Episode Transcript
[00:00:01] Speaker A: Welcome, friends and adventurers to another episode of Dungeons and Blackguards. I am your dungeon master, Robulon. Joining me in no particular order are the players.
Tomo.
[00:00:17] Speaker B: I am playing Steve Tehuman, Level 5 Gloomstalker. Ranger Fighter, Level 2, Rogue, Level 1. I have an owl.
[00:00:27] Speaker A: Brandon.
[00:00:29] Speaker C: I am Ikarutpuislay, Level 8 Blood Hunter, Half orc. And I have breast enhancements.
[00:00:39] Speaker D: Brayden.
[00:00:40] Speaker E: Hey. I'm Braden. I play Beleague Degar, half elf. Hexblade warlock, level eight.
[00:00:47] Speaker A: Eric.
[00:00:48] Speaker F: I'm Eric. I play Dr. Zozo brightfeather, a level eight narakocra artificer.
[00:00:54] Speaker A: And last but not least, Caleb.
[00:00:59] Speaker D: I am the construct Kaitohe Tata. And I am a level 8 warforged barbarian.
[00:01:11] Speaker A: Previously on Dungeons and Blackguards. The party is surprised by the crashing in literally of Zozo Bright Feather. After the aerial collision and miraculous non smashing into the ground, A cautious friendship is forged between this new personage. And they even forge a particular bond with Kaitoata, ancient warforged barbarian on whom they perform repairs.
There is a minor incident before and after Steve walks back to the alchemists guild past the temple of Dan, where a local babe and their mother or grandmother is in need of healing. Those arts are performed by the new face on the block, who is often mistaken for a birdman. Back at the White Chain in the morning, Beleg impromptu prepares a brunch and feeds not just the party, but Dante the messenger, who has two important messages. All we need to know is that Gurm has been summoned. And also the emissary from the wizard's guild has been summoned to the new seat of power in Polb.
And then as traffic starts to pick up around the temple, Doug the half tongue, half orc stable servant alerts the party to lizards. And then at the very same bridge that Kaitoa was attacked only nine hours ago, a boat is caught in the space between the stars where Hadar dwells. And now emerging from the sphere of darkness which does inhabit the entire volume, underneath this stone hewn bridge is a body.
And this is now the kobold's turn.
Oh boy.
[00:03:36] Speaker D: Can we refer to the wizards guild as the Brass?
[00:03:40] Speaker E: The Brass?
[00:03:42] Speaker D: Fuck the Brass.
[00:03:44] Speaker A: Fuck the Brass.
Oh, I like that. I might use that. Might be canon.
[00:03:50] Speaker D: Really? They're sticks.
[00:03:53] Speaker E: Was it like a non kobold body under the bridge?
[00:03:57] Speaker A: Well, let's see. Bella and Dr. Zozo, you would have the view of a pinkish skinned kobold body now being carried out. And although the kobold little vessel here with the one stabilizing pontoon. Is dashed into pieces. And caught by Steve's grappling hook. And ridden by Kaitoa Tata.
And entrapped in the slurping hunger of Hedar by Beleg Warlock. There appear to be. Along with the screams and this terrible noise coming out of their bodies. Now there is another one. And this is a different colored kobold corpse. This seems to be a little greener. And both of these creatures are now being taken along swiftly to the river polled from this canal. And then you hear a sound. All of you would hear this sound amongst the slurping of cosmic noodles.
Who's up at the top of the order? Dr. Zozo. With your curious eyes. These kobold bodies. Oh boy. Have you seen kobolds before? Can you roll a 1D4?
[00:05:22] Speaker D: Okay, we have Dr. Zozo.
[00:05:26] Speaker F: That's a 4.
[00:05:28] Speaker A: You have definitely a familiarity with the Kobold race. And you were witness to the battle of Polb Plaza. Where it was as the townsfolk say. As the rumors are spreading outside the city. It wasn't imaginary monsters. There were gnolls and kobolds in the city. As you saw just about five days ago. As you were perched atop one of the buildings during that frightful battle. Okay, at the top of the order then, Steve. And following you, Stolas.
[00:06:16] Speaker B: Yes.
So I. Okay. I'm over on this side here.
All right. So that's what little. Little baby corpses are floating out there.
And I guess I'm on the other side of the bridge.
And the hunger of Hadar is still slurping, slurping and demonic realm.
[00:06:37] Speaker A: I always let Beleg draw the radius of hunger of Hadar.
[00:06:44] Speaker E: I'm drawing the radius of it.
[00:06:45] Speaker D: Please.
[00:06:46] Speaker E: Okay, let's see.
[00:06:48] Speaker D: See how I'm in it.
[00:06:51] Speaker E: Is that 20 foot radius there?
[00:06:54] Speaker D: I believe it should be at the back of the bridge too.
[00:06:59] Speaker B: And we cannot see within that. Is that the. The issue?
[00:07:04] Speaker A: Just under your feet, Rook. And Steve. You see the black nothingness almost underneath the cobblestones. In some areas there's almost a pool of a bit of the sphere of Hadar. Kaitoa, you are in the nightmare. When we get to you. Oh boy. And beleg, you're about 10ft away from that sphere that is now sort of released a couple of bodies.
[00:07:34] Speaker D: How deep is the water?
[00:07:37] Speaker A: Yeah, great question. This canal? I guess we'll find out.
[00:07:42] Speaker B: So for Steve.
[00:07:43] Speaker D: No, just tell me. Robin.
[00:07:46] Speaker B: Steve is gonna go and hop up on the edge of the bridge here to get a better view of the little floating babies.
[00:07:55] Speaker E: There.
[00:07:56] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:07:56] Speaker E: Floating babies.
[00:07:58] Speaker A: Can you roll a strength, Steve, your strong suit strength.
[00:08:06] Speaker B: Just a standard strength Check. Okay.
That's pretty fantastic. That's a ten.
[00:08:15] Speaker A: That's ten.
[00:08:16] Speaker B: That's ten.
[00:08:17] Speaker D: That'S a ten.
[00:08:19] Speaker C: Ten.
[00:08:20] Speaker E: Four.
[00:08:21] Speaker D: Hitting all 10,000 taste buds.
