Episode Transcript
[00:00:02] Speaker A: Welcome, friends and adventurers, to another episode of Dungeons and Blackguards. I am your dungeon master, Robulon. Joining me in no particular order, are the players.
Tomo.
[00:00:18] Speaker B: I am playing Steve Peheman, Level 5 Gloomstalker. Ranger Fighter, Level 2, Rogue, Level 1. I have an owl.
[00:00:28] Speaker A: Brandon.
[00:00:30] Speaker C: I am ikarutpuy Schlage, Level 8 Blood Hunter, half orc. And I have breast enhancements.
[00:00:39] Speaker A: Braden.
[00:00:41] Speaker B: Hey, I'm Braden. I play Beleague Degar, half elf. Hexblade warlock, level eight, Eric.
[00:00:49] Speaker A: I'm Eric.
[00:00:50] Speaker D: I play Dr. Zozo brightfeather, a level eight narakocra artificer.
[00:00:55] Speaker A: And last but not least, Caleb.
[00:01:00] Speaker E: I am the construct, Kaito Hatata.
And I am a level 8 warforged barbarian.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: Previously on Dungeons and Blackguards. Rook and Kaitoa awaken Rook to chop a rook, actually. Right? In fact, because of Raven and Crow, you could also call it a Rook. Kaitoa to wrestle with Oldfoot.
The party now rejoined in the ruined not the white chain. Then engage in some arcane alchemical surgery on the ancient construct Kaitoata, fitting Nafre's spirit wood amulet into his chest.
Now the five party members depart for Hewgill Castle, bypassing the curious crowds who have formed in the square of the Temple of Dan. Following the Clay Golem's carnage at the castle, they find two factions engaged.
The castle guard and the city soldiers, led by none other than Sandret.
Blades are drawn already, and the party enters the fray, along with two swarms of ravens that descend from directly above within Hewgill Castle's tallest tower, Kenku's observatory.
So, Rook, you are at the top of the order. And perhaps I will quickly remind you, the dwarven warden of the castle with her ceramic dragon mask and her two knights, the Hugo Castle knights, the flanker. She's been scorched. One of them's been scorched. And you are engaged at close range. The person closest is Kaitoa, and then Beleg, and then Steve, and then Zozo hovering above.
[00:03:22] Speaker C: Okay, she's. She's not dead though, right?
[00:03:26] Speaker A: No.
A wounded, damaged opponent for sure, though.
[00:03:32] Speaker C: Hey, let's finish the job.
[00:03:35] Speaker A: Yay. Roll on AC.
[00:03:38] Speaker C: So my first one, there's a 19.
[00:03:43] Speaker A: That does not hit.
[00:03:45] Speaker C: Oh, that's right. She was 20.
She was 20. All right. Second one is a 25.
[00:03:54] Speaker E: That would hit.
[00:03:56] Speaker B: Jesus.
[00:03:58] Speaker A: Your second hit is connecting. And the full plate mail. And the ceramic mask and this person's defenses, right? You crashed through them before. You are rebuffed. But Once.
And now you strike home. Deal. Damage.
[00:04:14] Speaker C: This one's the old Voltaic machete.
[00:04:18] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:04:18] Speaker C: Floor we are.
That's a 10.
[00:04:23] Speaker A: Well, where would you say you deliver a piercing blow?
[00:04:29] Speaker C: Piercing is. I'm going for the throat.
[00:04:34] Speaker B: Rook.
[00:04:34] Speaker A: As you strike for the throat, this adversary here screams out as you connect in the very same moment.
Kill the Carter mask and you behead the castle warden.
[00:04:58] Speaker E: Yeah, what was her name?
[00:05:01] Speaker C: Castle winch.
[00:05:06] Speaker A: Oh, my God. You killed my boss.
What the fuck?
And Dante runs up.
Her name was Weeta.
What is going on here? And the two knights march up on you, rook. Anything else in your move?
[00:05:30] Speaker C: Heck yeah. I'm going after one of them.
[00:05:33] Speaker A: You do not need to move at all. You know, one of them was scorched, and the other one was approaching you. So the scorched one is about 10ft away, not within your melee range. The other one is. Entered your range.
[00:05:46] Speaker C: And then I'm going after him.
Whoever's in my brain.
[00:05:52] Speaker A: Okay, Roll on ac. Non scorched. Hughill castle knight.
[00:06:00] Speaker C: I'm using an inspo on that one. I rolled a natty one.
[00:06:05] Speaker A: You know, you're gonna have to give a description of how this actually carries off.
[00:06:11] Speaker C: 17.
[00:06:13] Speaker A: Okay, can you please describe, rook, how you correct your initial attack to deliver this blow? That does connect?
[00:06:27] Speaker C: As I go to turn, I get a spritz of blood in my eye from the castle winch There.
It blinds me temporarily, and then I have to wipe it clear.
Then I came correct.
[00:06:42] Speaker A: It's a perfect description. As you whip around deal damage. You have found a partition between the armor plates of this knight. And they wear, you know, sort of a dull gray armor, and they have this large blue shield of Polb.
[00:07:03] Speaker C: That is a nine damage.
[00:07:06] Speaker A: Where was the area that you pierced?
[00:07:10] Speaker C: I'm going trying to de arm. So whichever arm he's carrying is, I.
[00:07:16] Speaker B: Will give you a hand.
