like. And so now you are about as deep as you might go. And now you must swim another 10 or 15ft along the corridor. Beleg. It is all submerged.
[00:07:54] Speaker B: I dive down, I rotate, so I'm going feet first and I try and plant off of, you know, any hard solid object and push off into the. The direction of the corridor.
[00:08:10] Speaker A: Oh, very nice.
I will give you a 5 modifier or rather you've sort of slashed -5 off the DC. You feel yourself surging along and whoa, watch out there. Beleg. Can you roll a Dexterity saving throw.
[00:08:30] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:08:31] Speaker A: There is the ceiling. And there is the corner of the hallway. You have gone awfully fast.
[00:08:39] Speaker B: That is 13 plus 3. So 16.
[00:08:44] Speaker A: 16. Did you add your floppy wizard hat?
[00:08:48] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. It would be a 15 without the wizard hat.
[00:08:51] Speaker A: And it was a good turn of events as you pushed yourself along, boy. You just had enough breath to make it to the t junction between the corridor to the left and to the right and. But now beleg.
As you kind of swirl around, although the water is clear, and because of the way these ruins, you know, open up between the roots of trees, there is sunlight streaming in here and there.
Where will you go? There is a choice.
[00:09:25] Speaker B: Quickly, My choice.
Left or right.
[00:09:31] Speaker A: Yes. You are virtually out of air, though. Beleg. I'm not sure what you're gonna do here as the clock is ticking.
[00:09:38] Speaker B: Oh, shit. I don't remember where it was. Right.
[00:09:43] Speaker A: Okay. Are you trying to just swim the rest of the way to the right, just blindly.
[00:09:52] Speaker B: The right and like, stop? I suppose.
[00:09:56] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:09:56] Speaker B: Just in case there's an air bubble.
[00:09:59] Speaker A: Your heart pounding is in your ears and in your head, and your lungs are bursting.
And finally, you have broken the surface of the water, but you have also broken the skin along your forehead, because as you surged upwards, thank goodness, you did put the effort in to.
To get some air. But you hit the jagged, rocky ceiling of the chamber of Anun Sewa.
[00:10:40] Speaker B: Oh, ouch.
Well, that's a fun feeling. Little warm blood trickle on the cool water.
Can I see the whole chamber beneath me?
[00:10:58] Speaker A: You can. It is as you remember it. And because of the water dynamics here, this chamber is caught in a pressure bubble, although all around it, you know, you perceive it is well under water.
It is dry. And there is air here that seems to be filtering through the roots from above.
[00:11:28] Speaker B: Okay.
I look around for anansaywar Kellan.
[00:11:35] Speaker A: It is silent. It seems like a long time passes. Beleg. A very long time. In your mind, it's passing very slowly or quickly. It's hard to tell.
There is no answer. But your mind is reeling and your knees begin to sort of feel weak, as if you've been standing for a long time.
[00:12:01] Speaker B: Ugh. I don't want to be here at all. That leg's not having fun.
Whole goal was just to get this over with.
Where are you?
[00:12:12] Speaker C: Watch over with.
[00:12:16] Speaker B: You know, the imbuing me with new power.
Our fun little nightmare dance that we like to do every once in a while.
[00:12:28] Speaker C: Funny we should say nightmare.
[00:12:34] Speaker B: I guess at this point it's just kind of a dream. I Know what's happening doesn't have the same terrifying effects as it used to.
[00:12:45] Speaker C: Do we know what's happening in a dream any more than life?
[00:12:52] Speaker B: I suppose not, oh, wise one.
[00:12:56] Speaker C: I'm not wise. I am just a repository of stories.
But there's no me. And there's no you. Only we.
So where do you travel, Blade traveler?
[00:13:18] Speaker B: Oh, I'm assuming you're referring to my fun new dimension door trips.
[00:13:28] Speaker C: I can see lots now that you've brought me with you.
[00:13:35] Speaker B: Pretty fun adventures, eh?
