Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: Welcome, friends and adventurers to another episode of Dungeons and Blaggards. I am the dungeon Master, Robulon. Joining me in no particular order are the players.
Eric!
[00:00:16] Speaker B: I'm Eric and I'm playing Dr. Zozo Brightfeather. She is a level nine Aarakocra artificer potionsmith.
Brandon!
[00:00:25] Speaker B: I'm Ekurook Punschley. Level nine blood hunter, half orc.
Caleb!
[00:00:32] Speaker B: I'm a level nine warforged barbarian: Kaitoa Tata.
Braeden!
[00:00:40] Speaker C: Hey, I'm Braeden. I'm playing half elf, Beleg Dygar, Level 9 hexblade warlock.
Tomo!
[00:00:50] Speaker B: Hey, I'm playing Steve Tehuman. I am a Gloomstalker Ranger level five, Battle Master Fighter, level three. And I have just a little schmeck of rogue. And I have an Owl.
Vale!
[00:01:06] Speaker B: I am playing Johawk the Gnoll, a champion fighter 4, Bear totem barbarian five.
[00:01:21] Speaker A: Previously on Dungeons and Blackguards.
And then now you seem to be in some large circular room. And then, just as everybody materializes, Zozo says, jazz hand and her wings are outstretched towards what can only be described as a gigantic gelatinous cube.
[00:01:53] Speaker C: How are we in the Void?
[00:01:54] Speaker F: Yeah, what do you want from us?
[00:01:55] Speaker D: Why did you bring us here?
[00:01:59] Speaker A: The cube begins to pop and burp and the chicken carcass kind of flies out the back.
[00:02:10] Speaker G: Can I have that? As I point to the chicken carcass.
[00:02:16] Speaker A: All of a sudden it appears like a trapdoor has opened from above.
Now all of a sudden, there appears to be a 5 by 5 opening or aperture. And now there is bright white light shining down.
[00:02:36] Speaker C: Zozo flies for the opening.
[00:02:39] Speaker A: It is well within your flight distance. And Zozo, immediately you are confronted with a rudimentary construct that is opening a small trapdoor.
[00:02:56] Speaker D: Oh, God. We're like in the Sarlacc pit
[00:03:01] Speaker C: Yeah, the food slave.
So the, the construct is.
[00:03:12] Speaker C: Is it blocking the hole? Like, blocking me from going through it?
[00:03:16] Speaker A: Nope, if you wish, you know, you have sort of risen right through that aperture and now you are in a virtually identical, but much more better lit because there are windows on this level, a virtually identical circumference room. And there's this strange little construct expressly designed to open this little trapdoor.
[00:03:39] Speaker C: Do I see anything else in the room?
[00:03:42] Speaker A: There is nothing. But you do remark that all seems to be made of a perfectly formed brass alloy or a type of brass sheeting, including the floor and the trapdoor.
And party, you have seen Zozo just whoosh right up and through this opening.
[00:04:08] Speaker D: Hey, Rube, are you stuck down here?
[00:04:12] Speaker A: There, the quill dumps nervously the entire black pot of ink all over the remnants of this scroll roll. And then all is consumed, Kaitoa, as you say this, your entire conversation seems to be acidically digested.
And there is a mournful pop.
[00:04:41] Speaker D: What do you need to get out?
[00:04:43] Speaker F: We help you, help us, guys.
[00:04:46] Speaker A: All of a sudden the cube kind of solidifies where it was kind of jellified and kind of wavy. All of a sudden it sort of solidifies and now it seems rigid. And the light goes out. All of the bioluminescence from the room goes out and you are in pitch black, except for the stream of light coming from where Zozo just escaped. And you can't see Rube. You can intuit where he is or where they are, but now they are no longer a light source.
[00:05:16] Speaker G: Can I see him with my dark vision?
[00:05:18] Speaker B: Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing.
[00:05:19] Speaker A: All of you can. He remains there intact, but no longer a light source.
[00:05:25] Speaker B: Can I see around the room with my darkvision?
[00:05:28] Speaker A: Yes. The same as determined before. It is empty here. No windows and no angles, doors or exits, save for this trapdoor leading up.
[00:05:43] Speaker C: I want to observe the construct, see what it does. Does it react to me in any way or.
[00:05:48] Speaker A: Yes. The construct is now furiously focusing - it seems to have a singular eye.
[00:05:56] Speaker C: I think I just want to observe it, see what it does.
[00:05:58] Speaker A: Okay, can you roll a stealth check, please?
[00:06:02] Speaker C: That's a non natural 20 on stealth, I guess.
[00:06:05] Speaker A: Zozo, at the moment in the blind spot, now you realize that does have some sort of ocular sensory perception. And now you've moved into its blind spot and it now seems motionless. Now it seems like it has fulfilled its task. It's kind of holding this trapdoor open. But at the very same moment, Zozo, as you get into its blind spot, a trapdoor opens above you of the exact same type.
And now a whole whack of cooked chickens drops down onto the lower floor.
[00:06:43] Speaker C: I snatch one. Okay.
[00:06:49] Speaker A: Oh, and Zozo, there's some type of brown sauce on this that appears to be delicious.
[00:06:58] Speaker D: Rube's gravy.
[00:07:04] Speaker A: It comes in cube form.
[00:07:06] Speaker E: Life should taste as good as chalet.
[00:07:08] Speaker D: It's a bouillon cube.
[00:07:12] Speaker A: Well, look, all of these things drop down. But then, Zozo, at the end of the wave of chickens, is another strange small construct. It looks like a little farmer's plow.
[00:07:26] Speaker F: All right, Steve wants out of this room too.