[00:08:23] Speaker A: Well, Steve, it's so cold today. In the morning here. And as you look at Beleg, he is drenched. And that was you assessing your own strength. As you do when you see a party member in need of help.
[00:08:43] Speaker E: Don't worry about it.
[00:08:44] Speaker A: But Beleg, you know, with your adventurers pack. And you know the cold pull of the water. Steve, is there anything else that you're observing? You've seen the two kobold bodies go by. You see your companion, Beleg. He's got the soggy bottom all over again.
[00:09:02] Speaker C: Soggy bottom boy.
[00:09:05] Speaker E: Soggy bottom B, as they call me.
[00:09:07] Speaker B: These. These kobolds, from what I can see.
Any markings, Any particular sort of look to them that is familiar? Or this.
[00:09:18] Speaker A: Are you taking any other major action other than this sort of investigatory move?
[00:09:24] Speaker B: Nope. I. I'm checking these couples out.
[00:09:27] Speaker A: Okay, then. Roll investigation.
[00:09:31] Speaker B: May I use the power of perception?
[00:09:34] Speaker A: Yep. Sure. That'll be. Yep. More visual. Yeah.
[00:09:39] Speaker B: That is a 26.
[00:09:43] Speaker C: Oh.
[00:09:43] Speaker A: Well, you see that these comprise two distinct tribes, Steve. That you and the party have encountered. Your mind goes back to Boole and the kobolds that you ambushed in Smuggler's Cave.
[00:10:01] Speaker B: Ah.
[00:10:02] Speaker A: And you think about the conflagration in Pol Plaza.
Anything else in your move.
[00:10:11] Speaker B: Have I used? I guess I was using my action for it.
[00:10:14] Speaker A: You've used only a fraction of your movement. Because you could still dash a lot. No, you couldn't dash anymore. You've definitely used sort of the magician majority of major actions. Anything else, though?
[00:10:25] Speaker B: I wouldn't be able to ready. Ready an attack. Should anything else pop out of there.
[00:10:30] Speaker A: What would you do should your readied action be triggered?
[00:10:36] Speaker B: I'm just keeping a dagger on hand.
[00:10:39] Speaker A: Okay. I would say if something floats out of there that you want to kill, maybe you could take two actions. But not a bonus action.
One action and a bonus action. Yep.
[00:10:52] Speaker B: That's fine.
[00:10:53] Speaker A: Okay. So you're gonna hold a dagger in the form of a bonus action. And you're gonna hold a dagger in the form of a action. And you've done nothing else this turn other than dash over to the outflow side of the bridge. And you see Dr. Zozo. And you see soggy bellic. Yep.
[00:11:11] Speaker B: Yeah. And the. The boat from our last. Our last little bit. The boat has been grappled.
[00:11:19] Speaker A: And also your grappling hook attaches from the inflow side and keeps it in the sphere of Adar as far as you can last remember right before it all was obscured. And then you definitely know that this is a metal hull that will probably not come apart in bits and pieces. But you did see it sort of crumpled and rent against the underside of the bridge when Kaitoa cannonballed.
[00:11:47] Speaker B: Cool. Yeah.
I am gonna get Stolas to whip over to the opposite side here.
[00:11:58] Speaker A: Stolas takes. Is that just one move? Yep. Okay.
[00:12:03] Speaker B: So I. Yeah, basically just having him being the eyes in the sky on the other side of the. On the other side of the bridge. Just making sure there's nothing else popping up on the other end.
[00:12:14] Speaker A: So Stolas swoops back over the bridge, canal bridged back towards your guys home base. And there isn't anything else around except for. Whoa.
There's a whole bunch of onlookers gathering from the south right as Stolas has swooped over here. He would now have a great view of what is happening right down South Main Street. And there's some onlookers forming, perhaps the people who would have been crossing the canal bridge. But the sun is coming up and this canal bridge is in sunlight. But some of the alleyways are not. And then anything else in Stolas move?
Nope.
[00:13:02] Speaker B: Nope. He's good.
[00:13:03] Speaker D: Doesn't beleg have a gigantic fog.
[00:13:06] Speaker A: That would be very picturesque.
Then we do. We move on to our good friend Kaitoa sandwiched up there near the top.
[00:13:16] Speaker D: Okay. Steve was holding the boat via grappling hook from the end. I'm sitting on. Correct.
[00:13:25] Speaker A: Your perception skills are not functioning, Kaitoa.
[00:13:31] Speaker D: Just.
[00:13:32] Speaker E: So are we running like proper hunger for dart damage rules.
[00:13:39] Speaker A: Yeah, we're going to roll. Bellak, if you got a lot of.
[00:13:42] Speaker E: Dice ready, I've got some D6s that I gotta roll.
[00:13:47] Speaker A: Okay. Okay. So you see the cobalt bodies coming out there? We. We didn't have you roll damage yet. But is it the beginning or the end of their turn?
Both.
[00:14:00] Speaker D: Oh really?
[00:14:01] Speaker A: So you know Kaitoa, this is the beginning of your turn.
[00:14:05] Speaker E: So at the start of any creature, any creature that starts its turn takes 2d6 cold damage.
And any creature that ends its turn takes 2d6 acid damage. If it fails a dex check.
[00:14:17] Speaker D: You okay?
[00:14:18] Speaker A: So get that dex check ready and maybe let's have that first and just get that out of the way.
[00:14:24] Speaker E: Yeah. I rolled two ones, buddy. I rolled two ones.
[00:14:29] Speaker D: I like it.
[00:14:30] Speaker E: That's one Damage to you?
[00:14:33] Speaker D: No, I actually am not enraged right now.
[00:14:36] Speaker E: That's two damage to you.
[00:14:38] Speaker D: Yeah, I'll take it.
[00:14:40] Speaker A: Are you ready to roll some more damage? Bellak88 is.
[00:14:46] Speaker E: I'm always ready to roll more damage.
[00:14:48] Speaker A: Okay, well, here's a little bit of meta knowledge for you. But I would like you to imagine that there are maybe three distinct groups of things that you're about to roll damage on that are different bags of hit points.
[00:15:03] Speaker E: So you want me to roll three distinct sets of damage?
[00:15:06] Speaker A: Precisely. I mean, again, unless. Does Bellic have any way to know what is occurring in there? I mean, it seems like. Not.