[00:13:37] Speaker C: It's not the plane that I was thinking of.
[00:13:44] Speaker B: What plane were you thinking of?
[00:13:47] Speaker C: You've already said it.
[00:13:52] Speaker B: Dream plane.
[00:13:56] Speaker A: Beleg. I will award you inspiration.
[00:13:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:14:02] Speaker C: It is the easiest to visit.
[00:14:07] Speaker B: And.
[00:14:07] Speaker C: Where we can die and live a thousand years.
[00:14:17] Speaker B: I was hoping that this visit wouldn't take a thousand years.
[00:14:21] Speaker A: Beleg as you say that the blood drips from your forehead gash on to the floor. In the chamber of Ananseywa, whom do you seek?
[00:14:41] Speaker B: Oh, seek Buddy Callan.
[00:14:47] Speaker C: Martial prowess.
Very well.
[00:14:56] Speaker A: And there is a echoing of the voice of Anansiwa now that precedes the entrance of the colorful but tiny Kellan. And in the corner of your eye there is movement. Beleg I look over there he is blue and neon and yellow and speckled purple. He is dazzling. There is a small.
It looks like a cut on Kellan as well. Across his front part of spider.
Ah, yes, Head.
[00:15:41] Speaker B: His front part.
[00:15:42] Speaker A: His. His head portion.
[00:15:44] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah.
Like mirrored. The mirror of my cut.
[00:15:50] Speaker A: It would seem so. And beleg as you notice that you begin shrinking down, down, down.
[00:16:00] Speaker B: I reach out and summon my glaive.
[00:16:03] Speaker A: And as you summon your glaive in this moment, you know it is taken w with you quickly into your miniaturized form here. And the world swirls about you. Large. You are now reduced to the size of Kellan. And he approaches you wielding his four limbs above his head like windmills.
[00:16:34] Speaker B: I start doing similar movements to what we did the last time when we did kind of a dance back and forth.
And I give them a nod.
[00:16:47] Speaker A: You see a glimmer of recognition in these eight glassy eyes, Beleg. But the moves that you are attempting are quickly overpowered by this windmill effect.
[00:17:07] Speaker B: It's pushing me back.
[00:17:10] Speaker A: Yes. Your glaive is struck from your hands and you are knocked backwards.
[00:17:20] Speaker B: Where'd my glaive land?
[00:17:22] Speaker A: It has clattered on the floor. And as you look up towards Kellan, he is preparing another assault.
[00:17:31] Speaker B: I use my blade pact feature and resummon my blade into my hand as quickly as I Can. So it like disappears into the ether and then appears in my hand again.
[00:17:46] Speaker A: Your glaive rematerializes in your hand and you managed to parry this assault, but you are still prone and on your back. And he is on top of you, pinning you and simultaneously raising his limbs for another whirlwind assault aimed directly, you know, at your weapon and your defensive.
[00:18:11] Speaker B: I cast dimension door fall into the floor and then appear behind him.
[00:18:20] Speaker A: You are momentarily surrounded by dirt and roots and you feel very cold and wet. But then there is Kellan standing 10ft in front of you. It has been successful.
[00:18:41] Speaker B: I go into my fighting stance as if I were preparing for him to come at me and use my polearm mastery opportunity attack.
[00:18:53] Speaker A: Okay. At the moment you have the element of surprise.
[00:18:58] Speaker B: Then I cast an eldritch blast and try and knock him 10ft away.
[00:19:05] Speaker A: Okay. Beleg. As you point your finger at Kellan, he turns around just to receive your eldritch blast and he is absolutely blown backwards by it against the chamber wall. His eight legs he'll crumple against the wall and now he falls onto the ground. But he's up again. Oh, quick as a nightmare. He is skittering up towards you and he digs both of his front incisors right into your chest.
[00:19:47] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:19:47] Speaker A: I swing my blade at him as you helplessly swing.