[00:07:29] Speaker A: Okay, Steve, as you and the party down there are looking up, all of a sudden you See a little shadow, and all of a sudden, here come about seven or eight cooked chickens that are now dumping onto your level.
[00:07:47] Speaker F: Steve wants to.
Yeah, get out of the. Get out of this dark room.
[00:07:52] Speaker D: Can't you use your rope trick to, like, climb out of here?
I can drop a rope for you.
[00:07:57] Speaker F: Yeah, I mean, I've got, like.
[00:07:59] Speaker E: Unless.
[00:08:00] Speaker F: Yeah, if you want to drop a rope.
[00:08:01] Speaker C: Yeah, I think after. After snatching a chicken, Zozo pulls a rope out of her pack and drops it down. I mean, drops one end down, unfurls it.
Is she able to do that without the construct, like, noticing or that reveal herself?
[00:08:19] Speaker A: Certainly. I mean, you can certainly drop that down. Party, you see a rope now extend down. You know, Kaitoa, as you ask the boy from Moy there whether his rope trick will work, indeed, a physical rope sort of appears. And Zozo, this second construct, hmm.
It does not seem to have any other function than pushing things around.
[00:08:49] Speaker C: That construct is from a trapdoor above.
[00:08:53] Speaker A: Correct.
And as you sort of hover here, party, you can see it is your winged party member, who's approximately 10ft up on the next level.
[00:09:04] Speaker G: Do you want me to come with you?
[00:09:07] Speaker B: Rook's gonna go forward. He sees Steve making moves and not really hearing much from Zozo, so he's gonna head that way.
[00:09:16] Speaker E: Beleg kind of wants to go poke Rube.
[00:09:19] Speaker D: Yeah, I kind of want to keep getting into a lot of Rube here, but if everyone's leaving, I don't want to split the party up that, like.
[00:09:27] Speaker E: Does go up and down.
[00:09:28] Speaker F: I mean, do we wanna. Do we wanna help Rube or do we wanna get. Get out of here? Because this seems like a chance to do that.
[00:09:34] Speaker D: Yeah. Okay, let's get out of here. We can come back from help Rube if we can.
[00:09:38] Speaker E: We may be able to open the door from the other side, but I don't know if we can open the door from inside.
[00:09:44] Speaker D: All right, Kaitoa starts climbing the rope.
[00:09:48] Speaker G: Do you want me to come with you?
[00:09:50] Speaker D: Well, unless you want to stay here with fucking Ruby.
[00:09:54] Speaker G: Very well.
And I start climbing too.
[00:09:58] Speaker A: Okay, Party, you are faced with a virtually identical circular room layout. There are two construct creatures that are within your five feet. The moment that you come through this sort of trapdoor aperture, one holds the trapdoor open, and the other is just pushing in some of the entrails of the chicken. And there goes a big drop of gravy.
[00:10:34] Speaker G: I'm gonna try to grab the entrails, and then I'm gonna put it up to my muzzle and then get very sad.
[00:10:42] Speaker A: And gnoll, as you do so you know Zozo, you, you kind of lock eyes with the gnoll and like he kind of sees that you also have a bit of barbecue sauce around your beak.
[00:10:55] Speaker C: I swear this doesn't count as cannibalism.
[00:10:58] Speaker G: I would never eat a hyena.
[00:11:01] Speaker C: They're delicious.
You really should try them.
[00:11:05] Speaker G: I would love to.
[00:11:08] Speaker A: Your final party members, they're out of Rube's level. Is that what I'm to understand?
Yeah.
[00:11:15] Speaker E: I do want to know what happened when I touched Rube.
[00:11:19] Speaker A: A creature within 5ft of the cube can take an action to pull a creature or object out of the cube and Beleg, you know, as you reach and poke the cube, you feel like you better roll a DC12 strength check as you poke it.
[00:11:38] Speaker G: Is this acid damage?
I hope not.
[00:11:42] Speaker E: That's 12 - meets it beats it.
[00:11:46] Speaker A: Luckily Rube seems to permit you reaching in and your poke. What are you doing now that as the last party member. Sorry. Who was last to climb up the rope?
Beleg.
Before Beleg though.
[00:12:04] Speaker G: I think I would wait for everyone else.
Before climbing up the rope.
[00:12:08] Speaker A: You tarry just a bit. Beleg again. And what are you doing now as your hand is enveloped and you do feel like all of your hair though on your hand begin to be like totally waxed away.
[00:12:23] Speaker E: Oh, that's okay. This is my hairless half anyways.
[00:12:28] Speaker B: Or is he going completely bald?
[00:12:33] Speaker E: I just kind of wanted to see if he responded, but now I want to grab something.
[00:12:37] Speaker F: It's been a few weeks since you got krissed, I think some stubble.
[00:12:41] Speaker D: You get your hand in there, you might as well grab something.
Grab a scroll.
[00:12:47] Speaker E: Yeah. So what's left in there, Rob?
[00:12:50] Speaker A: Well, there's a candelabra, there's a black quill, there's a spilled sort of upturned bottle of ink, several unused rolls of scrolls, and there are a couple little entrails of chicken.
[00:13:10] Speaker E: That candelabra is really intriguing me.
[00:13:13] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:13:14] Speaker A: As you reach for it, you will need to make another DC12 strength again.
[00:13:21] Speaker D: Huh?
[00:13:23] Speaker E: It's an 18.
[00:13:24] Speaker A: Alright. As your arm moves through, you are successful. And although your arm was totally engulfed and it was kind of permitted, the creature allows your arm to escape and allows the candelabra to pass out. And you notice that each of those four candles that are attached to this candelabra have a small green bioluminescent flame on them.
[00:13:58] Speaker D: Hurry up and climb this rope before you get locked down there.