[00:07:18] Speaker A: And it will be the sword hand. It comes right off.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's my sword. Ay, party. You are witnessing a bloodbath. Rook has decapitated the warden of the castle. A dwarven lady in a ceramic. A black ceramic dragon mask. Then he moves on to a knight and takes their hand off.
[00:07:49] Speaker C: Can I just quickly survey? These are the only two guys around me, right? There's nobody else.
[00:07:57] Speaker A: Yes. El Scorcho and El Deando.
Okay.
[00:08:04] Speaker C: I think I'm. Yeah, I guess that's all I.
[00:08:08] Speaker A: Okay. Next up in initiative is Kaitoa. And you stand just between the two defeated swarms of ravens smashed against the castle exterior walls. And then Rook and his fracas.
[00:08:28] Speaker C: Were.
[00:08:29] Speaker E: El Scorcho and Alejandro, Were they reacting. How were they reacting to Rook's destruction of Widow?
[00:08:41] Speaker A: Well, one of them is regarding his missing hand.
And El Scorcho is still bearing down on Rook.
[00:08:52] Speaker E: I have a readied crossbow that I was prepping for the ravens.
I'm gonna let it rip at Scorcho's head.
[00:09:02] Speaker A: Okay. And as you do so, you hear him exclaim in a loud voice, kill the quartermaster and his party.
[00:09:15] Speaker E: Good luck, Scorcho.
Oh, 24.
[00:09:24] Speaker A: No problem. Roll damage as your no bow.
[00:09:29] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:09:29] Speaker A: Nobo bolt strikes home.
[00:09:32] Speaker E: Yeah. D10.
[00:09:34] Speaker A: Kaito arranged. I'm so unprepared for that.
[00:09:37] Speaker E: I know. I already had it cocked and ready to go, so. I know.
[00:09:41] Speaker A: Rock.
[00:09:43] Speaker E: D8.
My Dex 2. So a 10, and it strikes him.
[00:09:52] Speaker A: Right in the cheek.
[00:09:56] Speaker E: Like, as he yells, kill the quarter.
And, like, pierces his jaw.
[00:10:03] Speaker A: It is like deja vu. This is the second time you have seen one of these people with the exact same vocabulary on their lips.
El Scorcho is down. Okay, what else in your move?
[00:10:19] Speaker E: I am going to ready Vodog for my bonus action.
Because, like, I use my action to shoot Scorcho, my secondary. I am, like, writing Bodog my bonus. I'm gonna look up and check out the Kenku tower.
[00:10:41] Speaker A: Kaitoa, as you look up with your construct eyes, you see a glint. It's like a glass is reflecting the afternoon sun right back down at Unn, you are momentarily blinded.
[00:11:00] Speaker E: Do I see anything else as I peer up before I actually make contact?
Is there anything like. Yes, I look up before I see the glimmer. I would be able to see like. Like a body.
[00:11:13] Speaker A: Oh, you. You see a head and a curious, round, wide, brimmed hat.
[00:11:24] Speaker E: But do I. Is there any feature before I make contact with the glimmer of like.
Like, clothing?
[00:11:32] Speaker A: You did see sort of a long beak and then a strange round hat, and then the glimmer, and then you were blinded.
All right, Steve, you are up in. Oh, sorry. No. Sandra and his men are up in initiative. And, guys, you now notice just from around the corner of the south gatehouse, right? I mean, these castle walls carry round into a courtyard. As you look around to the southwest gatehouse, it looks like Sandra's dozen or so men have been engaged by another swarm of ravens.
And then, Steve, you are up.
[00:12:11] Speaker E: Steve, you are up.
[00:12:14] Speaker B: All right, so Sandra and his boys are fighting some more crows just shot at.
[00:12:23] Speaker E: I just took out Scorcho.
[00:12:26] Speaker B: Okay, so there's really just one left.
[00:12:29] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:30] Speaker E: Alejandro, by Rook.
[00:12:32] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:12:33] Speaker B: Okay, and what else is. What else is in the area? Is that it?
[00:12:38] Speaker A: Roll a perception potential.
[00:12:41] Speaker B: That is a 24.
[00:12:45] Speaker A: You also see the glint of light up at the tallest tower here on Hugo Castle. And there are no ravens left up there. It seems like any swarms of ravens are sort of out in the courtyard attacking Sandra. Steve.
[00:13:02] Speaker E: So would my bonus action. Actually, can I do a verbal action to Steve to be like, there's a big dude up there shining some light?
[00:13:12] Speaker A: You just did.
[00:13:14] Speaker B: How far up. How far up is this? So I know it's a sunny day. I'm going to shield my eyes from the sun while looking up.
[00:13:25] Speaker A: It is about 55ft up. And as you shield your eyes, you get a good look at a silhouette up there in the observatory tower. And it does indeed look like a beast figure with a strange hat.
Wide, wide brimmed, but very flat.
And as you look around at the rest of the conflagration here at the entrance here to the gatehouse, you see Rook, you see blood. And your party at the moment is, you know, frozen in bullet time still.
[00:14:01] Speaker B: Okay, well, so I'm going to use the hide action to go into stealth.
[00:14:07] Speaker A: Is that your main action?
[00:14:09] Speaker B: I'm gonna ghost in the shell.
[00:14:11] Speaker A: Steve, is there anywhere you would like to use your now almost invisible form to go? Are you. Do you want to approach any member of the party? Do you want to go towards, you know, the castle? Do you want to go towards the tower? What are you doing?