[00:15:16] Speaker E: No, apparently not even.
Not even devil sight. To penetrate the hunger of Hadar.
[00:15:23] Speaker A: She danced. That is truly blind damage. Roll it up.
[00:15:28] Speaker D: So hungry.
[00:15:32] Speaker E: The next set of damage is 11.
[00:15:35] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:15:38] Speaker E: Next set of damage is 7.
And the last set of damage is 8.
[00:15:44] Speaker A: Yeah. So other casualties coming out here? Beleg.
[00:15:49] Speaker D: Oh boy.
[00:15:50] Speaker A: You know these little guys. That is well in excess of the kobold you have encountered. Now, Kaitoa, back to you. Is there? Oh, go on.
[00:16:02] Speaker E: So I'm. I'm finally gonna take advantage of my cursed specter. Like with hunger of Hadar.
I think I just raise it now, or say that I raise it after. I deal damage and kill something. I just want to interject and raise the specter now because I just killed something.
[00:16:19] Speaker A: Is it a reaction?
[00:16:21] Speaker E: No. So that's what I was looking up. It's not an action. It's not a reaction. The only thing it says is when you kill a humanoid, you can.
[00:16:28] Speaker A: I'll tell you what. At the outset of your turn, we'll deal with that.
[00:16:33] Speaker E: Okay? Deal.
[00:16:34] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:16:34] Speaker E: I just didn't want to miss out on the opportunity.
[00:16:36] Speaker A: And you've definitely not killed Kaitoa?
[00:16:39] Speaker E: No, no, no. But Kobolds are humanoids.
[00:16:42] Speaker A: Oh, totally.
So Kaitoa is. What can you perceive in here? It is a terrifying darkness. You do sense the material that has been sort of brought along with you. All the water surges around you. The little boat that you're straddling is underneath you. Although it is quickly sinking and you hear this rattling from inside.
[00:17:08] Speaker D: What about my prior knowledge of this river or canal? Do I know how deep it is? Just from city knowledge, you would have.
[00:17:18] Speaker A: A good sense of, I think all the depths here. The Pulba river is extremely deep. This is a wide, wide canal. So it's. I would say it's in excess of the sphere of Hadar. You could assume there's passage beneath it.
[00:17:32] Speaker D: Oh, all right.
Yeah. Because it like I'm if beleg casted it on the top of the water and on the boat. Therefore it's only 10ft down.
Being a very husky man, I'm guessing.
Yeah. And yeah, I'm just gonna.
And it's moving quite swiftly. Correct?
[00:18:08] Speaker A: What did we say? It's moving at about 60ft per six seconds. It would take you a move if there weren't this. Steve's grappling hook which actually latched just onto that strut between the main body and the pontoon. And in fact, it's very interesting. You know, this rope, Kaitoa, extends out of the darkness of Hadar. It is within your reach.
[00:18:33] Speaker D: Yeah, I'm gonna. Because I know the side of the river that they're on. I'm just gonna reach beside me and feel for the rope.
[00:18:40] Speaker A: Oh, it is so dark and the swirling slurping is preventing you from. From doing this easily. Can you please roll the, you know, skill of your choice? It has to be something perception based or dexterity based?
[00:18:57] Speaker D: Oh, perception. It's an 18.
[00:19:00] Speaker A: Okay. That's with your modifiers.
[00:19:03] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:19:03] Speaker A: Okay. Can you now roll a strength as your huge metal gauntlet, like hand latches on to like the last four inches.
[00:19:13] Speaker D: It's another 18.
[00:19:16] Speaker A: And now you are slowly reeling yourself out. I mean, you barely caught a little bit of this rope because in this space between the stars, you know, there is no tension. It's sort of whirling around and snake like. But the moment you've latched onto it, you can tell where it pulls back into the material plane.
[00:19:39] Speaker D: Okay, am I going to start heaving myself out?
[00:19:43] Speaker A: How far can you make it? Let's see. I would say you have used barely any of your action to reach the strut between the pontoon. I mean, you have your complete movement. So let's see what happens. Can you roll a fateful D4?
[00:19:58] Speaker D: They have 40ft of movement.
[00:20:02] Speaker A: So you'll definitely make it out if luck is in.
[00:20:05] Speaker D: Oh, it's a four.
[00:20:07] Speaker A: Fantastic. Kaitoa, you are emerging hand over hand from the darkness.
[00:20:12] Speaker D: Sweet. I think I take a hit for leaving.
[00:20:19] Speaker E: End your turn if you end your turn in the darkness.
[00:20:21] Speaker D: Yeah. Okay.
[00:20:22] Speaker E: 2D6. But if you escape it, then you're fine.
[00:20:26] Speaker D: I think I'd climb the rope right out where's he's a rope tied to.
[00:20:32] Speaker A: Okay, so you climb the rope all the way. So peekaboo. There is the metal head of Kaitoa.
[00:20:38] Speaker F: What?
[00:20:38] Speaker C: Like right? Yeah, like there. Right.
[00:20:41] Speaker A: There you go.
[00:20:42] Speaker D: Ah, there we go.
I'd like to get out on top.
[00:20:45] Speaker A: Of the bridge, you have rejoined the party, Kaito. And ooh, the marks on your armor and especially your sinewy, wooden muscular layer are frightful. Is there anything else in your move interaction?
[00:21:04] Speaker D: I fallen on all fours and do like a big wet dog shake.
[00:21:11] Speaker A: That's great.
And who's up next? Beleg? Uh, you would probably now be thinking primarily about yourself. Survival is on your mind, my friend.
[00:21:26] Speaker E: Um, yeah. So all I want to do now is get the heck out of here and raise my specter.
Is so Zozo is there.
And are you poke just like perched on the edge there?
[00:21:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:51] Speaker E: If I just float down to you, we might be able to do a little snatch and grab.
[00:21:58] Speaker C: Sure.
[00:21:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:21:59] Speaker E: That would earn my trust real fast.
Yeah, there's nothing that I can see that I could grab onto a rubber. Can I do a little perception check and see if there's anything or gosh.
[00:22:12] Speaker A: You want to roll perception? Beleg Dagar, half elf. I'll beg you to.
[00:22:20] Speaker E: Oh, it's classic. That's an eight.