[00:14:00] Speaker E: I am. I just can't talk while I'm typing in my Notes
[00:14:04] Speaker A: as you say that, Kaitoa, you see Beleg like hurrying up there. And sure enough, Kaitoa as you kind of get your heft through and the gnoll comes through. And then Beleg shimmies up the construct with the one eye, examines, closes, and now shuts the door with a clang.
[00:14:30] Speaker C: Was that before or after Beleg got up?
[00:14:34] Speaker A: Beleg, can you roll a dexterity saving throw?
Beleg's dead.
No, he's cut in half.
[00:14:45] Speaker F: No, just the top part of his body.
[00:14:49] Speaker A: Yeah, he's just screaming.
[00:14:51] Speaker D: No, half his body made it through the door.
[00:14:53] Speaker E: The other half
It was an 18. An 18 dex check.
[00:14:57] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:14:58] Speaker G: After his body is cut in half, I ask to eat the half that's with us.
[00:15:03] Speaker A: You know, as the party, as they are prone to do, laughs and chortles and Beleg kind of just makes it by for the hair of his chinny chin chin.
The brass door does close with a shuddering slam that could totally chop an adventurer in twain.
[00:15:28] Speaker D: Is the one above us still open?
[00:15:30] Speaker A: Yes. And now the little plow, the chicken plow seems to mop up a little bit of the entrails. And now it begins to center itself under that aperture above it.
[00:15:47] Speaker F: Time to go up.
Yeah.
[00:15:50] Speaker E: Race to the top.
[00:15:52] Speaker F: Yeah, let's beat that machine.
[00:15:55] Speaker D: Drop us a rope.
[00:15:57] Speaker E: Beleg is gonna cast, fly on himself and start flying straight up with Zozo.
[00:16:02] Speaker A: Okay, well, as party, as you see, this small thing, and it is not larger than the size of a shield.
In fact, that's almost what it looks like. It looks like a little shield with a small farmer's plow sort of in front of it. And it centers itself under this trapdoor. And then Beleg and Zozo, you fly up. And then rook, Steve, Kaitoa and Johawk. What are you guys doing?
[00:16:28] Speaker F: Steve is doing his grappling attack that he's done before in Polb with his little whatchamacallit silenced grappling hook.
[00:16:39] Speaker A: Can you roll for again dexterity.
[00:16:42] Speaker E: Yep.
[00:16:43] Speaker G: The rope was thrown down right at the moment.
[00:16:47] Speaker A: There is no that rope was to the other level, back to Rube's level. At the moment, there is nothing except...
19 plus 7.
[00:16:56] Speaker F: So 27.
[00:16:56] Speaker A: Now there is a tether. Now the boy from Moy has thrown a grappling hook up and Beleg, Zozo, you fly through the aperture. Just as you hear the muffled sound of Steve's pillow grappling hook.
[00:17:13] Speaker D: Kaitoa's gonna quickly scramble up behind Steve up this rope.
[00:17:18] Speaker G: I'm gonna climb up behind Kaitoa.
[00:17:21] Speaker F: I think the way I saw is that Steve like did a like a little vault off of the the top of this robot, caught and tossed the hook in midair and then caught it as it. As it hooked on.
He's just pulling himself up as quickly as possible. Little spider monkey
[00:17:38] Speaker A: Party as you all go up there, can I have Kaitoa and Johawk and Rook make a dexterity check?
[00:17:48] Speaker G: 17.
[00:17:49] Speaker D: Thank God.
[00:17:52] Speaker A: And Steve, you begin to kick that robot off of its trajectory just as a strange metallic winch begins to come down with a hook. Just as you guys are coming up, a hook drops down.
[00:18:09] Speaker F: I didn't knock it out of the way, did I?
[00:18:12] Speaker A: It appears not quite, but. Party. You're up there. We heard. Kaitoa, Rook, what'd you get, bud?
[00:18:17] Speaker D: Rook not answering.
[00:18:20] Speaker A: Guys, very, very quickly, you realize that in this moment, you know, Rook has been hooked by this hook instead of the robot, which Steve kind of kicked out of the way.
This automatic hook seems to have picked up the half orc.
[00:18:40] Speaker D: That lucky bastard.
[00:18:43] Speaker G: I'm still climbing up the intended direct, the intended way.
[00:18:47] Speaker A: Yeah, Party. Just as the rope team and Rook on the winch make it up to the next level, Beleg and Dr. Zozo, who made it up here first, can you roll perception?
[00:19:01] Speaker D: Nice, I picture Rook asleep also, passed out.
[00:19:06] Speaker F: 12
[00:19:09] Speaker B: Nope.
[00:19:09] Speaker D: Oh, there he is.
[00:19:11] Speaker B: Just listening.
Just listening.
[00:19:17] Speaker A: You four kind of burst through behind Beleg and Zozo, who were first kind of like on the beachhead of this new level. And it is rather dark.
What'd you guys roll?
[00:19:30] Speaker D: I got a 20
[00:19:32] Speaker E: We each rolled 12.
[00:19:35] Speaker A: Okay.
This seems to be an identical level, maybe just tapered and a tiny bit smaller in terms of footprint. That may be noticeable at this point, but it is very dark. And whereas the last level had various windows which nobody looked out, this level has no windows - like Rube's level. This seems to be a level with no windows. And so it is dark other than the trapdoor, which now is rapidly closing. And just as Rook's toe kind of makes it up as he is borne by the winch, the door snaps shut and it is 100% completely dark.
[00:20:31] Speaker G: Do I see anything around here? With my darkvision?
Virtually identical to Rube's level.
[00:20:38] Speaker A: There are the five adventurers plus you. And there you see, the winch itself also seems to be a rudimentary construct. It's kind of stuck to the ceiling right above that trapdoor. And again, its only function seems to be to let down a winch to drop down the shovel construct.