[00:14:29] Speaker B: Goal is to get to the tower, so I want to start heading that way.
[00:14:33] Speaker A: Okay. You know, you guys have been in Hugo Castle. It's two winding staircases up.
[00:14:41] Speaker B: I'm going to start heading that way.
[00:14:43] Speaker A: Okay, can you make a dexterity roll as you sonic the hedgehog past Rook through the blood pools?
Yay.
[00:14:51] Speaker B: Just a standard dex check.
[00:14:53] Speaker A: Yeah, unless there's anything you can add to that for proficiency.
[00:14:58] Speaker B: Well, I guess if I'm stealth, I don't know. Probably the best way.
[00:15:00] Speaker A: Just.
[00:15:01] Speaker B: Just standard decks.
[00:15:02] Speaker A: I'll tell you what, I'll give you advantage because you are in the urban poncho.
[00:15:06] Speaker B: You have declared stealth is 15 plus 6 for 21.
[00:15:12] Speaker A: Okay, you have rolled past Rook and you look down the corridor to the spiral staircase leading up to the observatory tower. Then that's a 60 foot dash. But now you've expended, say, all of your movement. Is there anything else in your move? I'd say you might have sort of a little tiny bonus sort of interaction free action.
[00:15:35] Speaker B: No good. I'm just gonna head towards the tower.
[00:15:38] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:15:39] Speaker A: And then Stolas is three in initiative or four initiative away from you down at 12. And Beleg, you are up Beleg following the story.
And guys, you see Beleg, you know, put his hands over his ears. He drops his weapon. It clatters at the ground. And he's muttering some nonsense and he slams into the ground.
Zozo, you are up.
[00:16:26] Speaker D: Okay, I think I want to check on Beleg.
[00:16:32] Speaker A: You would swoop down to him then?
[00:16:34] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:16:36] Speaker A: Okay. Would you like to roll something on that? I'd say you've used 15ft of your movement now to sort of land besides this collapsed half elf warlock.
[00:16:48] Speaker D: Okay, yeah, I'll roll medicine to see if he's medically sound.
That is a 23.
[00:16:59] Speaker A: He is not medically sound.
This person is looking like their eyes have rolled back in their head. They seem to be in some sort of a trance.
So you diagnose immediately. It does not seem to be a physical affliction in any way.
[00:17:21] Speaker D: Okay, I give him a slap.
[00:17:24] Speaker A: Okay, can you roll a 1d4 and everybody witnesses Zozo take her first party 1d4 sword.
[00:17:36] Speaker D: That's a three.
[00:17:39] Speaker A: Welcome to the party. You just dealt three damage, but you did have the intended effect.
Beleg seems to be movable. He wakes a little bit, but still he is muttering some nonsense. But it seems like Zozo, you have woken him.
[00:18:03] Speaker D: Okay.
All right, I think I'm going to.
I'm gonna fly up towards the tower.
Yeah, follow Steve.
[00:18:18] Speaker E: I'll take care of Belly.
[00:18:20] Speaker D: Okay. All right. Yeah, yeah. I'm gonna fly up and try to get up there as Steve takes the other route.
[00:18:30] Speaker A: Okay. Kaitoa, as you burn the interaction of your next move and shout, follow Steve. That's what's happening. Zozo, you're going up on the outside. Steve, you're on the inside. Zozo used 15. Is your flight speed do you have 60 within a move?
[00:18:48] Speaker D: 50.
[00:18:49] Speaker A: 50. Well, then you are just within like 5 or 10ft of the ledge of the observatory tower. And it does terminate in a little stone L.
And now there are, you know, wooden window frames and actually very well glazed glass. But, you know, you have not made it quite to eye level where you would hope to be.
[00:19:15] Speaker D: Okay. I think I want to. Yeah. Approach it from maybe a.
Where the. The Kenku won't be able to see me so well or target me.
[00:19:25] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:19:26] Speaker D: If they wanted to try and attack.
[00:19:29] Speaker A: Would you say perch, land or stay midair with the end of your move or movement?
[00:19:38] Speaker D: I think, yeah, I think I'll stay midair.
[00:19:41] Speaker A: Okay, you flutter there quietly and as stealthily as possible. Can you roll a stealth check, Dr. Zozo?
[00:19:50] Speaker D: Okay, that is 15.
[00:19:54] Speaker A: Oh, beats it. Beats it.
But you do hear an odd sort of jingling. It sounds like a wind chime. What is that? One of the windows is open. Probably the same one that that figure was peering out of the blinded Kaitoa.
[00:20:15] Speaker D: Okay. Oh, yeah. I'm gonna wait there until I think Steve. Steve will be closer.
[00:20:22] Speaker A: Okay.
And in fact, Dolas, you're now up on deck next. Is there anything else, Zozo?
[00:20:30] Speaker D: Did I use my main action there?
No.
Okay, I think I'm gonna give myself a healing potion.
[00:20:39] Speaker A: All right. You want to administer a on the fly healing potion? Go for it.
[00:20:45] Speaker D: Yes. So that's the healing draft. Gives me 2D8 plus 4.
[00:20:50] Speaker A: 2D8 plus 4. Wow.
You have a healer in the party. And Zozo, what happens when you heal yourself? Can you please describe it? That's a lot of hit points restored.
[00:21:05] Speaker D: Yeah, I rolled 14.