Blood pours from these wounds and you swoon. Beleg and all is red black as you in vain push and slice away.
Can you roll a death saving throw?
[00:20:15] Speaker B: Yeah, that's a 19.
[00:20:22] Speaker A: That's a success.
[00:20:26] Speaker B: I shall mark it on my carrot.
[00:20:28] Speaker A: Beleague degar.
Kellan. The spider enters the room and you shrink downwards, downwards, downwards to meet him in size.
[00:20:43] Speaker B: And nod again.
Get ready.
[00:20:47] Speaker A: There's a glimmer of recognition in the eight black glassy eyes. And now you are again reduced to the size of the fighting colorful sp wider.
[00:21:02] Speaker B: I try and throw a eldritch blast at him right away before he can get his windmills going.
[00:21:09] Speaker A: Okay, can you.
[00:21:10] Speaker B: That seemed to work well.
[00:21:11] Speaker A: Can you roll two D20 with your normal modifiers?
[00:21:16] Speaker B: Yep.
That's a 16 plus 6. So 226 plus 6 12.
[00:21:27] Speaker A: There is a almost deja vu like effect here, Bellak. You blast him back to the wall and his legs curl and crumple.
But just as he hits the ground, you remember the dash and the fang move.
[00:21:54] Speaker B: Prepare for it and try and sidestep as soon as he comes forward.
[00:21:59] Speaker A: Okay. Can you roll an acrobatics.
[00:22:07] Speaker B: 14 +5 to a 19?
[00:22:10] Speaker A: 14 +5 for a 19 beleg as you try in vain to avoid avoid the deadly fang strike.
One of them buries itself into your exposed neck above the breastplate. And these fangs are just terrifyingly, instantaneously deadly. Can you roll a death saving throw?
[00:22:42] Speaker B: Oh, that's a three.
[00:22:44] Speaker A: Oh boy.
Beleg d'gar. There is Kellan the fighting spider. And you all of a sudden are reduced down, down, downwards to one tenth of the size of Kellan.
[00:23:07] Speaker B: I'm one tenth of the size of Kellan?
[00:23:10] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:23:12] Speaker B: Oh, I'm like so small that his legs look like cute little puppy paws now.
[00:23:19] Speaker A: Yeah, there's nothing cute about them at this size.
Kellan is a monstrosity.
[00:23:31] Speaker B: I try and cast dimension door and get onto his back.
[00:23:37] Speaker A: Okay, you do that.
And can you roll animal handling?
[00:23:44] Speaker B: Yep, that's a nat 20.
[00:23:49] Speaker A: As you wrangle on top of this huge beast, this eight legged beast, can you describe what your aim is?
[00:24:02] Speaker B: Well, a quick move just to get on top of him so I'm not beneath him, that subject of his, or subject to his fangs or any of his attacks. So I go try and go right to, right to behind his head, grab onto some hairs with one hand and try and drive my glaive into his head with the other.
[00:24:23] Speaker A: Okay.
You have dominated this beast, Beleg Dagar. And your glaive penetrates in to his carapace. There is an absolutely instantaneous change of perspective and of view. Beleg. Now you are no longer tiny fighting Beleg.
Now you are returned to your normal proportions and you are back in the chamber of Anansewa.
[00:25:00] Speaker B: And is Kellan there? Super little.
[00:25:05] Speaker A: Oh, as you look around. Ooh, it doesn't seem like Kellan is here.
[00:25:13] Speaker B: What about Anansewa?
[00:25:16] Speaker A: Again, all is very quiet right now, save for the dripping of water. And you remain keenly aware that, you know, you are right now well beneath the water level, but dry completely. And. And so is the chamber.
[00:25:39] Speaker B: Yeah.
I tilt my head down and sigh.
Do I feel any different? Do I feel the same? Do I feel like I try and up my self awareness Touch my chest where Kellan's mandibles got me.