[00:21:04] Speaker D: Is the shovel construct still there?
[00:21:07] Speaker A: That shovel construct is gone.
[00:21:09] Speaker D: Where'd it go?
[00:21:11] Speaker A: Rook took its place.
[00:21:12] Speaker D: Oh, right. Yeah, yeah.
[00:21:16] Speaker E: We don't. Like there's no outline of another trapdoor above or Beleg.
[00:21:22] Speaker A: Can you roll perception as you were the first to begin looking around at the underside of the next level.
[00:21:31] Speaker D: Kaitoa looks for grease.
[00:21:33] Speaker E: That was another 12.
[00:21:35] Speaker A: You paw around and prod around. There doesn't seem to be a logical pattern between where you've seen these things appear.
[00:21:48] Speaker D: Are we stuck in here until it's feeding time again?
[00:21:51] Speaker G: Yeah.
[00:21:53] Speaker F: Did we just like lock ourselves in a closet?
[00:21:56] Speaker G: Please don't say anything relating to food.
[00:22:01] Speaker C: Is there a chicken?
[00:22:03] Speaker B: We can't see a trapdoor or any light coming out of the roof.
[00:22:07] Speaker D: No.
[00:22:09] Speaker E: What's the construct doing now? Just chilling on the ceiling?
[00:22:15] Speaker A: It winds its final foot of what looks like a sort of cable into a spool.
[00:22:25] Speaker F: So we're stuck in a closet.
[00:22:28] Speaker D: Can I investigate the construct to see, like, is there anything that's controlling it or anything hooked up to it?
[00:22:36] Speaker E: I want to investigate the trapdoor that we just came up through.
[00:22:41] Speaker A: Okay. Kaitoa, a roll investigation on the construct or another skill if you prefer.
Could be insight, could be history, could be anything.
[00:22:50] Speaker C: I think Zozo's interested in the construct as well. Okay.
[00:22:53] Speaker G: I think I'm interested in the trapdoor.
[00:22:55] Speaker A: Okay, so Beleg and the gnoll on the trap door. And then Zozo, you're also interested, along with Kaitoa, in the the construction.
[00:23:05] Speaker D: I got an 18.
[00:23:06] Speaker C: I got a 21.
[00:23:08] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:23:09] Speaker G: Natural 20 on investigation.
[00:23:13] Speaker E: 14 for Beleg.
[00:23:15] Speaker G: Total of 19.
[00:23:17] Speaker E: Third, 11th in a row.
[00:23:19] Speaker A: So Beleg and Johawk, you begin to examine the fine, fine seam of this brass door where it intersects with a brass floor. And there doesn't seem to be any hinge.
There seems to be no moving part whatsoever.
And you cannot discern on the underside of the next one. You cannot discern where the next one is.
Except for, you know, finally you notice there know there is some sort of a pattern. You begin to realize that these things are definitely separated by more than 180 degrees. So they're certainly not going to appear over one another. And you folks on the construct 18 and 21, you both are familiar with the machinations of this construct.
There seems to be some type of amalgamation of metal and wood.
Now that you've seen three of these little creatures, you know, you can see that there's very little in terms of function, very basic constructs.
[00:24:50] Speaker D: Can we see like a trigger or anything that like
No, no.
[00:24:55] Speaker C: How is it attached to the ceiling or wall?
[00:24:59] Speaker G: Is there a maintenance hatch?
[00:25:01] Speaker A: Yes, it does seem to be attached to this winch one. Whereas the other ones seem to be little autonomous creatures.
One of them had little treads there: the plow.
This one seems to be almost fused with the ceiling.
[00:25:20] Speaker D: Should we rip it off?
[00:25:21] Speaker E: Tickle it? Maybe it'll open up.
[00:25:24] Speaker C: Yeah, I kind of want to take it down.
[00:25:26] Speaker D: Yeah.
Zozo, should we rip this thing off?
[00:25:30] Speaker C: Yeah, let's do it.
[00:25:31] Speaker D: Yeah. Kaitoa just starts like climbs up, dangles from it and just starts like trying to reef it off.
[00:25:40] Speaker C: Zozo's getting in there with like tools and stuff and kind of like trying to pry it.
[00:25:46] Speaker F: Just doing the most aggressive pull ups
[00:25:48] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:25:50] Speaker A: Rook and Steve, you see two things going on. All of a sudden you see Beleg and Johawk have kind of an aha moment. They have discovered the seam of the next trapdoor in the exact moment that like Kaitoa just swings up all like Spiderman like and starts reefing upside down on this thing. And Zozo's in there with all kinds of - little pry bar. And gradually you hear a wrenching of metal.
[00:26:22] Speaker G: There's another trapdoor over here.
[00:26:26] Speaker F: Let's try to open that up.
[00:26:29] Speaker C: Just a sec.
[00:26:31] Speaker A: Okay, Zozo as you say that, and Kaitoa as you say that, can you both make a dexterity saving throw as you kind of tumble down? Because this thing has come off the roof.
[00:26:45] Speaker C: Oh, natural 20.
15.
[00:26:49] Speaker A: Nice. Well, you, you both, I mean Zozo, how do you flutter away and then Kaitoa, how do you kind of brace for impact?
[00:26:56] Speaker C: I think Zozo does like a little bit of a back, back flip through the air.
Just gracefully swoops down.
[00:27:04] Speaker D: Kaitoa just falls down and lands on top of it and it breaks his fall.
[00:27:11] Speaker A: Nice. Yes. You, you flip around and this thing, I mean for better or worse, you certainly dislodged it from the roof. And Kaitoa, as you said, it broke your fall and it is destroyed.