So I think. Yeah, she pulls out a vial and stuffs some roots and leaves in there, shakes it all up and then.
And just like. Yeah, downs it like a shot.
It's pretty strong, I think. I think it kind of coughs a bit and.
[00:21:25] Speaker E: But then tastes awful.
[00:21:27] Speaker B: But it works.
[00:21:28] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, it tastes awful, but it works.
So. And then, yeah, the. The bleeding stops and. And starts to feel invigorated.
[00:21:39] Speaker A: All that in mid air. Dr. Zozo. Brightfeather.
Yeah, Amazing. Okay.
[00:21:46] Speaker D: She uses her talons for a lot of things too. So she's kind of passing between her wings and her talons.
[00:21:51] Speaker A: Oh, it's the sip and grip.
The sip and grip.
And you are now sort of. What did we say? Ending your move. Hovering, fluttering under the eaves, trying not to be noticed. Just below the observatory windows.
Yeah, beautiful. Next, Stolas.
[00:22:19] Speaker B: Solas can move.
Move speed is 60.
Yeah. So wherever Steve is headed, he's headed into the.
Into this building here.
The door is open. I'm not sure like it's. This is where these guys came from. Perhaps the guys that we're fighting right now.
[00:22:41] Speaker A: Well, as you dash through this area of Hugo Castle is not the area that you and the party have been in before.
About nine or ten days ago.
So all you can see, Steve, is a staircase up and a fairly empty hallway. As you look to your left, you do see what looks like a guard armory.
[00:23:07] Speaker B: Okay. Okay. So I think while Stolas regular move is gonna be double what Steve had. So what I'm gonna do with Stolas is fly in as, as a little bit of reconnaissance through the building. Steve on the exterior, Steve isn't walking into, into a trap.
[00:23:24] Speaker A: So with Steve in the building, the.
[00:23:27] Speaker B: Owl flies, flies past Steve and further into the building.
[00:23:32] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, nice. Okay, well where are you sending Stolas into the, you know, you essentially have up the spiral staircase or elsewhere?
[00:23:43] Speaker B: Well, we are, we are trying to get to this tower. So towards the, towards the spiral staircase, I guess.
[00:23:51] Speaker A: Stolas the owl flies past you and up to the spiral staircase. You will actually clear all, you know, those stairs and levels. They spiral upwards to the left like a good castle should. And now you reach a blocked door, a huge wooden door with only about a five by five sort of foot pad or landing up here. Interestingly, there is a glass window up on top of the door, but it is quite high up. It is about nine or ten feet up. But there you are, Steve, at the bottom of the spiral staircase. Assured the owl has cleared your way.
Are you still there, Steve Stolas, can you make a dexterity saving throw? You have triggered a trap midair. There are darts, tiny flechettes flying out at Stolas. There are dozens of them.
[00:24:58] Speaker C: All right.
[00:25:04] Speaker A: Deck saving 3.
[00:25:06] Speaker B: 21.
[00:25:07] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:25:09] Speaker E: Oh.
[00:25:10] Speaker A: You will only take half damage.
[00:25:13] Speaker B: Oh, that's still gonna kill.
[00:25:18] Speaker A: Eight. And four is 12.
[00:25:20] Speaker B: That's a 12.
[00:25:22] Speaker A: What is Dolus HP?
[00:25:24] Speaker B: Yeah, it's 16.
But he took six because it was half right.
[00:25:28] Speaker A: Exactly. And these tiny flechettes pierced the owl. But he's, I mean, still flying still midair. And now up in this kind of, you know, foot pad landing area at the top of the spiral staircase. Stolas, anything else in your move?
[00:25:42] Speaker B: Better Stolas than Steve.
[00:25:44] Speaker A: Ethereal plane.
[00:25:48] Speaker B: He's triggered all the traps off for me.
[00:25:52] Speaker E: The ethereal rogue.
[00:25:54] Speaker B: Rob, may I ask, Rudolph, the, the, the, the traps, would I be able to glean that from.
[00:26:05] Speaker A: Steve? You and I have a very close connection and your combined animal insight and primeval awareness and connection with Stolas.
[00:26:23] Speaker B: How'd he get dirt it?
[00:26:25] Speaker A: You mean you want to know?
Does Steve know it was a dart trap?
Yes, absolutely. You know that it was a tiny spring loaded dart trap and there is a big old door with a little glass window above it leading to the observatory of the Kenku in Hugill Castle.
And now?
Well, it depends, rook.
You're at the top of the party's order.
And there used to be a warden to act, and there used to be two nights, but now there is Three quarters or maybe seven, eight of a knight.
And he is going to act that Alejandro. That is Alejand les row.
[00:27:24] Speaker C: Is he trying to bite me or something?
[00:27:26] Speaker A: Well, he did not kicking you in the shins. Okay, what are you gonna do? Bleed on me? You know, they say they let the dice tell the story and he did not do well.
So actually he is in a pathetic sort of mood. And still he is witnessing his stump with truly non medically accurate amounts of blood coming out.
And rook, you are up.
[00:28:00] Speaker C: Let's see if I can't put him out of his misery.
[00:28:03] Speaker A: Oh, he does say one thing though, as you say that and mutter under your breath, let's put him out of his misery, he says.
Kill the quartermaster and his party.
And another arterial spray comes up and coats him in the face.
[00:28:26] Speaker C: Oh, this is gonna be nasty.