[00:26:04] Speaker A: Oh, I see. Well, as you inspect your, you know, your body, there are no remains or evidence of the wounds you sustained.
[00:26:15] Speaker B: How do I feel?
[00:26:17] Speaker A: Can you roll a wisdom?
[00:26:20] Speaker B: That's 11.
[00:26:22] Speaker A: 11. Hey.
[00:26:24] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:26:25] Speaker A: Well, in this moment, you feel that your warlock powers have been enhanced in some way, combined with your martial prowess.
[00:26:44] Speaker B: I take my glaive and hold it firmly in both hands and try and cast an eldritch blast without taking my hand, my finger off.
[00:26:56] Speaker A: Oh, the moment of truth. Can you roll a 1D4.
[00:27:08] Speaker B: That's one.
[00:27:12] Speaker A: Oh, just so you know, you were always going to be successful in this. It's just somebody's reaction to it.
[00:27:25] Speaker C: What is that?
[00:27:29] Speaker B: My power.
[00:27:32] Speaker C: What is that?
[00:27:34] Speaker A: You hold.
[00:27:37] Speaker B: This.
This is part of my bond with you. This is my Glaive, my D'Gari.
[00:27:46] Speaker C: But it is not me.
[00:27:50] Speaker B: Now, this one comes with some pretty cool lightning.
[00:27:56] Speaker C: Old as dragons, that is.
The ages of the world are pages in a book to me.
[00:28:07] Speaker B: What do you think of it?
[00:28:09] Speaker A: Meh.
[00:28:14] Speaker C: You sought me and got so close you left with a scar.
You could have had a star.
[00:28:30] Speaker B: It could always come back for you.
[00:28:33] Speaker C: Do you seek it still?
[00:28:38] Speaker B: That's a tough question to answer.
[00:28:40] Speaker C: Will you return to Trombo?
[00:28:47] Speaker B: Yes. That's an easy question.
[00:28:51] Speaker C: How did you escape the Feywild?
It's a story. I don't know.
[00:29:00] Speaker B: It's a story. I don't remember.
[00:29:04] Speaker C: Oh, but you will.
The Red Frog doesn't last forever.
[00:29:14] Speaker B: Fucking A.
Oh, yes.
[00:29:19] Speaker C: The elves beyond the Feiwai fold. You see, they used the red frog.
[00:29:29] Speaker B: The elves do.
[00:29:31] Speaker C: They did.
[00:29:34] Speaker B: Does that have anything to do with my mother?
[00:29:38] Speaker C: Your mother is an elf pure.
And your father is from the material plane.
[00:29:53] Speaker B: Didn't remember anything about my father.
[00:29:56] Speaker C: That's the whole point. To keep you in a state of ignorance.
[00:30:08] Speaker B: Just a machine.
[00:30:11] Speaker C: Yes. You begin to remember now, Kept ignorant of your condition.
Fighting the horrors from between the stars in the feywild.
They are like gods, the elves.
Do you know why?
[00:30:37] Speaker B: No.
[00:30:39] Speaker C: Gods never get their feet wet.
It's beings of flesh and blood who do the dying.
[00:30:58] Speaker A: And Beleg.
You wake up in a cold sweat and it feels like you have been in this dream for days.
[00:31:11] Speaker B: But I have not.
[00:31:13] Speaker A: And there is a pair of glassy eyes, not eight this time, but two large. Outside of the third floor of the well.
[00:31:26] Speaker B: Not.
[00:31:26] Speaker A: The white chain. Needs a name.
[00:31:28] Speaker B: I run to the window and look at the eyes.
We know what happens from there.
[00:31:33] Speaker A: And that, my friend, is where we'll leave you tonight. As you snap your fingers and enlarge your genitalia by several degrees.
[00:31:42] Speaker B: That's right, dude.
[00:31:44] Speaker A: Very fun.
[00:31:46] Speaker B: A great, great little session. Yeah. Thanks, man. Peace. Bye.
[00:31:52] Speaker A: By.