Yeah. So unfortunately this little winch, little winchy: gone.
[00:27:35] Speaker C: Zozo collects up all the little parts.
[00:27:38] Speaker A: Okay. You have accumulated probably about five pounds of strange metallic but also wooden construct parts.
[00:27:48] Speaker G: And the winch.
[00:27:50] Speaker A: Yes. And a spool that is at least 15ft long of cable.
[00:27:57] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:27:58] Speaker F: He's got his.
[00:27:59] Speaker E: Sounds like that would be good for catching gargoyles.
[00:28:01] Speaker D: That's gonna come in handy.
[00:28:04] Speaker A: Harpoon gun.
[00:28:07] Speaker F: Steve's got his pry bar and he's trying to. Trying to fit it into the seam between the Wall and the next, porthole, or door or whatever it is.
[00:28:22] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. Party you see Steve come up roll up with like your - is this your little like mini thieves pry bar? Are you using thieves tools or more like brute force?
[00:28:33] Speaker F: No, it's a pry bar. I have a pry bar it would be used for thieving.
[00:28:37] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:28:39] Speaker A: Is anybody else attempting any physical assault on what Jo and Beleg have identified as the next trapdoor?
[00:28:49] Speaker G: Have the doors open upwards or downwards? Like do they swing down or do they get pulled up?
[00:28:56] Speaker A: Great question. They have been pulled up and you remember that first construct distinctly. Its only purpose seemed to be to latch on to that and pull it up. And you remember it seemed to even have a sort of rubber gasket that seemed to latch on like a suction cup and pull it upwards.
[00:29:17] Speaker G: How tall is the ceiling?
[00:29:19] Speaker A: Every floor is 10ft.
[00:29:22] Speaker G: Oh I don't suppose I can like jump up and try and punch it open.
[00:29:29] Speaker E: I'd hold Steve up to there.
[00:29:31] Speaker A: Yeah. Beleg who's still casting fly. But yeah sure there's a human ladder. Jo, you said you, you'd afford some, some stability.
Steve, can you roll on lock picking?
[00:29:45] Speaker F: Yes I can.
[00:29:46] Speaker D: Oh Robin, do I still have like remember I said it was be going to make some like macerated meat tubes?
[00:29:54] Speaker A: I do. Oh God I love that. And your meat tubes, they're probably looking a little old.
[00:30:01] Speaker D: Oh shitty. Sorry Johawk.
[00:30:05] Speaker G: I can eat rancid meat.
[00:30:06] Speaker D: Yeah, right, well I toss one of them.
[00:30:11] Speaker F: So 21.
[00:30:13] Speaker A: Steve manages to just wedge his pry bar into the seam. So it seems like with force and the right leverage this next trapdoor is opening.
[00:30:29] Speaker D: Woohoo.
[00:30:31] Speaker A: The human pyramid begins to collapse a little bit. You have got to be using Rook and Kaitoa and Johawk.
[00:30:40] Speaker C: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:30:43] Speaker A: Can everybody roll? What do you guys feel that is - athletics feels appropriate or strength or Con?
[00:30:48] Speaker D: I would say strength.
[00:30:49] Speaker G: I love athletics.
[00:30:50] Speaker A: I've got a plus eight roll.
The ATH, strength or CON of your choice?
[00:30:56] Speaker F: 18 athletics.
[00:31:00] Speaker C: 18, 16 for me.
[00:31:02] Speaker D: And I didn't hear Brandit.
[00:31:04] Speaker B: That was a 25.
[00:31:07] Speaker A: Fantastic. Well then in that case I would say in this moment - can you guys also describe how you do the leaf cutter ants who grab up their own ladder?
[00:31:19] Speaker G: Just like pushing up one of my brethren who's climbing through a window.
[00:31:24] Speaker B: Rook stabilizing. Just standing there holding them up.
[00:31:28] Speaker D: Yeah, someone's just standing on my shoulders.
[00:31:32] Speaker A: Very nice guys. And as all three of the larger party members you know are, you know Steve, you kind of are the first to get through there. The flying guys are through. You are in a new level. There are windows. And,
Zozo go to looks out the window
There is an identical construct that seems to have been prepared to open up that little hatch. But you know, Steve, your intrusion has interrupted this. And now it stands about five feet back from the hatch and it begins to spin around wildly.
Zozo, you said you were going for a window.
[00:32:17] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:32:17] Speaker C: As soon as Zozo gets up there.
[00:32:19] Speaker G: I think, as per the dm passive aggression, I'm gonna check a window too.
[00:32:25] Speaker A: There's a bum rush as you guys, you know, can sense some light. And Zozo and gnoll, as you rush to the window. It's essentially 60ft in any direction. In this case, the trapdoor has appeared virtually in the center of the diameter of a level of what you now can clearly confirm to be the Eastern Brass Tower. You are approximately 440ft above the cliff city of Kozzem. And the heights are dizzying. Clouds are around you.
[00:33:04] Speaker F: Oh, geez.
[00:33:06] Speaker C: Well, we made it.
We're at the Wizard's Guild.
For better or for worse.
[00:33:13] Speaker E: Fuck you, Joe Hawk.
[00:33:15] Speaker F: Are we in the right tower?
[00:33:19] Speaker E: Well, if you're facing north, it's the right tower. But if we're facing south, it's the left one.
[00:33:26] Speaker G: I was honest. We could do this with an army of gnolls.
[00:33:31] Speaker C: I don't.
I don't want you to have the advantage.
[00:33:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:33:36] Speaker B: Sucks to your gnolls!
[00:33:38] Speaker C: We'd be fighting an army of Gnolls.