I rolled a nat 20 on my first one and a 9. Well, so that'll make it a 26. And then my other one's a 25.
[00:28:40] Speaker A: As the plume of crimson sprays up, you come at him.
And I do think this double damage dice is going to be probably life ending.
[00:28:55] Speaker C: That's gonna be 19.
[00:28:57] Speaker A: Total damage on the blade of the city.
[00:29:01] Speaker C: Bergen's blade.
[00:29:04] Speaker A: Can you describe what happens?
[00:29:08] Speaker C: I'd say as he was uttering those kill the quarter master words again, I came from behind and just sliced from the back of his neck forward.
And as I did that, his head came off. Kick at it like a soccer ball.
[00:29:26] Speaker A: Why not? I looking at this scene, I haven't seen this much blood since the Goblin Wars.
[00:29:36] Speaker C: Yeah, not bad.
[00:29:36] Speaker A: Hey, turn me around though. I've been staring at this messenger in the cyan tunic cowering here. Pick up a blade, son.
And you know, old foot now with half his teeth missing on Rook's back in shambles. Pretty much concludes his turn. Although, watch out. He's gonna roll that monologue dice.
No, that's not perfect.
Anything else in your move, Rook?
[00:30:11] Speaker C: Sandra and his guys are still taking care of those crows.
[00:30:14] Speaker A: You cannot see that. Only you in the entrance way here of the south gatehouse would not be able to see. You know that there is still a little bit of crow action.
[00:30:29] Speaker C: Kaito is still around, right?
[00:30:33] Speaker A: Yep. Correct. Kaito is like within your 5, 10ft. Dante, you know, cowers there with his knees around his face. And his, you know, cyan tunic is virtually unrecognizable. Mostly red.
[00:30:48] Speaker C: Hey, Dante, don't worry about it, bud. I've always been your boss. I'm not gonna fire you.
[00:30:55] Speaker A: It's not. I'm not even supposed to be here today.
[00:31:01] Speaker C: You're never supposed to be here.
[00:31:04] Speaker A: Yeah, and he is a mess.
Absolutely unable to form a sentence. Except for this.
And that concludes his move.
[00:31:20] Speaker C: Well, Dante, all I've got to say is. You heard them say that they wanted to kill me. So had to do what I had to do. You can take the rest of the day off.
[00:31:28] Speaker B: It was in self defense.
[00:31:33] Speaker C: Look to Kaito and say where did Steve and Zo.
[00:31:41] Speaker A: And Rook takes an arrow to the back of the head.
Oh, Rook, can you roll a dexterity saving throw? And this will half the damage.
Your AC is well below 20, correct?
[00:32:00] Speaker C: Yes.
[00:32:01] Speaker A: Okay. And as you're saying this, there's totally still an angle between the Kenu's observatory, you know, and down to the south gate house. It is the perfect angle.
Ouchie.
[00:32:15] Speaker C: 20.
[00:32:16] Speaker A: Did you say a nat 20 or a non natty 20? Eruk Punchle?
[00:32:23] Speaker C: Non natty 20.
[00:32:25] Speaker A: Well, you're gonna half that damage. But guess what? The damage was 2:20.
[00:32:32] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:32:34] Speaker A: And this bolt is like a threaded steel rod. It has barbs.
This is not a nice munition.
[00:32:47] Speaker C: Wouldn't Old foot take that instead of me?
[00:32:50] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:32:50] Speaker B: Like tell you that someone's shooting an.
[00:32:52] Speaker E: Alley of the head.
[00:32:54] Speaker A: You would think like what we're gonna do.
[00:32:56] Speaker B: We should kill Old Foot. Let's kill him.
[00:32:58] Speaker A: Oh, okay. Okay.
Old Foot is going to take half the damage. And you are now skewered like a shish kebab.
Half a 20?
[00:33:11] Speaker C: Yeah. 10.
[00:33:13] Speaker A: And this spike has pierced you.
[00:33:17] Speaker C: Well, this just seems way off.
[00:33:20] Speaker A: So next in initiative is our good friend, Kaitoa. Kaitoa. Now you know that momentary blindness of course has faded away. It was just a flash. And you see everything going on. There's an enemy in the Kenku's observatory tower.
[00:33:39] Speaker E: How far am I from Beleg?
[00:33:43] Speaker A: Kaitoa? Beleg is staggering against the wall within 5ft of rook.
[00:33:50] Speaker E: I wanna. I wanna approach Beleg and pick him up.
So I'm gonna use a movement now to run to Beleg.
[00:34:01] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:34:02] Speaker E: But the distance I'm assuming is like minimal than 30ft minimum.
[00:34:08] Speaker A: No, no. You're virtually 5 to 10ft to bell Egg. Yeah.
[00:34:12] Speaker E: So I'm gonna use my action to pick him up and throw him over my shoulder.
[00:34:18] Speaker A: Okay. Can you do a strength check? But the DC is five.
[00:34:22] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:34:23] Speaker A: And your exterior construct parts here make it seem like you are scooping up a few feather.
[00:34:32] Speaker B: Oh, I'm just picking up a little baby.
[00:34:36] Speaker E: Yeah, it's a nine plus six. So yeah.
[00:34:39] Speaker D: Fifteen.