[00:22:23] Speaker A: Okay, your fingernails are now bloody as you have struggled for sort of one more moment to see, like, could I find purchase between the mason. No. What do you shout up there? Snatch and grab.
[00:22:41] Speaker E: The old snatch and grab.
[00:22:46] Speaker A: And Belik, is there anything else you would do in this moment? Anything to check for? You have fallen in the water, buddy. You just avoided smashing your head.
Anything else in this moment?
Prepare a spell launch. A spell.
[00:23:02] Speaker E: You think I still have spell slots?
[00:23:04] Speaker A: Oh, that's so quaint.
[00:23:09] Speaker E: No, like I said, the only thing I want to do is take care of that specter, but. Okay, I want to. Yeah. Reach up to Zozo and hope he. And yell at him until at least I get his attention.
[00:23:23] Speaker A: Okay, the camera work is impressive. Who shot this film? And you see, the camera is now going between below the water and slightly above the water. And Bellak, you're using most of your movement to get swept along here. And old foot now taps you on the shoulder. Rook, anything from your weapons caddy?
[00:23:44] Speaker C: Well, I've got my Bergen's blade, and we'll take Machete. Right.
[00:23:49] Speaker A: I suggested those and I'm sticking with my cool. And now we see if he uses his legendary action to monologue.
[00:24:01] Speaker B: Fuck.
[00:24:05] Speaker E: You want it so bad, Ron?
[00:24:07] Speaker A: So bad.
[00:24:09] Speaker C: Can I suggest to him that he should pull out my bow and arm himself?
[00:24:17] Speaker A: Oh, repaired. Whoa. That'll have a twang. Okay, so he's. You're asking him to sheath jewel shortswords and you'd like him to be a little Artillery piece on your back.
[00:24:29] Speaker C: Yeah, because I've got my swords up front, so if he can artillery on the back, we'll be a fucking duo over here.
[00:24:38] Speaker A: Okay? And Rook, it is now your turn. You know you're by no means in any sort of melee fight, so I suppose that was a good call to tell your caddy, in fact to turn to the medium to long range here. Steve, just in front of you, Kaitoa has popped up just behind you. What's up?
[00:24:58] Speaker C: I think what I'm gonna do is I'm actually gonna take my movement and I'm going to move to the other side of the bridge here to take up the other flank. Because I see Kaitoa pop up behind me and Steve gotta make a the front corner over there. So I'm going to move over to this corner of the bridge, kind of the south side of the bridge, and survey how many people have gathered around the south end of the bridge there.
[00:25:35] Speaker A: Rob, you're looking at crowds of dozens of people.
A thin trail of people coming up the street.
[00:25:47] Speaker C: And they're just. From what I can decipher, they're just regular old pulb citizens.
[00:25:54] Speaker A: Oh, can you roll a perception?
[00:25:56] Speaker E: The old plebeian Polbians, the Pulbians.
[00:26:01] Speaker C: Ooh, I rolled a bell egg perception.
[00:26:08] Speaker A: And Rook, as you sort of stand there a bit too long, scanning the crowd that is seeing what's happening, you have been perceived by the crowd.
[00:26:21] Speaker C: Yeah, I didn't perceive much. I only had a four.
I'm just gonna. As they're perceiving me, just address them and say it is me, your new quartermaster. Do not come any further forward than where you are at now. We are dealing with some a situation here and we'll have it cleaned up in no time.
Then I'll turn back.
[00:26:49] Speaker A: Can you roll a persuasion? And you are holding Bergen's blade, which always throws that +2 on to charisma based things.
[00:27:02] Speaker C: Charisma and persuasion. That's gonna be a 19.
[00:27:10] Speaker A: Oh yeah. Everybody takes note of your authority, rook, and you have held the crowd at bay. They're not dispersing, my friend.
[00:27:20] Speaker C: After that, I'll take note of that and turn back towards looking at the river and down and seeing what the situation is there. And I'm gonna tell my caddy to keep an eye on the crowd and anybody that he sees that might be suspicious and to let me know if he sees anything.
[00:27:41] Speaker A: Okay, that's your command to your caddy.
[00:27:44] Speaker C: Mm.
[00:27:46] Speaker A: Okay. Could I very quickly meet you in the side channel? Ooh, sidebar and then we're gonna swoop back into Eric. Dr. Zozo.
[00:28:01] Speaker G: You have done well, orc son.
[00:28:04] Speaker C: Oh, who's this?
Am I hearing this or is it in my head?
[00:28:09] Speaker G: I've always been in your head. A kuruk boonslay. You have done well.
[00:28:18] Speaker B: This.
[00:28:18] Speaker C: Papa. Papa.
[00:28:21] Speaker G: I am the orc father Saarn.
[00:28:25] Speaker A: Oh.
[00:28:27] Speaker C: You're the one who's behind a lot of my powers here. And different dark intuitions.
[00:28:36] Speaker G: Your detect thoughts has allowed us to communicate at will. You had a birthday. Your 16th. The passing of boyhood to org manhood.
[00:28:53] Speaker C: I did.
[00:28:55] Speaker G: Your powers progress and develop.
Your allies are fierce and strong.
Are you their leader?
[00:29:07] Speaker C: I like to think that I am somewhat. But we kind of lead by committee. We're all from different corners, but I've definitely taken the leadership role when it comes to the town that we are currently occupying.
[00:29:21] Speaker G: You are wise and measured in your speech, Orc sun.
Continue, but be careful what lies beneath your feet.
[00:29:34] Speaker A: And I'll meet you back in the main channel.
[00:29:37] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:29:40] Speaker E: Yeah. I'm curious to see what happens at the end of their turn.
Especially with what Rob alluded to there being three different types.
[00:29:49] Speaker A: Zozo, as you start your move and you have quite a good view of all of the proceedings here you see the half orc momentarily paused. And now it is your move.
[00:30:01] Speaker C: Can I just be at the ready? Yes. That's the last thing I want to do.
[00:30:05] Speaker A: Yes, I've assumed that. Sort of like Steve. I'm allowing everybody to hold their. Their extra attack in reserve and everybody is in position as the outflow. Who knows what's going to happen next?
[00:30:20] Speaker F: Okay, well, I'm gonna swoop down and try to scoop up belly.