[00:33:41] Speaker G: Only if you killed my brother.
[00:33:45] Speaker F: We killed a lot of Gnolls.
[00:33:46] Speaker D: Yeah. There's a good chance.
[00:33:48] Speaker G: And I was.
[00:33:49] Speaker E: one of them just appeared over Beleg's head.
[00:33:55] Speaker D: I'm gonna investigate this room we're in a little more. And this. Yeah. What else is in the room? Or just windows.
[00:34:02] Speaker C: There's also a construct spinning around wildly.
[00:34:05] Speaker D: Yeah. Is there?
[00:34:06] Speaker E: I want to look at the other tower to judge we're right near the top or not of this tower, judging where we are.
[00:34:16] Speaker B: And I want to see on the outside if there's anything to climb up or down using like scaling rock
[00:34:25] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. Beleg and Rook, as you join Zozo and gnollhawk at the - and these are odd windows. They're a sort of Perspex non glass material. They seem to have an almost like impenetrable quality to them, but they're perfectly clear. It's almost as if you're looking through nothing.
As you look down, you guys can clearly determine you're in the top. You know, three.
[00:34:53] Speaker E: Like an Aarakocra death trap.
[00:34:56] Speaker A: Yeah. You're in the top three quarters of this tower as it tapers towards the spire. And as you look down you can clearly see what must be a sort of mid point opening to both brass towers and Zozo, who's been attentive all along. You know, you begin to intuit that that must be the noon time level.
And you have been transported not into any sort of permanent transportation circle.
You guys were transported directly into Rube's chamber.
So now you are four levels above there.
And. Yeah. Light streams in. It is the mid early morning.
And Kaitoa, you asked what else in this room? Nothing else in this room except for you, the party members. It looks like approximately six windows and the a small construct spinning wildly as the last party member comes through the brass door.
[00:36:10] Speaker G: Can I break it?
[00:36:12] Speaker C: The construct or the window?
[00:36:14] Speaker G: The construct.
[00:36:16] Speaker E: I don't really care.
[00:36:18] Speaker C: Go ahead.
[00:36:18] Speaker G: I tried to snap its body in half.
[00:36:21] Speaker A: Oh yeah. Party. Did you confiscate the Gnoll's maul? I think so, yes.
[00:36:27] Speaker C: Zozo I think still has it.
Zozo just took them the maul.
[00:36:32] Speaker G: Oh, then I might still have my flail. I'm gonna use my flail to break it.
[00:36:36] Speaker A: You will roll on AC, and party, you see the Gnoll come at the little floor construct - the door construct.
[00:36:45] Speaker G: One hell of a natty damage 2D8. I don't think I get my great weapon Fighter.
[00:36:54] Speaker D: No.
[00:36:56] Speaker A: On a flail? I don't think so.
[00:37:00] Speaker D: Gotta be a particular weapon. Yeah.
[00:37:02] Speaker G: 14 damage.
[00:37:04] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:37:05] Speaker D: You realize it's gonna set off an alarm.
[00:37:09] Speaker G: That's why I asked you guys.
[00:37:12] Speaker A: You sink your ball and chain into the the metal carapace of this kind of insect like construct. This only joy in life was opening this little door and you just destroy it.
And as you look, this is the one with the little brass eye on it, as you look, a little teardrop of oil drips down from its brass eye.
Weakling.
And it is gone.
And there is a little puff of steam.
[00:37:50] Speaker G: He is not as strong as you are.
[00:37:53] Speaker C: You're about as strong as Kaitoa's butt.
[00:37:55] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:37:57] Speaker C: He destroyed the last one by sitting on it.
[00:37:59] Speaker D: Yeah, that's true. If the other one didn't go alarming anything.
[00:38:07] Speaker C: That was my thought.
[00:38:09] Speaker D: Then this one won't either. Yeah.
[00:38:12] Speaker C: Did you guys know that the gnoll still had a flail?
I thought one of you searched them.
[00:38:20] Speaker G: I also have a longbow and 20 arrows.
[00:38:24] Speaker C: Where are you hiding all this?
[00:38:25] Speaker D: Does this construct. You said it had like a suction cup to open the door?
[00:38:32] Speaker A: Yes. Well, it has also now a flail embedded in it. But if you look at its parts, it does. It contains two little treads, two sets of wheels with treads around them, and a little brass eye, a little body and a little suction cup.
[00:38:52] Speaker D: I'm gonna take that suction cup.
[00:38:56] Speaker A: You see Kaitoa kind of wrench a couple of parts off of it and you're like, Jo, are you satisfied that this thing is down?
[00:39:04] Speaker G: Yes.
[00:39:06] Speaker A: And now truly party, there's nothing in the room other than the midday morning light streaming in and up. At this altitude, it is gorgeous. As you look down on the cliffs city of Kozzem.
[00:39:24] Speaker D: Can we see if there is a door in the room? I missed that.
[00:39:28] Speaker A: Kaitoa, as you look up at the ceiling, same as before, all the party would look for the almost imperceptible seams of what you would hope would be another trapdoor.
[00:39:41] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:39:43] Speaker A: And party, you know, as you look down, of course, us Canadian folk, you know, if you've ever been to the CN Tower, it's hard to get this sort of perception. But you know, you're looking way down.
[00:39:54] Speaker G: For the American viewers, that's kind of like the Space Needle or.
[00:39:58] Speaker A: There you go.
And even the highest levels of the cliff city of Kozzem only approach the lowest levels of both brass towers.
[00:40:16] Speaker G: So what do we do when we get to the top?
[00:40:20] Speaker D: Rappel to the other ones.
[00:40:24] Speaker G: How far away is the other tower.
[00:40:28] Speaker A: Party? Can you roll a group perception as you begin to assess the distance between these brass spires that look virtually identical?