[00:34:40] Speaker A: Okay. Well you Know, Beleg is not a small man. He's a half elf. And he's got all of his gear and his weaponry. But you pick him up, no problem and throw him over your shoulder. There is now a Rook in front of you and the corridor that Steve ducked into, you know, you hook a right and then you can intuit that the tower is another 30 to 40ft away before you're actually running up a spiral staircase. Okay.
[00:35:09] Speaker E: So I'm gonna use my bonus action to look back to see if I can see where that heavy crossbow bolt that nailed ruck came from.
Eagle vision.
[00:35:25] Speaker A: It was from the Kenku's open window. And not a heavy crossbow bolt, but instead more like thin, barbed, threaded dart.
[00:35:39] Speaker E: Okay, so it shot downward.
[00:35:42] Speaker A: Yes. At a 45 degree angle. Yeah.
[00:35:44] Speaker E: Okay, I'm gonna try and push everyone in the door.
So I'm gonna push Rook in and into the tower.
[00:35:55] Speaker A: Okay. Out of the field of fire.
[00:35:59] Speaker E: Yes. I'm gonna turn myself around with fucking Belleg on my shoulder, fucking Crispak on my back.
I am now just gonna sit at the base of this tower inside the door and just be ready myself for anyone willing to come in the door. But within the door frames. So yeah, no one can come in.
[00:36:25] Speaker A: Okay. Well, Kahtoa, it is a heroic move. Kahtoa, I will give you advantage on this, but there is a trap that you have encountered right here. Around Rook and around Alejandra and around Weeta the warden, and around El Score show.
[00:36:46] Speaker E: How did anyone else trip this trap?
[00:36:48] Speaker A: Hold on. If you can simply name the trap, I will give you advantage.
Oh, what do you think you have.
[00:36:59] Speaker B: Slipped on man Flood.
[00:37:04] Speaker A: Correct.
[00:37:05] Speaker E: Oh, nice.
[00:37:08] Speaker A: Kaitoa, you will roll on advantage on the pool of blood, but you skid through with Beleg over your shoulder. You grab Rook.
[00:37:18] Speaker E: So I would with danger sense roll advantage on a Dex saving throw.
[00:37:24] Speaker A: So roll with advantage.
[00:37:29] Speaker E: I will take the 19 plus 2. So a 21.
[00:37:34] Speaker A: Hey, nobody took damage.
Yeah, not Oldfoot, not Rook, not you. Uh oh.
Belleg took 13 damage as his head smashes into the wall. He's unconscious.
[00:37:49] Speaker E: He's already unconscious, so he didn't even feel it.
[00:37:52] Speaker A: I think he's gone down a level on the consciousness chart, but ultimately you've collected the party into here. Anything else in your move?
Steve, you are on deck.
[00:38:07] Speaker E: I'm definitely facing downward towards the door and cautiously stepping up, ready to attack anything that's coming through the door. Basically securing anyone who's coming up after us.
[00:38:24] Speaker A: All right. Okay, Steve, you are up. And what's your Passive perception gone up.
[00:38:30] Speaker B: To passive perception is 19.
[00:38:33] Speaker A: Okay. You know, the metal sounds of your compatriots steps. Kaitoa is certainly only about 80ft away from you. As you dash right up the spiral staircase, you can tell he is now in the south gatehouse.
Okay, ka ching, ka ching.
[00:39:00] Speaker B: I am continuing up the staircase. I want to stay in stealth and I also want to be basically disarming traps as I go up. So I'm keeping eyes out for traps on stairs. I'm keeping eyes out for, for anything that could set it off. As we, as we head up.
[00:39:20] Speaker A: Steve, there is a plaintive hoo hooing as you reach the last 10ft of the left turning, you know, staircase here. What are you doing? You hear a sort of plaintive hoo hooing and you just now see the framework of a huge wooden door.
[00:39:42] Speaker B: All right, well I'm gonna do mutter very quietly under my breath, it's time to go home, buddy. And I, I recall Stolas back to his plane and I yeah, I'm basically scanning for traps as we go up. I want the, the road to be as clear as possible for when the rest of our guys come up.
[00:40:07] Speaker A: Okay, so you've taken Stolas back into the pocket realm and now your senses are the only things you can rely on. And as you approach that door, you feel like the two sort of, you call them little boxes or little crates of expended dart ammo, like they seem to be the only physical traps around this door. You cannot tell, you know, sort of how they were triggered, but you see this bent casings and you see little tiny darts all over the floor and the stairs that lead up to it, the stone stairs. And there's a little five by five pad that you have not stepped onto. And neither of course, did Stolas alight upon.
[00:40:57] Speaker B: Okay, and that is definitely a trapped pad.
[00:41:00] Speaker A: Can you roll some sort of perception? Trapped attack, something.
[00:41:09] Speaker B: What would that fall under?
I guess perception.
Would it fall under the same thing that I used to like the lock picks, thieves, tools kind of shit. It's just like general thievery.
[00:41:22] Speaker A: Yes, sure. Yeah, if you can figure out how that'll work, then sure.
Okay.
[00:41:28] Speaker B: Well, I mean it's certainly, certainly an easier role if I go forward. Perception. So yeah, if I'm just looking perception, I'll use perception.
[00:41:36] Speaker A: Steve.
[00:41:36] Speaker B: Taheman, roll it up 16 plus 8.
[00:41:42] Speaker A: As you look 24. The stone footpad here, the little landing as the stairs terminate, the winding stairs terminate at this big door or you're distracted. Of course, by movement, there is clearly somebody on the other side of the door. You see the shadow of their feet.