[00:30:25] Speaker A: And would you like to roll? I gave you a choice. Well, we're gonna. It's gonna involve strength somewhere because you said you are a. A diminutive aerial being. You're sort of like dwarf sized and dwarf wit.
[00:30:40] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:30:41] Speaker A: And beleg. You're not a small guy. You're like five'eleven also have been drained.
[00:30:47] Speaker E: Only 165 though.
[00:30:49] Speaker A: Soggy bottom.
[00:30:51] Speaker E: I. I have. I have taken on water weight.
[00:30:54] Speaker A: Okay. Let's roll the strength right off the bat. But what I'll allow you to do is add another skill with advantage to sort of leverage. Another skill you'd like to use.
[00:31:07] Speaker F: Hmm.
Not sure what makes sense here.
[00:31:13] Speaker A: Athletics, acrobatics. Could be. When I think of the. What do we call. What is this move? The snatching.
[00:31:19] Speaker E: The snatch grab.
[00:31:20] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:21] Speaker F: Okay.
[00:31:21] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:31:22] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:31:23] Speaker F: So am I doing two rolls yes.
[00:31:25] Speaker A: Zozo, in your mind, you think snatch and grab. You think, is that two actions? Is that two rolls?
[00:31:33] Speaker E: Two rolls, one snatch up?
[00:31:35] Speaker A: Absolutely. The snatch is going to be this one of your choice. I think acrobatics or dexterity or something based.
[00:31:43] Speaker F: Yeah, I think acro makes sense.
[00:31:45] Speaker A: Roll it up and then the other one to grab will be strength.
[00:31:49] Speaker F: Okay, So I got 18 for the acrobatics snatch.
[00:31:54] Speaker A: And they have latched on to you Bellic. And the grab roll.
[00:31:58] Speaker F: Grab roll is 14.
[00:32:02] Speaker A: Got anything to add to that grab roll?
[00:32:06] Speaker F: Nope.
I rolled a 15. Minus one because my strength is minus one.
[00:32:12] Speaker E: Makes sense.
[00:32:13] Speaker A: Do you have any inspiration banked from last time?
[00:32:18] Speaker F: Yes, I do.
So I can, I will use my inspiration.
[00:32:25] Speaker A: Silence.
[00:32:27] Speaker E: Thanks, buddy.
[00:32:28] Speaker F: Oh, that one was a three.
[00:32:32] Speaker A: Oh, boy.
[00:32:34] Speaker E: Is there anything like can, can anybody lend? Can I grab on?
[00:32:40] Speaker A: Okay, Feleg, you are going to lend the help. Action. This was your idea. You have communicated to Dr. Zozo. The snatch and grab is being performed, but the grab. What are you going to do to help?
[00:32:56] Speaker E: I'm going to reach up. How much do you weigh, Zozo?
You're probably a bit wavy, aren't you?
[00:33:05] Speaker D: Yeah, probably.
[00:33:06] Speaker F: I got hollow bones.
[00:33:07] Speaker E: So the only thing I could do would be to, to like, frog leg and try and propel myself up a little bit.
[00:33:16] Speaker D: Just kick your little legs.
[00:33:19] Speaker E: They, they are long. They're, they're not Braden legs. They are bell egg legs. They're graceful and lean, not little bow legs.
[00:33:28] Speaker A: Beleg. I am going to definitely, you know, allow this to happen.
But, Zozo, you have not successfully flown Beleg out of the water.
[00:33:40] Speaker F: Okay, so I, I, I'm able to grab on, though.
[00:33:44] Speaker A: Potentially the last thing you could do.
[00:33:48] Speaker F: Okay, grab on tight.
[00:33:51] Speaker E: If he's grabbing on or she's grabbing on, we're holding on.
[00:33:55] Speaker A: Yep. Super. Precariously.
[00:33:57] Speaker E: Everything to keep as little my body in the water as humanly possible.
[00:34:00] Speaker A: Precarious.
[00:34:00] Speaker E: Keep the resistance down.
[00:34:02] Speaker F: Yeah, I think that's, that's all I'll do.
[00:34:06] Speaker A: And now what is that sound?
The slurping the hunger of Hadar Beleg. Can you roll damaged ice? Three groups. Imagine there's three things in there that have to be treated differently.
[00:34:22] Speaker E: Yeah. Okay, so roll three different sets again.
[00:34:24] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:34:27] Speaker D: Like we're killing something nice.
[00:34:31] Speaker E: Yeah. I don't know.
7 for the first group, 10 for the second group.
[00:34:41] Speaker D: Can you turn it off?
[00:34:43] Speaker E: 8 for the third group. I can turn it off, but what if the boss is in there?
[00:34:49] Speaker D: What if there's, like, women and children in there?
[00:34:53] Speaker A: Oh. Or Leah.
[00:34:54] Speaker C: Small sacrifice.
[00:34:55] Speaker B: That'd be awesome. If Bella killed Leah, I would be.
[00:34:58] Speaker A: Yeah. She is like kidnapped. So funny.
[00:35:02] Speaker D: Just that scratching was her clawing at the roof of the kidney.
[00:35:08] Speaker A: You do hear the sound of bodies.
[00:35:14] Speaker D: Hitting the flow, sort of popping out.
[00:35:18] Speaker A: Of the water, you know. Their buoyant form indicates they have been half molested and mangled and marinating in the tendrils of hadar. It is hideous to behold. And it's similar to the last two cobalt bodies that came out. Seem to be too distinct sets of armor and two distinct little tribes here.
And then. Can everybody roll perception?
[00:35:46] Speaker D: No.
[00:35:50] Speaker E: Whoa.
That's a 19 for belly.
It's his first big perception roll since his first ever perception roll.
[00:36:00] Speaker D: Yeah.
I got a nine.
[00:36:04] Speaker C: Non natty.
[00:36:04] Speaker B: 2022 for Steve.
[00:36:10] Speaker A: Shattering it. Was that everybody? Yeah.
[00:36:14] Speaker D: Kaito got a nine. I don't know if you heard that.
[00:36:17] Speaker A: Okay. I would like the party to think. What did each one of the party do?
To pick out that faint rattling sound and then to realize that there is an invisible creature that has escaped from beneath the bridge.
[00:36:43] Speaker E: Invisible?
[00:36:44] Speaker A: Oh, geez. Holding on to Beleg's lower body.