[00:40:39] Speaker G: 16.
[00:40:40] Speaker C: I got a 16.
[00:40:42] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:40:43] Speaker E: Seven for Beleg.
[00:40:44] Speaker A: Classic
14.
Okay.
[00:40:47] Speaker B: That's a nine.
[00:40:49] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:40:50] Speaker F: 22 for Steve.
[00:40:51] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:40:53] Speaker A: As you all discuss like various distances, it's Steve who, you know, looks at all of your assessments and roughly gauges it to be approximately 180ft.
[00:41:08] Speaker G: That's far.
[00:41:09] Speaker A: Now, base to base, of course, tapering closer together. But where you guys are and Steve, you can really now start to get, as you look at the whole thing that you are, you know, four fifths of the way up these towers.
[00:41:27] Speaker D: So we got 15ft of cable.
And a bird that can fly.
[00:41:36] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:41:37] Speaker D: How much weight can you hold, Zozo?
[00:41:41] Speaker C: Well, my strength modifier is negative one.
[00:41:47] Speaker F: Don't know if we can trust that.
[00:41:49] Speaker C: Yeah, I guess we can keep going up and figure it out when we get there.
[00:41:54] Speaker D: Yeah, let's.
[00:41:56] Speaker G: It will be easier if we go to the top.
[00:41:59] Speaker D: Yep.
[00:42:02] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:42:02] Speaker D: The only way we can go - onward and upwards.
[00:42:06] Speaker F: I mean, we know what's going, what's below us.
[00:42:08] Speaker A: So as you guys say that all of a sudden there is an outline and a trapdoor as you're becoming very familiar with - like clockwork - opening.
And now of course instead of a beam of light coming down because you are in a lit room with windows, you simply see a dark opening appear 10ft above you. And again very much off center from where the last door was.
[00:42:46] Speaker D: Does anything come down or just open?
[00:42:49] Speaker A: Kaitoa, you have danger sense?
[00:42:52] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:42:53] Speaker A: Johawk, you have danger sense?
[00:42:55] Speaker C: I do.
[00:42:56] Speaker A: Right.
[00:42:57] Speaker G: Isn't it weird that this is the only one that is opened for us other than the ones that were dispensing food?
[00:43:05] Speaker C: Isn't it also weird that we haven't seen where the chickens came from?
[00:43:10] Speaker D: Kaitoa rages.
Just a prep for that one.
[00:43:21] Speaker F: Hey, I'm going to Steve's gonna go into his little fun little trance.
[00:43:29] Speaker D: Where you detect every humanoid?
[00:43:31] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:43:31] Speaker F: I want to see what's if there's anything above us.
[00:43:34] Speaker G: If we're taking 10 minutes, I'm going to cast the beast sense ritual.
[00:43:39] Speaker F: Takes a. It takes a minute.
[00:43:42] Speaker D: If you guys are doing that, then I won't rage just yet.
[00:43:46] Speaker A: Construct, Gnoll Fighter, and Ranger Rogue Fighter. All sort of take a strategic approach.
Zozo, Rook, Beleg. What do you do? As there's clearly an ominous next level.
[00:44:12] Speaker E: Well, my Glaive is out, that's for sure.
[00:44:15] Speaker B: Yeah, definitely pull up my both my swords.
[00:44:20] Speaker C: I think Zozo is listening.
[00:44:23] Speaker A: Perception. Listening. Okay. Any ritual or any rites?
You get the cue clearly from the party members who are doing some sort of long form investigation here. That no immediate move will be made.
Zozo, you hear nothing.
[00:44:40] Speaker D: Anyone with Darkvision can see up there.
[00:44:43] Speaker A: Anybody with Darkvision.
You would see the upper underfloor of the next level. Again, this is one of those windowless levels. You see nothing but the underside of another brass floor.
[00:45:00] Speaker G: And beast sense didn't yield any beasts around me?
[00:45:04] Speaker B: Ah.
[00:45:04] Speaker A: Okay. Now. Beast sense. Can you describe that for for us? Johawk and anybody else who is performing something. Steve, you mentioned something.
[00:45:12] Speaker F: I'm using my primeval awareness.
[00:45:15] Speaker G: Right?
[00:45:16] Speaker B: Primeval.
[00:45:17] Speaker A: What's beast sense?
[00:45:18] Speaker G: Beast sense is a ritual I can do. Because I am a totem barbarian. I can get up its exact verbiage in just a second.
Oh, this doesn't do anything for me.
[00:45:31] Speaker F: It's detecting humanoids within.
[00:45:35] Speaker G: I was thinking it would let me detect any beasts, but it's completely different. Than what, than what the spell does.
[00:45:43] Speaker A: Well, Johawk, you feel your whatever training and proficiency you felt you had with this skill. You feel it become immediately irrelevant and let out an exasperated sigh.
[00:45:56] Speaker G: What am I doing?
[00:45:58] Speaker A: Steve?
Humanoids.
[00:46:01] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:46:02] Speaker A: Okay.
You sense three in the eastern tower at the uppermost level.
[00:46:13] Speaker F: And they are a fair, still a fair distance?
[00:46:18] Speaker A: Well, they are approximately 14 levels away from you.
[00:46:28] Speaker F: About 140ft.
[00:46:30] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:46:31] Speaker F: Okay. There's nothing. There's nothing humanoid. In fact waiting for us in the next spot.
[00:46:36] Speaker A: In between you and those heartbeats that you sense through your ranger magics, there is no other humanoid.
[00:46:49] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:46:51] Speaker G: Okay.
[00:46:52] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:53] Speaker F: The only living real sentient things not say living is a fair distance away. That doesn't mean there isn't other robots or constructs or.