There's a rustling and there is a movement from inside. Right within. I mean this is within your sort of 5 to 10ft, Steve, as you press yourself against the spiral staircase corridor wall.
[00:42:24] Speaker B: How much? How much do I have enough time to take something out of Pouch?
[00:42:28] Speaker A: Yep, certainly.
[00:42:30] Speaker B: All right, I'm gonna take out an oil flask and I'm gonna dump it underneath the door and then I'm gonna light it.
[00:42:37] Speaker A: Classic Steve. With this final movement, can you roll a strength?
Oh, actually you have exerted the exact right amount of force to sort of achieve your aim here. But what were you hoping for? Sort of like a little like five by five pool under the door. The door is about five feet wide. It's a big door.
[00:43:07] Speaker B: Well, I was figuring if I saw the, if I saw the movement, like the shadow underneath the space at the door, I wanted to get oil underneath it like in a slick and then light that oil so that like a gentle toss, whatever was on the other side of that door, it's got like hot foot.
[00:43:25] Speaker E: Okay, the liquid under a door, the.
[00:43:28] Speaker A: Oil, you know, spreads right under that 1 inch space under this large door. And what are you lighting it with, Steve?
[00:43:39] Speaker B: My Tinder.
[00:43:40] Speaker A: Okay, a little spark comes up and I'm gonna roll 1d4 2. Okay, so that means it lights but it's not taking up the door. Like it's not like licking up the door. Immediately the pool has lit and you hear immediately a screech.
Screech.
[00:44:07] Speaker B: Fuck your feet.
[00:44:10] Speaker A: That's a good episode title.
Yo feet there. Steve, is there anything else in your move as this screech reverberates down and Kaitoa, you certainly hear this. I mean this is loud. This is a sort of a blood curdling sort of high pitched screech.
[00:44:35] Speaker B: With the understanding that portal in the door is probably something that this thing behind the door is looking at. I want to stay out of the visual range of that portal. So I'll be staying close to the wall or close to.
[00:44:50] Speaker A: You're staying away from the little glass window above the door.
[00:44:54] Speaker B: Basically staying as close as I can.
[00:44:56] Speaker A: Okay, the oil now sputters. Steve, your intended effect has worked, but I mean it's just oil on stone and it didn't light this huge door on fire. So now the oil has sputtered out, but you do not see the silhouette or the shadow of clawed feet reappear for the moment.
Dr. Zozo, you are up for the only person in front of you was Beleg. Who's over your shoulder. Kaitoa and Zozo, you're up. You are now just hearing the tail end of that screech.
[00:45:34] Speaker D: Okay, well I'm gonna take that as my cue.
So I'll.
I'm gonna fly up in front of the open window.
True lies style. My wings.
[00:45:51] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:45:53] Speaker D: My wings.
[00:45:57] Speaker E: Cemented yourself crew?
[00:45:59] Speaker D: Yeah.
What do I see in the room?
[00:46:04] Speaker A: Well, it seems like this tower has been modified slightly, Dr. Zozo. Whereas all the other towers in the castle have mostly small windows. Windows and arrow slits, here there are not one, not two, but three huge French door sized windows that can open. And you realize of course that this is not just an observatory, but the message center where the messenger ravens and pigeons take off from and are received back to. And there are some cages and there's a pigeon or two. There are some crows and ravens that do not look at all like those ones that attacked you guys. These look like sort of tame ravens in cages.
There is a telescope looking out to the north west. And there is a huge Kenku.
And his back is turned to you. And he is at the door. And a small pool of flame just extinguishes.
[00:47:20] Speaker D: Okay, so I am going to pull the shatter potion out of my pouch.
[00:47:27] Speaker A: You prepared this during the last time you had a rest.
[00:47:32] Speaker D: Yes, I did.
I'm going to hold it out and I am going to cast catapult on it.
So, catapult. I choose one object weighing up to five pounds. It flies in a straight line up to 90ft in any direction before falling to the ground.
It stops early if it hits a solid surface.
If the object would strike a creature, it must make a dexterity save.
And anything it strikes takes 3d8 bludgeoning damage.
[00:48:03] Speaker A: Okay. He will have it at disadvantage because you have surprised them.
11.
[00:48:11] Speaker D: Okay. So yeah, it would have been 14 for me.
[00:48:15] Speaker A: Well, yeah, we're always trying to beat your 14. No. Caught totally unawares, Dr. Zozo. Brightfeather, your foe. And by the way, this is a uncommonly tall Kenku. Totally cloaked. You cannot see a feather.
[00:48:34] Speaker D: Okay, so while being hit by the potion does 3d8 damage and then as soon as the the bottle breaks, it casts shatter.
[00:48:46] Speaker A: Oh my God.
[00:48:49] Speaker E: Yes.
[00:48:52] Speaker A: Where's the party horn app?
Dr. Zozo, can you deal?
Can you deal those in order?
[00:49:03] Speaker D: Yes. Okay, so for the catapult.
[00:49:09] Speaker B: I still have it on my phone.
[00:49:16] Speaker D: Okay, so from party horn from the catapult that caused 16 damage.
[00:49:23] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:49:23] Speaker D: And Then. So for Shatter, they get to make a constitution saving throw.
[00:49:30] Speaker A: Okay.
Nine.
No, it's not even close.