[00:36:51] Speaker E: Well, I know what the fuck I did. To realize it was there.
[00:36:57] Speaker A: But you have perceived a creature. What have you done to identify this as a group?
[00:37:06] Speaker F: All right.
[00:37:08] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:37:08] Speaker B: So we're all beginning to notice that there's this invisible thing that's attached to bow leg.
[00:37:13] Speaker E: Sounds like it.
[00:37:14] Speaker C: Yes. Yeah.
[00:37:16] Speaker D: Yeah. Beleg's got like.
[00:37:18] Speaker E: I definitely, as soon as I felt it would have yelled out to you guys.
[00:37:24] Speaker D: Yeah, it's like. It's like a turd hanging from your ass that won't let go into the. The toilet of this river.
[00:37:33] Speaker E: That's one analogy.
[00:37:38] Speaker C: I feel like we all heard that noise, right? So.
[00:37:42] Speaker E: Yeah, the rattling.
[00:37:43] Speaker C: We heard that noise. Yeah, the rattle. And then shortly after we heard we hear Bele yell over to us.
Right?
[00:37:51] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:37:53] Speaker C: I mean, I'm further away than you, so I won't be able to probably perceive it as well.
[00:37:59] Speaker D: But is rattling.
[00:38:04] Speaker B: It's only holding on to you. It isn't doing damage to you yet.
[00:38:08] Speaker E: That's. I. I think. I don't know.
You guys hearing that something had a hold of me was the first time I heard it as well.
[00:38:18] Speaker D: I assume that's the rattling.
[00:38:20] Speaker E: Yeah, I would assume that as well.
Maybe this hunger of Hadar wasn't a waste of a spell.
[00:38:27] Speaker D: So maybe, maybe, just maybe some women and children.
[00:38:32] Speaker C: Small sacrifice, Caleb. Small sacrifice. It's true.
[00:38:38] Speaker D: What if you're dangling and I run up beside you and Chris blast cold into the water.
[00:38:46] Speaker E: No.
[00:38:48] Speaker D: And try and freeze your bum.
[00:38:49] Speaker E: Oh, I. I thought we couldn't get the kriz blast going. I thought the aarakocra. I thought Eric's attempts failed.
[00:38:56] Speaker D: No, it works. Did it? Yep.
[00:39:01] Speaker E: Diggity down.
[00:39:03] Speaker D: Yep.
[00:39:04] Speaker B: Loser. The bum.
[00:39:06] Speaker E: Yeah. Wet bum. Frozen bum.
[00:39:09] Speaker D: Frozen bum.
[00:39:11] Speaker E: I'm gonna try and fight it off. I just.
[00:39:15] Speaker D: Just you kicking at it.
[00:39:20] Speaker E: I'm just looking at my cantrips right now. I can like, if it's on my foot, I can repelling blast it and try and knock it away.
[00:39:28] Speaker D: But don't we want to like kill it and know what it is instead of like blow it down river?
[00:39:34] Speaker E: Yeah. You want to freeze it to me.
[00:39:40] Speaker D: If we can get it out of the water. But yeah.
[00:39:44] Speaker E: I think the best thing you. If it's got a hold of me, the best thing you could do would be to run to Zozo and try and help her grab me out if it's gonna hold on.
[00:39:57] Speaker D: What if I just tie a rope to a bolt and heavy crossbow? It.
[00:40:04] Speaker E: Sure.
[00:40:07] Speaker D: Or I just jump in the water and swing an axe at it.
Also works because that's another thing I do.
[00:40:17] Speaker E: Yeah. I'm just going to try and get out.
[00:40:18] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:40:19] Speaker E: I think the water.
[00:40:20] Speaker D: We should try and get you out and then deal with it.
[00:40:22] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:40:23] Speaker D: Because there is a chance that it could be pull you in.
[00:40:28] Speaker E: Yeah. I'm. I'm just focusing on getting the out of it. And if it's committed to holding on to me, then we drag it onto the land. It's using magic, invisibility. So I got no clue what it is.
[00:40:40] Speaker D: Do we have anything that like negates magic or would make it visible?
[00:40:44] Speaker E: No, I don't. I don't have fairy fire.
[00:40:50] Speaker B: I don't really have much that can help me. Again, invisible.
[00:40:55] Speaker D: Well, I'm just trying to think if there's anything we can do to mark it. Oh, what about the. The pickaxe of graffiti?
[00:41:04] Speaker B: Oh, spray the out of it.
[00:41:06] Speaker D: If I hit it with it, would it not leave a mark on it? That would just be like a mark floating around. We can't see it, but we can see the mark.
[00:41:16] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:41:16] Speaker C: I can also do just like my arcana thing on it too. I can decipher.
[00:41:22] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:41:23] Speaker C: What it is magic it's using and stuff.
[00:41:25] Speaker D: I'm gonna, I'm gonna try and hit it with the. The old pickaxe and see if we can mark it.
[00:41:32] Speaker E: Oh, what'd I miss?
[00:41:34] Speaker D: I was thinking if I hit it with the graffiti pickaxe I might be able to mark it. And then we'll just see this, like, color streak moving around.
[00:41:43] Speaker E: Oh, that's an interesting.
[00:41:45] Speaker D: That's.
[00:41:46] Speaker E: That's some inspiration worthy, I think. Yeah, yeah.
[00:41:49] Speaker D: I'm gonna.
[00:41:50] Speaker A: While.
[00:41:50] Speaker D: While zozo's got you, before we pull you out, I'm just gonna like. Yeah. Lean down and just like take a swipe at your feet almost and try and hit this thing. I don't know what the attack of that graffiti pickaxe was.
[00:42:07] Speaker E: Gotta write this down, man.
[00:42:09] Speaker D: I don't think I was ever taught. Hold it. I think it was just like, here's a graffiti pickaxe.
[00:42:15] Speaker E: Yeah, it would have been on the. The sheet, actually. Maybe I have it.
[00:42:18] Speaker D: I think I have majorly sweet items missed. I just don't know if it's on that one.
[00:42:25] Speaker E: Check it out.
[00:42:28] Speaker B: List of weak magic items.
[00:42:30] Speaker D: Yeah, it might be on that one. Yeah. It's not the majorly sweet.