[00:47:06] Speaker G: Can I have my weapon back?
[00:47:09] Speaker E: You have a flail.
[00:47:10] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:47:11] Speaker G: I'm not as strong with it.
[00:47:14] Speaker C: You destroyed that little robot.
[00:47:18] Speaker G: I don't sense it will be easy in this next room.
[00:47:22] Speaker F: I think we'll have to cross the road when we get.
[00:47:25] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:47:25] Speaker E: Let's find out.
[00:47:26] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:47:27] Speaker E: Shall we?
[00:47:30] Speaker G: Okay.
[00:47:30] Speaker C: All right. Let's go for it.
[00:47:32] Speaker G: And he kind of subserviently bows his head.
[00:47:38] Speaker F: Hey man.
[00:47:42] Speaker G: Strong deserve whatever they can.
You have taken it.
Fairly.
[00:47:51] Speaker A: Okay. Can I have everybody roll a one D6.
[00:47:56] Speaker G: Six.
Oh my God. Everyone just rolls sixes.
[00:48:00] Speaker C: I got two.
Oh.
[00:48:03] Speaker A: Kaitoa 2.
Beleg 6?
Jo 6.
[00:48:07] Speaker E: No, Beleg 2.
[00:48:08] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:48:09] Speaker C: Oh.
[00:48:10] Speaker B: Six.
[00:48:11] Speaker F: Oh shit.
[00:48:13] Speaker A: Steve.
[00:48:14] Speaker F: I got a three.
[00:48:15] Speaker A: Huh?
[00:48:16] Speaker C: Zozo six.
[00:48:19] Speaker A: Who rolled lowest there? Beleg.
[00:48:23] Speaker D: Yeah me and Beleg got 2's.
Yeah.
[00:48:25] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:48:25] Speaker A: Okay. Beleg. Describe how you fly up there. You're the first - whoo!
[00:48:33] Speaker E: Tentatively with Glaive at the ready.
[00:48:37] Speaker A: Oh, guys. And Beleg's fly spell inspiring. As you see him cover the distance and just launch up there as if gravity has no pull. And Kaitoa, how do you follow up?
[00:48:53] Speaker D: Uh, I scurry up the wall.
I use that suction cup.
I use that suction cup to plant on the wall.
[00:49:05] Speaker A: And the brass wall walls here are very smooth. And you incorporate the suction cup of the construct and are able to kind of make it up like a upside down MI6 move. And just as you guys get up there, you will take...
Kaitoa's raging.
Well, you did have the danger sense, right? I mean we, we talked about that.
[00:49:34] Speaker C: I know. I'm just kidding.
[00:49:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:49:38] Speaker A: You will take 26 chopping damage.
[00:49:42] Speaker F: God damn.
[00:49:44] Speaker G: I'm glad you didn't ask me how I got up.
[00:49:48] Speaker A: As the first two party members who get up to the next trap door are struck down and chopped down by the brass trap door.
And you're both going to take. So 10ft is just 1d6. That's nothing. It's four falling damage.
[00:50:14] Speaker E: So that's 30 damage total.
[00:50:16] Speaker G: Correct.
[00:50:17] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:50:18] Speaker D: And then my danger sense. I don't get anything on that, do I?
[00:50:22] Speaker G: Do I see what...
[00:50:25] Speaker A: I'd say you had the, the ability to rage to half this damage.
[00:50:28] Speaker D: Oh, okay.
[00:50:29] Speaker F: Just. Do we see what did that to them as they jumped up?
[00:50:32] Speaker B: I mean.
[00:50:32] Speaker A: Oh yeah. The door closing. And then the door is going to roll: Torso Choice-O. And Beleg... you lose an arm.
[00:50:46] Speaker B: What?
[00:50:49] Speaker A: And Kaitoa, you lose.
That is a two.
That is also an arm.
[00:50:58] Speaker E: Holy.
[00:50:59] Speaker G: What the.
[00:51:01] Speaker A: And both of their bodies smash down on to this level.
And that, friends and adventurers, is where we'll have to leave you tonight on this episode of Dungeons and Blaggards.
[00:52:20] Speaker D: Well, hopefully Zozo can put my arm back on or else I can't swing a weapon.
[00:52:25] Speaker F: Those are replaceable, right?
[00:52:27] Speaker C: Yeah, I don't think mine is.
[00:52:29] Speaker G: Yeah, we can just. We can just replace Beleg's arm.
[00:52:34] Speaker D: Yeah, like normally I get to do adex check before something this terrible happens.
[00:52:40] Speaker A: Kaitoa feels somewhat, as you said, sort of repairable. But Beleg, I heard your comment.
[00:52:48] Speaker E: Was it the tattooed arm or the non tattooed arm?
[00:52:53] Speaker A: Ah.
Oh boy. What a question. Well, I mean you could roll that. Do you want to roll on that?
[00:53:00] Speaker B: 50/50.
[00:53:01] Speaker E: I'm just gonna roll a D20.
[00:53:03] Speaker A: Okay. Above 10 is your choice. Below 10 is the arm with the tattoo from Anansewa.
[00:53:12] Speaker E: Oh fuck.
It was on 18 and just like slowly tipped to 5.
Fuck.
[00:53:20] Speaker A: Oh no.
Yes, your forearm. You know, to be honest, Beleg, as you reach through the trapdoor, I mean this is like the second time you've seen Zozo fly through trapdoors. You've flown through the trapdoors. This was just becoming like rote. But it's your forearm just below the elbow. Just like Oldfoot.
[00:53:47] Speaker B: Hmm.
[00:53:47] Speaker E: At least, I guess this means that I'm the Luke Skywalker of the group.