[00:49:35] Speaker D: Okay, so now they take 3D8. Thunder damage from Shatter.
[00:49:41] Speaker B: Blows up too.
[00:49:43] Speaker D: 3D8, that's 14 damage from Shatter.
[00:49:48] Speaker A: Okay, Stolas, you are on deck, but you are in the nether realm.
Dr. Zozo, can you describe. And then Rook, you're on deck after Stolas, whose Stolas is kind of out for the count.
Zozo, can you describe how I.
[00:50:09] Speaker E: Wait before this happens? I like turn Beleg's head on my shoulder towards the door to listen to what happens.
[00:50:20] Speaker A: It's coming through the door. Oh yeah, the sound is definitely coming through the door.
[00:50:24] Speaker E: I turned Belleg's head to just hear this happen.
[00:50:28] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:50:29] Speaker E: Comatose envy.
[00:50:32] Speaker D: So, yeah, I think. I think Zozo holds the bottle up in front of her, lets go of it and hangs in the air for a second and then just shoots like a crossbow bolt into the back of the kenku.
I think the kenku staggers for a second and then starts to turn. And then the spell goes off and I think the kenku just gets tossed across the room by it.
[00:50:59] Speaker A: And Dr. Zozo, as all of the layers of this Kanku master's costume are blasted off of them. You see underneath, it looks like he was almost wearing. What is this?
Goggles and a mask. You know, all of his cloaks were black and it looks like he was almost wearing a Plague Doctor style mask over his beak.
Why would he do that?
He is underneath totally albino and huge.
This Kenku stands at least 8ft tall, but no standing for him anymore.
He is crumpled against the corner of his desk.
Anything else in your move?
[00:52:00] Speaker D: I think I'll leave it there.
[00:52:04] Speaker A: Okay, Stolas is up, but sort of. We're going to pass. And then Rook, you're up.
[00:52:10] Speaker E: Rook got hit by a bolt in the back head.
[00:52:14] Speaker A: We may have clearly lost Rook because he was hit by that bolt in the back of the head. Kaitoa, you dragged him into the South Gate house, correct?
Yeah, yeah, you dragged. I'm still here.
Hey, you pulled him out.
You pulled him out of the blood pool. And Rook, your face is literally covered in dark blood. The only thing that we see is the whites of your eyes open amongst your blood mask.
[00:52:50] Speaker E: I smear the blood from Rook's face and like shake him.
[00:52:56] Speaker C: I don't even know what hit me.
[00:52:58] Speaker E: No, you're just battle fatigued, covered in blood.
[00:53:04] Speaker B: Is it bad? That's just a giant dart sticking out of its head. No, you're good man.
[00:53:09] Speaker C: All right.
[00:53:10] Speaker A: Can you roll a perception or a medicine? Your choice. Medicine or perception?
[00:53:16] Speaker C: Medicine or perception?
Perception.
It's both the same. Nine.
[00:53:24] Speaker A: Nine.
Okay, so you've added your modifiers?
[00:53:28] Speaker B: Yes, sir.
[00:53:29] Speaker A: Okay. And your total is under 10. So as you feel about your head and you know Kaitoa there is just mounting up the spiral staircase to the Kenku's observatory tower.
You feel there's a throbbing in the back of your unhelmed head.
Hmm.
[00:53:50] Speaker C: Must be a headache or just, you know, something.
[00:53:53] Speaker A: Who can say?
[00:53:54] Speaker C: Is the old foot still kicking?
[00:53:57] Speaker A: I have a threaded steel rod bobbed and impaled through my upper shoulder. And it seems to also have deflected into your cranium.
Fuck.
[00:54:12] Speaker C: Why didn't you stop it?
[00:54:14] Speaker A: I only have no hands.
[00:54:18] Speaker C: Okay, well, should we go up with Kaitoa?
[00:54:23] Speaker A: Why not? I pierced in the head by a steel dart.
And Oldfoot is sort of terrifying now. Rook, you know, with no teeth. And he's been drunk all day. He's had like two anti drunk Zozo Werther's candies. He's tasted blood. I mean, he's looking a little wild.
[00:54:48] Speaker E: As old foot's shoulder is pinned to Rook's head.
[00:54:54] Speaker C: Been a wild day, Rook.
[00:54:57] Speaker A: Indeed. What are you doing? You have full movement, full h agency. You've been damaged, but I mean you're. You're up an atom. You are able to jump into the.
[00:55:07] Speaker E: Fray and at them.
[00:55:10] Speaker A: Robin.
[00:55:13] Speaker C: I'll be. I'll go up, fall Kaito up the stairs.
[00:55:17] Speaker A: You would make it up to virtually where Steve is. And now there is a huge concussion blow from behind the door here. Rook, you know, as you make it up to where Kaitoa and Steve are kind of crowding around, you hear Beleg's shatter.
The characteristic shatter. But wait, Beleg is over Kaitoa's arm and Kaitoa's like turning his chin towards the door. But all of a sudden, you know, you realize in the silence here that the door only remains between you and whatever has happened behind it.
And that, friends and adventurers, is where I gotta take a pee break.
[00:56:06] Speaker E: Oh, you're gonna kill the episode.
[00:56:08] Speaker A: And I was like you, Ross.
Okay, no, but that is the spiritual. That is the spiritual end of the episode. Yes.
And that is where we will have to leave you. Until the next time on Dungeons and Blackguards.
Sam Sa.