[00:42:34] Speaker B: The artist adds.
[00:42:36] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:42:37] Speaker B: The bear may use this weapon to make colored marks on any surface. The marks will fade away in 24 hours.
[00:42:44] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:42:45] Speaker D: That's all it says, right?
[00:42:46] Speaker E: Yep.
[00:42:47] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:42:47] Speaker E: Yeah.
[00:42:48] Speaker D: I didn't think there was any damage associated with it, but it would be an improvised weapon. So it would hit with that.
[00:42:54] Speaker B: Well, I imagine it's a. It's an axe of some.
[00:42:57] Speaker E: Yeah, it would have axe like properties.
[00:43:07] Speaker D: Yeah. How are we doing this?
[00:43:08] Speaker C: Turn to look.
[00:43:12] Speaker E: Something's got my leg.
[00:43:14] Speaker C: I would say we heard the rattle and then shortly after hear Beleg yell. So we all look to see what belleg's where Beleg is and what's going on.
[00:43:26] Speaker D: Yeah, I imagine. And when I was on the boat, I heard that rattle really closely. And then I could hear as I climbed out, it moved downriver.
[00:43:36] Speaker C: And I was gonna say, since I hear him yell and I can't see anything, I'm gonna assume it's something magical and do an arcana check.
[00:43:46] Speaker A: Rook. Arcane analysis. Okay. Next.
[00:43:50] Speaker F: I think I probably noticed it by the weight of him.
I. I think, you know, I have a pretty good idea of how fat he is. Even wet. And it seems a lot heavier.
[00:44:02] Speaker E: My boy, Tick.
[00:44:06] Speaker A: Brilliant analysis of the weight of your cargo.
[00:44:10] Speaker D: The weight of love.
[00:44:14] Speaker A: Good episode title.
[00:44:17] Speaker B: Escargot. My cargo.
[00:44:19] Speaker A: Div.
[00:44:20] Speaker D: Look at that. Escargot.
[00:44:23] Speaker B: So I'm perched up on the bridge.
I guess I'm seeing this unfold as the attempt is being made.
And I imagine by the response to being picked up by the aarakocra. I can see that he is a laden. A coconut Laden swallow.
Coconut laden swallow.
[00:44:53] Speaker A: You are using your eyeball balls.
Yeah. Yeah.
[00:44:57] Speaker B: Steve's okay. He's pretty good at that.
[00:44:59] Speaker A: So you will. Steve, you will have a great bead then. And you and Rook and Kaito on the bridge will have a great angle of this. Of course. But Zozo and Beleg do not. Water droplets dripping out of thin air beneath Beleg. As Zozo, with a huge burst of strength, is, you know, now leveraging herself up. Finally, we have Kahtoa. Rook, Eric, Beleg. It's obvious, right?
[00:45:30] Speaker C: You.
[00:45:31] Speaker D: You.
[00:45:31] Speaker A: It's just. It's finally now the sensation. Realizing that. What did you scream?
[00:45:37] Speaker E: Something's got my leg.
That is brilliance. Sheer brilliance.
[00:45:45] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:45:46] Speaker D: Bellag inspiring words.
[00:45:48] Speaker A: I will award you inspiration.
[00:45:52] Speaker D: Something's got my leg.
[00:45:56] Speaker A: And Rook, can you roll an arcana check on this magical form I've emerged?
[00:46:02] Speaker C: Yes, sir.
[00:46:04] Speaker A: And Steve, can you roll perception with advantage on this form?
[00:46:10] Speaker C: That's a 23.
[00:46:14] Speaker A: You have identified a hostile magic user within your radii.
[00:46:22] Speaker B: Steve has a 27.
[00:46:25] Speaker A: The droplets. You can see, Steve. Like your eyesight is so good. You can see the form by its absence. And it appears to be a tiny. Go bald person. But they must be wearing some sort of giant headdress.
[00:46:42] Speaker C: I'm gonna yell to the guys. Something magical. It's got Belle Egg's leg.
[00:46:48] Speaker E: You see a tiny little kobold. Little magical kobold.
[00:46:52] Speaker C: I can't see anything. I just know something magical is on you.
[00:46:56] Speaker B: And these guys are these. Are they hovering above water? Yes.
If I was, let's say, to fire a dagger at what I think is whatever is holding on to Beleg's leg. Will this thing drop into the water?
[00:47:11] Speaker A: Yes, sure. If, you know, if you shot this thing, it would quickly be swept away because it has barely exited the waters. So that's a fair assumption.
[00:47:24] Speaker B: I don't really want to do that just yet.
[00:47:28] Speaker D: Encounter's over. It fell in the water. Goodbye.
[00:47:30] Speaker A: It's gone.
[00:47:33] Speaker D: Wouldn't it be nice?
[00:47:36] Speaker B: Okay, well, Zozo, fly over the. Fly over the. The side of the river. Get over. Get over ground.
[00:47:48] Speaker A: I'm trying.
We are still in initiative. And. And you know, so, Steve, it's. It's essentially you, then me, and then Kaitoa, and then the Beleg Oldfoot Rook connection. And then the flying Zozo. And then what I would consider to be. What is happening to that bridge. As Hadar begins to consume the masonry of the bridge, it is now splitting apart in the middle. God. You know that part where it was kind of pooling at your feet.
Anybody on the bridge Roll A dexterity saving throw.
[00:48:31] Speaker D: Now.
[00:48:33] Speaker A: Right now.
[00:48:36] Speaker D: I mean now that's more like it.
[00:48:40] Speaker C: 21.
[00:48:42] Speaker A: Rook, you are off like a flash.
[00:48:45] Speaker D: 17.
[00:48:47] Speaker A: Kaitoa, you are off like a flash.
[00:48:50] Speaker C: Steve got 19, I think.
[00:48:52] Speaker B: Yeah, I got 19.
[00:48:53] Speaker A: Perfect. So it's still. It's still your move. But now the bridge is essentially an open draw Bridge.
[00:49:00] Speaker D: Grapple Hook the boat again.
[00:49:02] Speaker C: Man. I'm going for ramen tomorrow. Seriously.
[00:49:05] Speaker A: I get so hungry when he casts a dar.
[00:49:07] Speaker C: It's criminal every day after dnd Ramen.
[00:49:13] Speaker B: Hey Rob. Would it be a long shot for me to unhook the grappling hook from the boat and swing it at where I think this thing is? Hank from Bellic.
[00:49:24] Speaker D: Take it with. But the boat's got the metal in.
[00:49:26] Speaker A: It to aid your flailing party members. Yeah. It'll take a full action to rescue your grappling hook. It'll take a minor action to unsheath some rope or an interaction to tell somebody else to throw you something.
[00:49:43] Speaker D: Save the boat.
[00:49:45] Speaker A: Steve. In this moment, as you hesitate, you begin to hear that slurping. You're still awfully close to the sphere and it seems to be expanding out of your control, Bellig. It has now increased by about 5ft in diameter. What is happening?
[00:50:05] Speaker B: Steve is gonna make space, that's for sure.
I'm gonna direct Stolas to see in his starry eyed power if he can get a bead on a better look at this creature.
[00:50:22] Speaker A: Not perception.
Insight.
Arcana.
[00:50:28] Speaker B: No. I have nothing to do with intelligence.
[00:50:32] Speaker A: Wisdom.
[00:50:34] Speaker B: Yeah, an insight.
[00:50:36] Speaker A: We've agreed that you often don't you communicate with him? Sometimes with wisdom. Is that we decided.
[00:50:43] Speaker B: Yeah. So wisdom check.
[00:50:45] Speaker A: Mm. Stolas.
[00:50:48] Speaker B: All right. Let's do it.
[00:50:50] Speaker A: Stolas. Oh, that's an at 20.
Well, I suppose Stolas is immediately piercing through the magical veil of obfuscation here.
Stolas. Vision in color. Technicolor. And this is a kobold Wyrm priest.
[00:51:22] Speaker B: Worm priest.
[00:51:24] Speaker A: He would relay to you this information as well. Steve. This fellow has several second level slots at his disposal. This fellow has up to six first level spells ready. And Stolas would also know that this creature has the ability to silence and hold people in place.
You've learned all of this knowledge flows. You are drinking from the information. The astral plane.
[00:52:01] Speaker F: I think I'm the second most useful owl here.
[00:52:08] Speaker A: Kaitoa.
Now, as the bridge disappears beneath you, even as you guys retreat away from the canal bridge, all of the masonry disappears.
Hadar expands another 5ft in diameter. And Kaitoa, you're up.
[00:52:28] Speaker D: Can I see how far Beleg is out of the water and from the railing?
[00:52:34] Speaker A: Oh, absolutely. He's always been here, flailing as he is, starting to pull at the fine robes and scarves around Dr. Zozo Brightfeather. But the water whips around at Beleg's feet regardless, and at this invisible creature, Belloc's feet.
[00:52:55] Speaker D: How far from the railing are Belloc's feet?
[00:52:57] Speaker A: Oh, Bella. Well, seven feet.
[00:53:00] Speaker D: Okay, so this is gonna be a long shot here, but I gotta go for it. I'm going to move. What do we got here? 15ft beside them to the edge of the rail.
I'm gonna try and hop the rail.
[00:53:19] Speaker E: And dangle down the old dangle down.
[00:53:23] Speaker D: And I'm gonna pull out my graffiti axe Tomo. What was it called?
[00:53:33] Speaker E: The artist ads.
[00:53:34] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, look at everybody chiming in on the weapon that's never been used.
[00:53:39] Speaker D: And I'm gonna try and swing below Beleg's feet, and I'm gonna try and hit this thing and mark it with a colorful stripe and see if it shows.
[00:53:52] Speaker A: So I suppose what would you like to roll? It's not really against.
AC is a good descriptor of your ability to hit something.
[00:54:00] Speaker B: So.
[00:54:00] Speaker A: You know what? Fuck it. Let's roll on ac.
[00:54:03] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:54:04] Speaker A: With the artists ads.
[00:54:06] Speaker D: So just roll a normal D20 plus.
[00:54:09] Speaker A: But. Yeah, but you have several. You. Are you raging? Anything you want to add to this? I mean, you want to mark this thing?
[00:54:15] Speaker D: No, I'm not gonna. I'm. I'm gonna Reckless attack.
[00:54:20] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:54:21] Speaker D: Oh, I want my advantage.
[00:54:23] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:54:24] Speaker D: To strength.
So I want the advantage. I don't care about disadvantage. I just want to make sure this thing hits even if I miss it.
[00:54:33] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[00:54:34] Speaker D: What do I got? I got 21 and. Ooh, 20. What is that? 24 for attack.
[00:54:44] Speaker A: Can you roll damage on that artist ads?
[00:54:49] Speaker D: Yeah, and I. The weapon description didn't say anything about what it would do for damage.
[00:54:56] Speaker A: It's a Warhammer 1D10.
[00:54:58] Speaker D: Oh, one D10. Okay. Oh, take the D10. I was thinking it would be an ax of some sort, but it 1d10 plus. What do I got? I got an 11 to damage an 8 plus 3.
[00:55:15] Speaker A: Oh, boy.
[00:55:17] Speaker D: And hopefully it leaves a color mark some good.
[00:55:20] Speaker A: It does leave a color mark.
[00:55:23] Speaker D: Can I see it?
Or does it also become invisible?
[00:55:26] Speaker A: What color do you think you have dealt with this ads?
[00:55:31] Speaker D: The color of blood.
I'm gonna go with a really flamboyant pink.
[00:55:38] Speaker A: Oh, sweet. There is an explosion of pink on the body of clearly, the form latched on to bellic here. And then an explosion of viscera and entrails in green and black and pink all against the wall right at the water level. So, of course, half of it is sprayed up against the wall. And beleg you are sprayed.
It is all up your front and up your tunic.
And that is where we will have to leave you until the next time on Dungeons and Blackguards.
[00:57:34] Speaker E: Cool, man. I'm. I'm stoked that I rolled double ones for you.
[00:57:39] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:57:39] Speaker E: That's awesome. That's crazy.
[00:57:43] Speaker D: I'm okay with that.
[00:57:44] Speaker E: Yes.
[00:57:44] Speaker C: Yeah, that was awesome.
[00:57:46] Speaker E: It is. No, double ones is. It's only one in 36 chance, isn't it? There are only 36 possible outcomes.
Still cool, though.
